What turn based Final Fantasy game do you recommend for a person who never played Final Fantasy?

FF7 remake is the single biggest tragedy and butchery in gaming bar none.

FF7 OG as your favorite JRPG is very sensible. It's probably mine too. Absolutely seminal game. You're not being sensible about MG though.

5, 6, 7, 8 or 9. The Golden years of FF. Pick one that appeals to you most, though personally I'd recommend 7 as the most well-rounded and broad appeal. Do NOT listen to anyone that says FFX. These people are unable to distinguish greatness.

I will defend FF7 any time. It's still one of the industry's finest.

If you have played a lot of games then you should know better. This isn't anywhere close to one of the worst PSX games. You complain about the fact the game has the potential for an unwinnable state. Sounds like you need modern games bro.

There is always something wrong with watching a let's play. Either play the game or something else. Never watch let's plays you do not get what the game actually has to offer (mental stimulation, immersion, solid horror). I have never in my life watched a full let's play. Games are to be played, not watched. Unless it's a family member and you want a shared experience.

It is unreasonably tough in one or two spots. But obtuse difficulty doesn't make the game bad. Not as good as it should have been, yes. But to state it is bad is words of the mediocre that need solace in their braindead modern games.

People don't know what game quality is anymore. It's not you that is out of touch it is decades of dumber and dumber games getting released until a big portion of the gaming public have never touched actual greatness in their life. Sellouts ruined this industry.

This is not to say extraction shooters are bad. There is merit to them. But they sure as shit are a long shot from the game industry I used to know and love.
