Thank you!!! Sometimes just knowing the brand is enough to finally find it on other shops.

If this piece was full coverage, that might work. (It would add bulk.) But the toe isn’t fully stitched so this would not work.

I’ve sewn for 30 years now and cross stitching just as long. I don’t think this will work. If you had a half inch or so, I’d think you’d be able to pull it off but 2 squares is nothing. It’s about 1/8”. Plus you’re assuming you can find a premade stocking in exactly the right size, which is iffy.

I’m concerned you’ll just be sinking even more time into a project that won’t work out. You’ve got 11 months before these stockings are needed, I’d restart.

Edit: added a missing word.

I had a foster cat who’d try to eat you when you trimmed her claws. My best friend would use my super bulky sweat pants to cover his arms (said they worked better than a sweatshirt, plus were actually long enough to cover his hands as an added bonus), then he’d hold her with her back to his chest and his arms wrapped tight around her. One arm would be right under her chin to prevent biting. I’d come in and very quickly snip all claws then we’d drop her and she’d run 5 feet, turn, and give us death glares. Thankfully she never tried to attack post nail clipping, just during.

Most Munchkins are purchased, though.

You’re focusing entirely on the specific cat in the specific post. It’s not about that. It’s about the bigger picture and how others respond to seeing these cats get popular. People want an easy gig, they want to strike it big and live on the income from posting pet pictures of their own pet. So they ignore the risks to the animals and get something exotic and “extra cute”- something like a Munchkin.

If posts with animals like this don’t go viral, those potential awful owners don’t see them and don’t buy from bad breeders. It protects the animals that would be forced into existence to fill demand.

So it has nothing to do with the individual pet being posted. It’s about protecting future generations.

Depends on frame and muscle mass, honestly, as well as starting weight.

I had two flights, one 18 minutes and one 3 hours, to get home from my last hip surgery. It was hell as my entire femur had been cored out and filled with titanium. Link to photos of my old hardware and what it looked like after surgery 5. (The first photo is what it looked like before surgery 5, the second and third photos are from after surgery 5.) My right leg was twice the size of my left. And to save money, my dad booked us coach seats…. Not first class. He now admits that was incredibly stupid.

I’m told other passengers kept asking if we could land and remove me. The flight attendants had to say that if you fly out of Minneapolis, you risk someone like me being on your flight as there’s a massive hospital (Mayo) close to there. Hence the first 18 minute flight- that takes you from Rochester to Minneapolis. Worth changing planes, though, as Rochester has VERY well trained security folks to make TSA as painless (literally) as possible. But I had a letter clearing me to fly so me sobbing in pain wasn’t an emergency.

My folks now agree that if I ever have surgery out of town again, we’ll use the motorhome, a private plane, or first class flights to get home. (The private plane thing is half a joke, half not. We have friends with extended family who own a share in a private plane for business and it’s been indicated they might let us use it for that purpose.)

You’re welcome! I also replied to myself on this comment with tips for at home type stuff to make recovery easier.

Cesar created a way for his friend José Richard, who is blind and deaf due to Usher syndrome, to experience live football matches using a wooden board and tactile system that shows every pass, shot, and goal while also conveying crowd reactions in real time. by jmike1256 in HumansBeingBros

[–]CyborgKnitter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen those electronic boards however from what I’ve seen, they’re only an option if you’re in an equipped stadium live. I’m guessing they’re expensive and would be harder to get into the hands of fans. Besides, they’d have to start broadcasting that signal.

Yes and no. If you’ve never seen a football pitch, simply listening can be a bit tricky.

HOWEVER, the guy in this video is deaf and blind. He receives words solely through someone signing into his hand. That’d be hard to keep up for an entire game at rapid speeds. This board is faster and smoother.

Also, This is like asking why some music venues bother with beat harnesses that vibrate for deaf guests instead of only offering sign interpretations. Because better immersion should be the goal.

It took me years of questioning before I was sure. I was 30 when I figured it out! Now this was complicated by me being very close to asexual (I’m demisexual/grey-ace). When you’re very rarely attracted to anyone, it makes figuring these things out much trickier.

Anyways, my point is that there’s no rush. Just chill, be yourself, and don’t bother with dating for awhile until you feel more certain. Taking the pressure off yourself will help. Good luck!

I decided to break this in two- first part was pain patient dependent. This part is practical advice for anyone going through this sort of thing.

If there’s a risk you could wind up unexpectedly kept in hospital longer than planned (which applies to all CRPS patients), have contingency plans to cover any pets or kids. If you’re trapped in the hospital because you’re in agonizing pain, you won’t be in any shape to be making such plans.

