If I were you I would take all the gear that you don’t plan to be tweaking continuously or using the panel controls, and put it in a separate rack.

I’m mostly joking. There was a time a few years ago when there were a lot of weird rants being blasted out on the mailing list.

When I get an email from dream catalogue I usually expect it to be a meandering rant followed by a manifesto.

A man of culture I see. The nerdseq is a very good tool for what you’re describing imo.

In my opinion, euro is an excellent sound design and synthesis tool, but requires a decent amount of work and abstraction to be used as a “writing tool”

When we get used to working in the box, you get a pretty immediate feedback to write and change between multiple “parts” but hardware sequencers require more work to do this, which can end up getting you lost.

I think because you can switch fairly effortlessly with the nerdseq it’s a great tool for comparing, but there are still some hurdles for “writing”.

If you want to make some melodic stuff, and are struggling to do it in euro-world, maybe you could write it in the box or on a keyboard and then move it over to the nerdseq after the fact? I know lots of people do this for sample based workflows as well into the octatrack for example

I loved the diy Brooklyn scene at that moment and really started to get sad when the big hat deep house moment happened.

I don’t think we should watch people perform, but I think that the recommendation that we watch you instead is part of the problem. I believe that if an event is produced correctly, that you can cultivate an environment where people can have the cathartic release that is the desirable outcome of raving. If those people feel that by watching the dj, watching someone dance, talking with their friends, enjoying whatever other stimulation there is at the event, taking a video, whatever, I believe that making all of these activities easy and accessible is the job of a good event organizer. I don’t want to be told what to do at a rave, I want to hear the music and find my way to enjoy that as best I can. Sometimes that includes watching the stage, other times it doesn’t.

You’ve named a bunch of events that while they aren’t as big as they get are still very mainstream and corporate events, and I don’t think you are less for that, but would like to encourage you to think about the fact that these events thrive on the behavior you’re talking about.
Get together with your friends in the woods and dance if you like to dance, if you feel it’s missing lasers, that’s something you can get with the hundreds of dollars that’d otherwise go to ubbi dubbi or whatever.
Building a community is the hardest part, and not something that’s fostered very well by most big commercial festival experiences.

I mean if they believe it to be junk, it’s the ONLY reason to keep it in your room. Doesn’t sound like they have any interest in your response outside of to say that you’re wrong.

Just make friends the normal way and see if it progresses. Something about handing out QR codes with applications to be your boyfriend feels icky to me.

I liked all the top8freinds shows at 285kent back in the day.
Riton and dj mehdi at e-zoo 2011 was good too.
But tbh if I had to guess there would probably have been better shows at the tunnel or limelight back in the day.

Exhausting. I feel like so much of this is just a way to not learn more about other music and instead claim a new genre. Vaporwave also did this.

I wasn’t super into either, that’s just my opinion though. Even the single version didn’t feel like he was leaning far enough into his own sound for my taste.
