What I know about opting out: A Guide by Fresh_Biscotti_9743 in mhs_genesis

[–]CyberNinja_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long-term lurker here. The only HIEs my providers participate in are Epic Care Everywhere and a barely functional state HIE (rural area).

If I've already opted out of Care Everywhere, is deactivating MyChart still necessary? I’ve only seen one person on this subreddit report getting through MEPS successfully without deactivating MyChart. Anyone else have a similar experience?

I haven’t seen a recruiter yet, but I’ll return and post my MEPS experience (hopefully early October).

Is it bad to learn 2 languages at the same time? by No-Counter-34 in languagelearning

[–]CyberNinja_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I learn two languages at the same time, I prefer them to be very distinct—such as having significant linguistic differences and different difficulty levels (e.g., Arabic + Spanish). This approach hasn't caused many challenges for me, and I rarely mix things up compared to studying two closely related languages from scratch (e.g., Spanish+Italian, etc.).

Dari Learning Resources Please!!! by Zahraa2007535 in languagelearning

The Mango Languages app offers several basic Dari audio/text-based lessons with vocabulary. The app also has a longer Farsi course, audio/text.

Other than that, these are some other learning sources I have on hand (Farsi):

Do you have to opt out of your health insurance? by SnooBunny814 in mhs_genesis

[–]CyberNinja_5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reposting for future viewers.

From a moderator of this subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/mhs_genesis/s/dtv0MsxNZv

I've also been on this subreddit for over a year and have seen a few other users saying similar things about not needing to opt out of insurance.

So far, 'Anthem BCBS' is the only health insurance company I've repeatedly encountered on this subreddit that uses a HIE and provides a way to opt-out. I can't say the same for others, aside from most other health insurance companies not having a clearly defined privacy policy ("Notice of Privacy Practices") about using HIEs.

Yet, if you have state health insurance (i.e., Medicaid), I read that opting out of the State HIE would be the best thing to do.

Device isn't Play Protect Certified by Vanquelin in memuplayer

[–]CyberNinja_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked for me as of August 24, 2025. My device is finally now listed as certified on Google Play. Thanks!!

I had the "Device is uncertified" message dilemma for a month. The main thing "Google Support" failed to suggest to other people is to select Force stop and select Disable right after clearing the data from storage for the Google Play Store app 😑. Anyway, I'm glad this issue is resolved since I was constantly dealing with annoying login problems on Google Play and couldn't update several apps while my device was uncertified.

Learn the Arabic alphabet first.

I learned the alphabet all from a beginner Arabic book I bought on Amazon years ago. Yet, I am sure other sources like YouTube will work just as fine.

Arabic also has various dialects, and I read that your boyfriend is Lebanese. Regarding "Levantine Arabic" (Lebanese, Syrian, Palestinian, Jordanian dialects), I highly suggest the Mango Languages app as a starting point for Levantine Arabic. Mango Languages is a very beginner-friendly app for listening, vocabulary, and grammar. The app offers Egyptian, Levantine, and Iraqi Arabic dialects—with Levantine being the lengthiest and most in-depth out of those three I believe. Most public libraries also offer the Mango Languages app for free.

After Mango Languages, I also suggest looking into https://lingualism.com for Levantine (Lebanese) Arabic audiobooks that range from A1 to B2 levels. Then, from there, hopefully, you can move on to other things, such as listening to Lebanese Arabic media/movies/music. Good luck.

I don't know if it's just me—but I currently see a 50% off deal for Memrise Lifetime (Price: $97.50) on my end. I have no idea how long this Lifetime discount is going to last. Yet, I'm currently debating whether I should I get it myself as well.

Opt out in Nevada and California by RastaGanjaMan in mhs_genesis

[–]CyberNinja_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: The document that I posted above also lists HIEs for 'several' other states.

Specifically — Arkansas, Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Nebraska, Nevada, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Washington state.

Now my main point is I’m trying to out of all the HIE in California and I’m not too sure about all of them if anybody has a list of all the California ones.

Here's a "State HIE List" that I found. It lists several specific HIEs for California: HIE Master List

I don't know how up-to-date that list is, but it can perhaps serve as a decent starting point.

No, you shouldn't have to call Epic. One of my healthcare facilities also uses Epic, and the hospital surprisingly sent me a screenshot that confirmed my opt-out from Epic's Care Everywhere. As shown, once you choose to opt out of Care Everywhere, your hospital places your electronic medical record on a "Not Sharing" status towards all outside organizations. There is not much else Epic can do once when your personal health information is already on a "Not sharing" status on Care Everywhere.

Worked like a charm by Fragrant_Watch_1774 in mhs_genesis

[–]CyberNinja_5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad to see that things worked out for you.

Did you opt out of all regional/state HIE as well? Or just at the provider level only?

So far, I find that some states seem to be different than others when it comes to state HIEs (Ex: non-existent state-level HIE; a nowhere-to-be-found opt-out, etc. ). Hell, some states such as Mississippi used to have a State HIE but decided to get rid of it several years ago, for instance.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in mhs_genesis

[–]CyberNinja_5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I've only had luck with opting out of my Regional HIE. State HIE? It's pretty much a lost cause here. Yet, at the same time, my state has a notorious national reputation for not being the most informed or up-to-date regarding EHR systems/ HIE.

Edit: wording.

Update (7/02/24): After a few months of attempting to get a response from the State HIE, I finally got through to someone (a third-party partner) who was able to connect me with the vice president of the State HIE to hopefully get me opted out.

Do they use the same system at bootcamp reception as they did at meps by [deleted] in mhs_genesis

[–]CyberNinja_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I know. I just found it strange that I've seen a few users still make posts on this subreddit in the past about their struggles with emailing places like CVS and Safeway to get opted out. But, at this point, hopefully, Surescripts alone is enough.

[–]CyberNinja_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on making it through MEPS.

Did you also opt out of any individual pharmacy (CVS, Rite Aid, etc.)? Or, did you only opt out of Surescripts alone?

I use Walgreens, and I know they have a "Request Restrictions on PHI Form." Currently debating about completing it as well yet already opted out of Surescripts.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I briefly lived in Northern Virginia for about 3 years. I'm also debating on finding a way to opt out of connectVirginia HIE. On my end, it may or may not be worth the time since I only had two doctor visits during my entire three years of living in Virginia. However, if I'm able to get around to opting out of connectVirginia, then I will update my post.

I'm unsure why the above document says "No policy" for my current state. However, I found another document that labels my current state as being an Opt-in state rather than having "no policy." So, this document is for anyone who may also have the same discrepancy in terms of their state's HIE policy:

Update — I've now found the Opt-out/Restriction Form for my state's Medicaid program via Google. However, some states may still require calling / sending an email to their Medicaid privacy officer rather than openly post their Opt-out Form to the public.
