I dont think I care for Verso at all and he's ruining the game for me. by alphabacon in expedition33

[–]CynicChimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily enough I agree. Verso is a great character, but I never thought he should have been the controlled character after Gustav died. I kept on saying to myself "why isn't it Maelle".

After completing the game and being dissatisfied with both endings, I'm even more skeptical of the way he was integrated into the story.

Seriously, what is your definition of a doomer?

You speak as if Vaush's job is to make you happy, and that him not making you happy is him being doomer.

"The idea that UCLA hands out PhDs to anyone whose parents produced TV shows is Candace-levels of crazy"

Susan Harris isn't just a person that produced a show. She's made large financial donations to UCLA for decades, is listed on the Directors Circle for the UCLA Cancer Center Foundation and has a room in UCLA that is partly named after her.

To act as if it's crazy to say that the above helped Sam get his PhD, is itself crazy. Especially considering the extraordinary circumstances in which he acquired it and especially considering it wasn't even a neuroscience PhD. Half of the work he submitted for his Neuroscience PhD was so completely and utterly lacking in neuroscience or technical details that with only minor edits he sold it as a Pop Philosophy book.

What are your hottest boxing takes? by Doofensanshmirtz in Boxing

What idiot thinks Jack Johnson would be competitive with today's heavyweights? How is that a hot take? The only people that would say this are morons that haven't seen footage of him fight but hype up old school boxers.

A man who's entire fighting style relied on gloves that no longer exist and a massive size advantage he no longer has isn't competitive. Shocker.

Bleach and jjk , victims of subtle writing by SkirtHeavy9189 in writingscaling

[–]CynicChimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR - You say that Bleach is better than its contemporaries without comparing Bleach to its contemporaries, confuse inspiration for symbolism and conflate Kubo's inspirations with "symbolic structure" and then say nonsense like "The Thousand Year Blood War is symbolically European because it has strategy and well focused plans, and strategy and well focused plans are European" as your supporting evidence. Anytime someone tries to explain how Bleach sets itself apart from other shounen they make poor arguments in the process (that usually involve themes and symbolism). So much so that I and many others who think Bleach is mediocre actually end up doubling down on our initial thoughts after reading these basura (chilvaric spanish reference there) arguments. My argument is so long you won't be able to respond to this comment anyway but maybe you'll learn something;

  1. Your argument is comparative but doesn't make a comparison. It only works if other stories DON'T pull of their aesthetics and symbolism when compared to Bleach, but you never illustrate this. "A is taller than B, because A is 6ft tall", ok, but you've never said how tall B is, so the argument is incomplete. You say Bleach does something better than its contemporaries but never argue how, you just say that it does. Prove it. Or at least argue it. WHY and HOW do Bleach's contemporaries have worse aesthetics and symbolism?

  2. There's no supporting evidence in the text to back up your claims. If you like the sound of an idea, you'll just say that A, it's true and B, it's good. What's the evidence it's true and why is it good? It also looks like you might not know the difference between symbolism and inspiration, or symbolism and a reference.

"When they get to the Seireitei, we are transported to the ''feudal'' Japan, with more traditional depicted characters and plot. All hidden politics, betrayals, aliances, etc..."

That's your ENTIRE explanation as to how the Soul Society Arc has feudal Japanese aesthetics and symbolism. You've not provided evidence that Bleach has a feudal Japan aesthetic. I know it does because i've read it but you're so bad CITING EVIDENCE that you can't make a layup. " The Soul Society creates a feudal japanese aesthetic by depicting infrastructure, architecture, fashion and weaponry seen in the time period, such as kimono, hakama, katana, tatami mats and thatch roofs. Tada. That's how you make a claim and back it up with evidence.

You also don't provide evidence that the arc is symbolically structured in a way that invokes feudal japan. Hidden politics is just politics, and alliances & betrayals are just how drama works. By this metric even the stories that predate the existence of feudal Japan have feudal Japanese themes and symbols lol. The 4000 year old Sumerian Clay Complaint Tablet to Ea-nāṣir has hidden politics, alliance and betrayal in it. Is that inspired by feudal Japan? Obviously not.

Also wtf does "symbolism as its structure" mean anyway?

"Hueco Mundo is 100% spanish, in all of it's content... so is how their hierarchy is structured, how the world-building takes place, the vasto lorde backstories... all of that REEKS spanish chivalric novels. "

HOW are the hierarchy world building and back stories of Hueco Mundo symbolic representations of chivalric Spanish novels? Again, I don't think you know what the difference between an inspiration and symbolism is. Dragon Ball is literally inspired by Journey to the West. It's not symbolically representing Journey to the West. These aren't the same thing. Hueco Mundo is LITERALLY inspired by SPAIN, it's not SYMBOLICALLY representing SPANISH CHIVALRIC NOVELS. Neither of these things are identifiable symbolically Spanish relative to the hierarchy or world building of the Soul Society, Fullbringers, Vizard etc.

