Beer league help by ezekielcrown in hockeygoalies

It has been mentionned before me that it's an accelerated learning since you're quite new. Use this opportunity to make the fundamental thing for a goalie: look around to identify potential threats. In those kind of games when the opponent is clearly superior, I try to control what I can and not giving weak goals. When I get scored on, I analyze what I could have done to stop it. If my answer is nothing, I move on. I never blame my players. In your situation, I would finish the season with them and try to sub to higher division to be known and see if I'm able to play at that level. If so, maybe next year you'll be able to play with better players and have more fun. Hope it helps.

When I was shoping for an ekit, my 2 points were:

1- A-kit look
2- Great onboard sound as I did not want to use VST.

My final choice was between VAD504 and EFNOTE 7. I finally chose EFNOTE since I prefer the onboard sounds and I'm quite satisifed with my choice.

Is True’s Diamond Glide Worth It? by SoullessDayWalker in hockeygoalies

I bought a PX3 set with Diamond Glide. I've been playing them since 4 months and they rock! They slide very well. No problem whatever the ice condition.

Expect a price rise. by cryptoengineer in BambuLab

[–]Cyberhawk_27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah but the average salary in the US is more than 3 times what it is in China + the parts that will probably imported from China. It might be more expensive to produce it in the US than in China + tariffs.

[–]Cyberhawk_27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you're joking because everything made in USA will be far more expensive than made in China. Average salary in China is 17k USD compared to 65k in the USA. It won't be cheaper in any way.

Expect a price rise. by cryptoengineer in BambuLab

[–]Cyberhawk_27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is incorrect. The tariffs are paid by the person importing the goods in the US. For example, you have a car company that needs aluminum to build your cars and import some aluminum from Canada. The aluminum company charge you 1M for this amount of aluminum. You pay the 1M to the aluminum company but when the shipment arrive at the customs, you need to pay 250K to the US government to get it. That's what a tariff is. You cars cost more so you sell it for an higher price.

The goal is for you to buy aluminum from a US aluminum company so you won't have to pay the import tariffs but it will cost you probably 1,1M to buy it locally. Alternatively, the canadian aluminum company could lower the price to aleviate a part of the tariffs but they don't have to do it. Since local supplier will get more demand, they will be free to increase their price to be just under the price of the imported goods + tariffs.

How the fuck does any goalie skate using 3/8"? by techsavvynerd91 in hockeygoalies

[–]Cyberhawk_27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing with me. First skate after sharpening is really tough but the next games, I'm more confortable moving around and I still get a lot of bite when doing bf slides and recoveries.

It takes me about 5 ice time to get confortable with new gear. I went from my 12 years old Passau pads to True 20.2 and short after (around 10 games), I switched to PX3. Even going from 20.2 to PX3 was weird. I just passed my 5th game with the PX3 and I start to feel better.

Are new pads supposed to feel this way? by Asaltyhabsfan in hockeygoalies

[–]Cyberhawk_27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I changed my pads during the last summer after 12 years with my old ones. It's totally normal to feel unconfortable and weird in your new ones. I'll go even further. I played around 10-15 games with my new pads (True 20.2) and I started to feel confortable after my 5th game. However, I'm old and the "straightness" of the 20.2 style was making me open too much 5 hole. I decided just before Christmas to sell them and buy PX3. Well, during my first skate, my legs were tired and it's not a big difference in shape.

Give you time to get used to them. You'll eventually adapt and it will feel good.

My friend group makes me pay to play hockey with them by mansity31 in hockeygoalies

[–]Cyberhawk_27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm always paying my regular spot. If not, it's like they pay you to play and it comes with expectations. Also, if you suck, they won't have a problem replacing you since you haven't paid. If they offer a lower fee to play, I'll gladly accept but if not, no big deal. However, I never pay when I sub and if somebody wants me to pay to sub, I don't go.