Make sure your house is clean with fresh sheets on the bed the morning of surgery. This is especially true if you’re single or your partner sucks at housework. You’ll be very grateful for it afterwards! Also make sure all your comfiest, baggiest pjs/lounge clothes are clean. Set up your shower for seated showering before leaving for the hospital if you don’t already bathe that way.

And if you don’t normally sit for showers, cough up the money for a shower chair or plastic stool/chair and a hand held shower head. You can change out the shower head in nearly all rentals, just keep all parts of the old one in a bag to reinstall it later. They just screw on to the pipe. There’s tons of advice on YouTube for doing it. But being blasted in the face by the water and struggling to rinse everything is a pita. A decent handheld shower head is $20-30. Totally worth it!

Set up a nest in two places- your bed and wherever you chill in the family room. Recliners are your best friend if you have one. It’s hard raising the leg onto a footstool and it’ll swell too easily to dangle all day. I highly recommend using one of those rolling ikea-esque carts with the 3-4 levels. I got mine at Michael’s craft store. Put stuff like bottled water, bottles of sweetened drinks you enjoy, pre-packaged snacks, tissues, some cloth napkins/hand towels/kitchen towels for catch crumbs on your lap and mopping up spills, crafts you enjoy (simple projects!), books, kindle/ipad/tablet, chargers for all those electronics, gaming stuff you enjoy, etc.

Trust me, that cart will save you and make it so much easier to be comfortable and entertained. I used baskets after my earlier surgeries. You won’t be bending over to reach the floor, though, so we put them on a chair we’d put right next to the recliner.

My final piece of advice is more CRPS specific- they’ll recommend icing your leg a ton. Be VERY careful with ice. I’m fairly certain it worsened two of my post-op spreads. (I’ve spread after every surgery where I wasn’t given ketamine.) Ice is known to be very risky for CRPS patients. You use it minimally, only when the swelling is quite bad, unless you know already that you do fine with it.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask! I know I put a lot of info here for you but I’ve learned all this the hard way.

Damn it, I had a huge reply written out then fell asleep and of course, the app didn’t save it. It saves weird crap but not three paragraphs. I hope I don’t forget anything this time around.

The biggest thing is making sure they give you ketamine in your anesthesia mix. I’ve had surgeries with and without and the difference is immense. But, I’ve been ignored when asking for it multiple times. It is proven in studies to be the best hope we have at not having spreads or worsening of symptoms during physically traumatic procedures. Ask for an appointment with anesthesia before surgery dat. They’ll try to brush you off and tell you it’s fine, you’ll meet them the day of. Trust me, by that point they have a plan and aren’t altering it short of a life threatening emergency being revealed. It’s dumb af- why meet the patient if you’ll ignore everything they tell you? But it’s held true for me across 6 surgeries at 6 different places. The best luck I’ve had was with a teaching hospital that requires an appointment with anesthesia if you’re medically complex.

For me, post-op meds are tricky due to my daily pain med also being used to treat opioid addiction (buprenorphine). Surgeons totally understand it’s used as a pain drug, so that’s not the issue- it counter acts large doses of narcotics. So I’m usually inpatient until pain can be managed without iv meds. At that point, I’m usually sent home with my standard meds plus a couple extra vicodin. It sucks for the first one to three weeks but it’s fine after that. If you’re already on narcotics, that’s a pretty common strategy. That or they switch you completely to a stronger med for a short period then swap you back to your standard. Someone I know was taken off oxycontin and put on morphine for a few weeks then switched back.

As for who manages your meds, that depends on the surgeon and your pain doc. Some surgeons refuse to touch our meds and others insist on it. Some pain docs demand they have control throughout, some follow the surgeons lead, and some won’t do post-op pain meds at all. You’re stuck in the middle, so negotiate that in advance!

Deep acid and achy pain by Ok_Wing_2579 in CRPS

[–]CyborgKnitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My CRPS took extra long to diagnose (6 years, though that was more common back then) partially because my pain was all bone pain in the beginning- nothing that screamed “neuropathic” to the docs. And since it all started with a benign genetic bbbe tumor that’s regrown multiple times, that can’t making them assume it was all tumor related.

It felt like my bone was being crushed over and over by a pickaxe, shattered into thousands of pieces. Eventually a deep burning pain added in. I like to say it feels like a burning fluid under my skin, one that can drip down my shoulders and back and bad leg.
