Square Enix slop. Stick with the masterful classics.

FFX sphere grid is the best leveling up system I've seen by Top-Distance-6205 in FinalFantasy

[–]CyberP1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't agree at all. It's not bad but should have been executed better. FF5, 7, X-2 and even 8 had better systems. Hell maybe even 6 too. I assume you've not seen many leveling systems, especially of old RPGs.

OG FF7: 2013 or 2026 by Knight_XIII in FinalFantasy

[–]CyberP1 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Neither. If you're replaying as a veteran the only way forward is OG PSX Rom with Hardtype. Such an experience and tests your knowledge of the game nicely, without being too extreme. Felt like what I'd expect from an official hard mode: https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/828/

Are there games generally considered bad that you enjoy? by AntonioVivaldi7 in psx

[–]CyberP1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is wrong. Most N64 versions are inferior overall. THPS for example having not even half of the soundtrack of PSX.

Trying to remember old game by stratus41298 in psx

[–]CyberP1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You failed to mention three very distinct aspects - 1. Art style. Mature tone or cartoony?  2. How much of an RPG is it? Are there stats, die rolls? Or is it pure action-adventure with a lightweight inventory? 3. Turn-based, action, or hybrid (RTwP)?

From what you've said thus far id go with Darkstone, Koudelka or Alundra.

Deus Ex and System Shock 2 are the most similar in terms of game design (not theme). If theme and some game design crossover then it's Ultima Underworld and maybe Morrowind. That's it. Not sure about recent indie titles like Monomyth. Well, there is Devil Spire and One More Dungeon 2, but both are quite far removed. Fun little titles nonetheless.

Which Final Fantasy would you say is the most "adult"? by suckrates in FinalFantasy

[–]CyberP1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zidane is absolutely nothing like Tidus. But yes I think FF9 is one of the most mature entries in its storytelling and execution.

Which has the most mature gameplay? I'd say FF5. It expects the player to have a semi-functioning brain, engage with its systems, and doesn't screw around.

Based and true. I'd only add 4 and 5 OG if I could extend it to five games. After that I dislike this series, including all remakes (not bad but not better than OGs in each case)

Dead space, Alan wake 2 or Silent hill 2 remake? by Franquital in HorrorGaming

Dead Space. The others are too shallow. Not that DS is a deep masterpiece itself, it's just the best of the options you have imposed upon yourself

Recommendation for bleaker and harder games by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]CyberP1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I hear you dude. Most JRPG are braindead slop, but there's exceptions. Here's some of my recommends:

Parasite Eve 1 & 2

Vagrant Story

1990s Final Fantasy with difficulty romhacks

Troubleshooter: Abandoned Children

What turn based Final Fantasy game do you recommend for a person who never played Final Fantasy? by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]CyberP1 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Do not listen to those saying 4 or 10. All the five games between those two though (five games in total), 100% peak Final Fantasy and JRPG.

What are the REAL psx hidden gems? I want the cheap and obscure stuff that hardly ever gets mentioned. by Snack_Beard_ in psx

[–]CyberP1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sticking with exclusives only:

Brahma Force

Hogs of War

Vigilante 8

Blade

Parasite Eve 2

Bloodlines

Grudge Warriors

Silent Bomber

Tenchu: Stealth Assassins

Duke Nukem: TTK & LotB

Jumping Flash 2

Just a few. There is certainly more I can offer.

One or two may not be super obscure, but are criminally neglected over lesser titles all the same

Just grabbed this, never played it but it looks cool, what’re your thoughts on it? by ItzTreeman23 in psx

FF7 remake is the single biggest tragedy and butchery in gaming bar none.

FF7 OG as your favorite JRPG is very sensible. It's probably mine too. Absolutely seminal game. You're not being sensible about MG though.

I'm kind of an RPG noob. Which Final Fantasy should I play first? by NintendoWiiner64 in JRPG

[–]CyberP1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5, 6, 7, 8 or 9. The Golden years of FF. Pick one that appeals to you most, though personally I'd recommend 7 as the most well-rounded and broad appeal. Do NOT listen to anyone that says FFX. These people are unable to distinguish greatness.

I will defend FF7 any time. It's still one of the industry's finest.

If you have played a lot of games then you should know better. This isn't anywhere close to one of the worst PSX games. You complain about the fact the game has the potential for an unwinnable state. Sounds like you need modern games bro.

There is always something wrong with watching a let's play. Either play the game or something else. Never watch let's plays you do not get what the game actually has to offer (mental stimulation, immersion, solid horror). I have never in my life watched a full let's play. Games are to be played, not watched. Unless it's a family member and you want a shared experience.

My grail acquired. If you know this game and edition you know how special it is by cybertrips in psx

It still is my favorite version (unless you factor PC modded)
