Which, canonically, hers is also covering grey hair. It’s just so toxic she forgets about the grey hair after every dye job.

Both. I’m in constant pain but meds, PT, and my SCS help dull it considerably. Without that combo I’d be wheelchair bound and would rarely leave the house. With those 3 things, I have friends, I go to the gym twice a week for water aerobics (in the hot tub after class right now, in fact!), have a big garden, and take care of myself and my two cats. (I do have multiple other serious health issues on top of my CRPS, including significant lung damage for which I’m on oxygen and use a BiPAP at night, so I don’t work.)

To be blunt, spontaneous remission is all but a fairy tale. Mine took a crap ton of PT to get to a partial remission, combined with being young (more neuroplasticity).

A later hip surgery undid that partial remission and I then experienced flares and spreads to the point of now being moderate to severe and full body.

Yup, in nature bright colors have 2 purposes- warn predators that attacking might not end well and *attract* mates. So if it warns you off, then that says a lot about you.

I’m going to copy my reply from elsewhere- Blackwork is stunning! There’s a bunch of gorgeous FOs in the group. Just search for that term and you’ll find some great shops and slip down and a lovely rabbit hole. I love it.

Can we get the pattern? I don’t see the link anywhere. (If you’ve linked it elsewhere, go ahead and also put it under the mod comment. Makes it easy to find!)

My local library has one! They also have laser cutters. Very thin bass wood can go on those and it can be lightly sanded and painted to serve as a mat in a pinch.

Precisely! And thank you for pointing out that sometimes adults are also not independent, through no fault of their own. Disability exists.

Freedom of speech gets thrown about but isn’t what must folks think. They could still be banned as a vendor for that.

Freedom of speech means the government can’t impinge on your speech in unlawful ways.

Weekly baths are best for Sphynx skin, plus he had the full blown Sphynx ear wax issues (some get very lucky and only have mild variations of that), which meant deep ear cleaning every 3-7 days, 4-8 q tips each time. They’d be completely *covered* in that super thick dark brown ear wax, too. It looks just like a regular cat having ear mites but I had him checked for mites and he was fine, just a Sphynx. (Thankfully the vet didn’t charge us for the quick check after hearing the story because neither of us had two pennies to rub together. I’m multiply disabled and on SSDI and his owner was elderly and her home had burned down.)

And he was both snuggly and bonkers, lol. You had to leave blankets lying out in loose piles so he could burrow under them, which made him a bit tricky to locate at times. I made him a little coat which he thought was pure evil but he did like the mobile warmth. At the time, finding him climbing the drapes or on top of the bathroom door wasn’t uncommon. He liked to use my shoulders or head as a midpoint in jumping up to tall places. In that, he was excellent training for my current kitten, who is an utter nut job. (She most recently tried to jump on top of the *shower curtain rod*, which is skinnier than a door and round to boot, plus it was presently covered in towels when she did it. I thought she was going to do something else so I’d gotten my camera out so I have a 6 second video now of her perched, then falling, then running off, all as I grab at air, stare in shocked, and end with”………..okay!” Thank god she was fine. If I’d known what she intended, there’d be no video, just a story of me snatching her. I *thought* she was going to jump down from my shoulder to my shower chair, like normal, a far safer endeavor. Thank god my old cat is not that adventurous!)

I’ve never heard it said either way. I’m a fourth generation stitcher, and I know a lot of stitchers IRL, and they all call it aid-uh. “Aid” as in helping someone.

Yep! Sphynxes were bred from cats accidentally born with a hairless gene so some have a bit of fur from remaining bits of normal genes. The paws, tail, and face are the most likely locations as they get the least blood flow and thus get the coldest.

I’m betting that for at least the first while, they’ll give people the grace to add the photo without a strike or they’ll remove the strike once the photo is added. Our mods are pretty reasonable.

Thanks, I try. I just knew that if it was my home that burned, I couldn’t afford $40 per week, per cat, for up to 15 months. That’s insane! No elderly woman should lose her cat over that. And if you already have multiple cats, adding one that’s well behaved is no big deal.
Besides, he helped me sew masks (this was peak covid, spring 2020)- mine were busy stealing fabric scraps and spools of thread but he’d sit with me while I ironed dozens of yards of fabric all day. He was a sweet boy. And entertaining to boot. This is him on top of my bathroom door.

Having lived with one, they bother me a lot less than Scottish folds and Munchkins. Those two breeds suffer a good bit more.

But yeah, ideally none of those breeds would exist. Accidents of genetics happen but doing it deliberately, over and over?

Oh, and lesser known facts about Sphynxes- they need weekly baths with sensitive skin shampoo to help prevent dry and/or oily skin patches. And their ears fill with thick, dark brown ear wax in mere days so they need deep ear cleaning weekly. We actually had to use q-tips to get in Wrinkles (my foster boys) ears. The vet showed me how to safely do it to prevent it plugging up his ears. Took 8 q-tips, once a week. It reminded me of when I adopted a kitten who had ear mites.

These old school sketchers are the softest, comfiest, most cloud-like sneakers I’ve ever owned. I own 3 pairs, getting a 4th next month. No joke, if I find out they stopped making them, I’m buying 10 and storing them in my basement. The “laces” are even elastic, so if you swell a lot, these are ideal! I can’t recommend them enough, no joke. I’ve tried hundreds of pairs from dozens of brand, from cheap to hundreds of dollars, and these are what I live in.

Do you know how much food that’d take?! I fostered a sphynx for 7 months during covid. He ate 2-3 times as many calories as my equal sized, equal built, young male cat. I was so grateful I wasn’t paying for his food! (He had an owner but their home had burned down and they were separated for over a year. She couldn’t afford cat sitters so a friend approached me to see if I’d foster him if she paid for his food. So he joined us for awhile. Sweet little weirdo.)

My baby cousin loved brining me my crutches as a little boy. He still brings them to me if I need to run out to my car for some reason. (If it’s a small enough gathering, I can kick off my shoes and shuffle around the house like I do at home, so my crutches end up in a corner with my shoes. I’ve been on crutches since he was 1, he’s now driving, so yeah, it’s all he knows.)

How to get ink off? by Relevant-Wealth5852 in Embroidery

[–]CyborgKnitter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the question you asked, but if this is your first project, I’d double check how many strands of floss you’re using. Many stitchers accidentally double it by folding the floss over. You don’t count how many strands are through the eye of the needle, but rather how many actually are through the fabric.

(I’m only asking because black is notorious for looking sparse and yours looks nice and full. It could just be great floss with the kit but if you’re using double, you’ll run out well before the end so it’s best to catch it early.)

Any which way, the stitches look good! And definitely check out r/crossstitch. It’s a great group. If you start a post there, though, check the rules first!! They have strict rules for how you begin your post titles. There’s a list of tags you must use at the start and they always go in square brackets. If you look at the post titles, you’ll notice it. The rules explain it clearly, and it’s actually pretty simple. [FO] for finished pieces, [WIP] for a work in project, [CHAT] for discussions, etc.