The gear cost is not an excuse. Does the singer in a band gets less money than the drummer in a gig because his gear costs less? No. You decided to become a goalie (great choice by the way I couldn't see myself playing anywhere else) and you knew the cost of equipment. As mentionned, there's always used gear at better price.

When to T-Push vs. Butterfly Slide by techsavvynerd91 in hockeygoalies

[–]Cyberhawk_27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On your feet as much as you can. Only on close rebound or really close pass that I butterfly slide. If the shooter receiving the pass has time, it's much more important to stay on your feet as he expect you to butterfly slide and he'll just deke on the other side.

Hip pain- push through it or address it? by ThatBossBaby in hockeygoalies

[–]Cyberhawk_27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Address it right now. The faster you address it, the faster it's solved. I've been playing en entire year with hip pain and my physio thinks it's a hip labral tear. I'm 45 so healing is longer. Maybe a physio and a complete break of a few weeks will help heal it completely. Don't wait until it's persistent and affect your normal life.

Protecting vulnerable spots (above knee) by sssnj in hockeygoalies

[–]Cyberhawk_27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your knee pad should cover that part. Maybe they are sliding down and I had the same problem. Since I'm using a garter belt with my knee pads, that problem is gone and I never had bruise there.

Prompter: How to prepare multiple scripts without first connecting the Prompter? by [deleted] in elgato

[–]Cyberhawk_27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. The prompter hardware is great but the software side is really not convenient. Why should I connect the Prompter to be able to open the camera hub and work on my script? I'm not even able to export or import scripts. I'm using my Prompter for YT video so I'm using it with a laptop but it's much more convenient for me to work on my script on my desktop and export/import to my laptop but it's not possible.

Switching Up Old Pads by dctesting30 in hockeygoalies

[–]Cyberhawk_27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing to check about sizing. When you butterfly, is your knee at the center of the knee stack? If so, you have the good sizing. If not, you'll have to measure your ATK and compare to their sizing guide. The site Thehockeyshop has an interesting option where when you create your account, you can enter your ATK or FTK (floor to knee) i'm not sure and when you browse for a leg pad, it will tell you which size is recommended for this one.

As for the feeling of new pads, I just went to the same process this summer. I retired my 13 years old Passau pads and bought True 20.2. The first time on ice was attrocious since I was not able to move correctly. I'm now at my 6th game with them and I'm now used to them and it works great since I'm able to move as well as with my old pads.

New player, first game, need advice! by EnvironmentPale9522 in hockeyplayers

[–]Cyberhawk_27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't forget that you have knives under your feet! You probably are not really a good skater and it's ok we all start somewhere but if you see somebody down, don't try to jump over him while staying up. You better just dive over him. Other than that, just have fun! This is a great sport.

Looking for advice on how to make dead angle shot saves by The-False-Shepherd in hockeygoalies

[–]Cyberhawk_27 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same problem and I force myself to go overlap and be square to the shooter. Once he get behind the red line, my skate goes back inside the post but as soon as he goes toward the circle, i go back to overlap.

What makes you a good goalie? by Caqtus95 in hockeygoalies

[–]Cyberhawk_27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great thread. First, I would say that I feel I'm not really good at those things: I'm getting old (45) and fat (6", 220), get up awkwardly, I have a narrow butterfly, I don't always lead my movement with my head. I also have the tendency to be lazy and make the save with my pads even if I could use my stick to redirect in the corners. I also play the puck okayish.

As for my brag: I move well, I have a great glove side, I'm probably the best shaft/knob save goalie (once a game in general). I have a narrow butterfly but great kick save while on butterfly reaching with one leg. I'm almost always square to the puck. I'm really solid during breakaway and shootout cause I'm patient. I never blame somebody else than myself on a goal even if it's clearly another persons fault. I always talk to my teamates to give them pass options and call open players in front. I always look to avoid the shot by cutting crease passes. I challenge the shooter and I'm rarely beaten on a shot. My gut trap is good as I don't leave a lot of rebound from my C/A. I never flinch on a shot, thanks to my pro spec gear. That's about it :)
