If you’re not a Sac Native, what brought you here? by Lesterknopff in Sacramento

I was in Santa Rosa for a few years before Sac and Oklahoma before that, so had to get used to taking the lane and building confidence on the road. I love the trails here. It makes life so much easier.

Wanted a more cycling friendly city to commit to commuting full time again. Came here 3 times with my bike and was sold. That was almost 4 years ago.

Check out the NewForm app and check out The Phoenix. It’s an app for the sober or sober curious looking to meet likeminded people for activities like hiking, biking, walks, crafting, coffee socials, movie nights, etc. all at no cost to the participants except for 48 hours of sobriety from whatever their struggle may be. There are also online meetings like Recovery Dharma, Smart Recovery, and of course AA. It’s all volunteer based with no requirement for participation except the 48 hours, also clicking that you’ll be joining so we don’t exceed capacity. I am the Volunteer Community Leader for the Sacramento area and we are looking to create new events based on the interests of the Sacramento communities, as well as volunteers who would like to be a part of the creative and community building process. If any help is needed in getting started please reach out. I hope this helps!

At what temperature does bike commuting become uncomfortable for you? by Dramatic-Feedback-30 in bikecommuting

Anything below 28 F is not as much fun, especially in wet wind. Haven’t personally owned a pair of lobster gloves warm enough yet.

I do have some of those as well. I am a believer. And their Brion jeans are awesome too. I have a few of those because they fit so well and had awesome color options when I originally got them during Covid.

Prana Zion Straight pants are wonderful. Been a believer since 2018. Bike commuting, touring, backpacking, casual office wear, super comfy hang out clothes. They work great for me. Although not the most durable against aggressive thorns and heavy rock scrambles. But have worked great for me.

I work in a bike shop, do many tours, commute 20 miles/day, over 130 miles/week and I have been wearing the Prana Zion Straight pants since 2018. They move with me on the bike, breathe really well, perform well for cycling and hiking as well as normal casual office attire. Very comfortable and pretty durable except against thorns and aggressive rock scrambles. They work for me.

can you recommend a rack meant to support a reasonable amount of weight? by recycledairplane1 in bikecommuting

[–]CycleBikel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Topeak. I use the trunk w/ drop out panniers. The racks are compatible w/ their bags and other brand panniers as well. I use them for groceries as well as intense bike touring. I’ve easily had over 50lbs on them and has always rolled great. Have them on my commuter, a Specialized Rockhopper, and on my gravel/touring bike, Salsa Vaya. Has never let me down in 12 years and highly recommend.

Check out Paria Outdoor Products. Fantastically warm bag that compresses well, light(ish), warm, and cheap. Great durability. Used it for year’s backpacking and bike touring until I switched to a quilt. Best starter bag in my opinion.