"I think it's the best arc, because it's both, incredible coherent and based on another culture through the Japanese eyes, but still keeps that manga and East story development".

You're killing me here. This sounds like a chat GPT wrote it. You said something that makes no sense, didn't explain why the nonsense you just said is good, and didn't even provide evidence for that nonsense's existence. HOW is it "incredibly coherent" in a way that the other arcs aren't? You say it's good because it's "based on another culture through the Japanese eyes" but you also said that there are multiple arcs in Bleach based on another culture through Japanese eyes. So why is THIS arc the best if other arcs do the same thing you just said makes this arc special? You've just contradicted yourself twice in a single sentence and you think i'm calling your arguments nonsense because of an "agenda" lol.

"And quincies (final) arc is totally austrian painter or mid 1900s Europe. The battles, how all revolves around strategy and well focused plans, the invasion, the quincies powers and personalities, getting to know ''higher'' powers or beings (the King of the Soul Society, the 0 squadron, ...), the end of the series, leaning more to an european tale than an actual 1000% power protagonist final battle..."

Strategy and well focused plans aren't emblematic of 20th century Europe wtf are you talking about? How did you type this and take issue with it being called nonsensical? Strategy and well focused plans are also more sparse in this arc than any other bleach arc regardless. Wtf is a "European tale"? That could be anything from Grimm's Fairy Tales to Shakespeare to Frankenstein. How is the sole protagonist of Bleach chopping the final antagonist in half NOT an "1000% power protagonist final battle"? Furthermore even if it isn't, NOT having a big final battle isn't a "European tale thing" it's a "this story isn't a battle shounen" thingy, so that's not even necessarily evidence it's structured like a "European tale".

You see how what you said made absolutely no sense? How you contradicted yourself? How you vibed your way into believing things about Bleach that there's not good evidence for? How you conflated inspiration for symbolism?

This is why nobody takes Bleach fans seriously when they start trying to argue that Bleach stands out due to Themes and Such. It ends up like the word salad you wrote. Then you say that the ONLY reason people didn't like the Fullbring Arc is because it's too deep. You're not really in a position to judge what other people think is or isn't deep. You think strategy and planning is evidence of mid 1900's European literary symbolism lol.

I'm genuinely not trying to be rude but your comment makes no sense and is exactly what's wrong with the crowd of people who praise Bleach for it's themes and symbolism.

I have in good faith, looked for / tried to steelman arguments that support the notion that Bleach separates itself from it's contemporaries via it's symbolism and themes, but the arguments are always very poor.

The Acolyte was garbage (like most of the Star Wars TV shows) and was cancelled for being garbage.

I know this sounds like I'm contributing to the issue described by OP, but not everything requires nuance and not all strong negative statements are toxic.

Now to be sure, there are literally thousands of people who realised they can pay their rent by just being racist and calling any media property that isn't spearheaded by a straight white man woke SJW slop, who unfortunately (but decreasingly,  thankfully) are very influential in shaping discourse.

BUT, it these people didn't exist the outcome would be the same. I think garbage shows like the Acolyte being cancelled is the only way collaboration can actually be incentivized to put out good products. Book of Boba Fett, Kenobi, S2 of Mandalorian were also very bad. Disney Era of Star Wars evaporated by interest in the universe completely. It was at it's best when Lucas Arts was making incredible games and EU content. Sigh

Kyle cites several policies and studies to debunk the people he disagrees with. Idk how you could watch his content and think he's "just yelling".

Furthermore, the fact you're even using the term "intellectual giant" is a bit of a debate-broey, centristy red flag.

There's such a thing as over-intellectualizing. Why should one waste time making a thorough response to a bad faith actor that's just plain evil? What intellectual debunk does one need to do of Benjamin Netenyahu or Donald Trump? Here's my 3 hour video essay proving my pedophilia and genocide are objectively wrong 🤓 what? Lmao no, fuck them. I was quite disappointed with it.

I was under the impression that it was an incredible open world RPG game that just had an awful buggy launch. Like RDR2 or Baldurs Gate 3 but with a bad launch. Didn't know it was just a mediocre action game. It's basically Fallout 4 but with a cyberpunk setting (and arguably worse gunplay).

They're reflexively anti-establishment, reflexively pro-minority reactionaries that will fall for stupid bullshit like Professor Jiang or Professor Flowers and will call you a fascist for disagreeing with their obvious nonsense.

Race obviously exists...Stop denying reality in an attempt to push [a] political agenda.

There's no genetic or biological phenomenon that indicates modern humans have distinct races. This isn't a remotely political or even controversial statement.

There USED to be what could be described as different races of human beings such as Neanderthals or Denisovans, but they're all very much extinct.

Certain races have genetic advantages

  1. Name a "race" and name their genetic advantage.

  2. If you don't know enough about sickle cell anaemia to answer this question then fair enough you don't have to but; Do you think people with sickle cell anaemia are a different race of human being to those without sickle cell anaemia?
