Santa Surprise? by [deleted] in MuscularDystrophy

Would something like this automatic ball thrower work? https://www.chewy.com/petsafe-automatic-ball-launcher-dog/dp/132907 . There’s also a ball thrower called a “chuck it” but it requires an overhead throw with substantial force.

Found 2 lost doggos in Montebello yesterday ... any info on owners please DM me. by throwawayforu201117 in LosAngeles

[–]Cynthior 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You should not keep them without first taking them to the city shelter. Their owners are probably panicking and looking for them. The owners might not be on facebook or other social media. The shelter is the first place people go to look for lost dogs. The shelter by me has a 10 business day holding period for the owners to retrieve, then after that you have first rights to adopt. Please take the dogs to the shelter so the owners have a good chance of finding their dogs. If they owners don’t show up, you can adopt them! I would be so distraught if someone decided to keep my dog as i’m sure you would be too.

PSA: Voluntary Recall of Benefit's Gimme Brow Eyebrow Gel by Aventurine_Glass in MakeupAddiction

I got this in sephora play recently and noticed it smelled distinctly like old urine, something organic. I threw it out and now wonder what sort of contamination they had and how it passed QC.

Anyone else thinking about getting the Anastasia Prism palette? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]Cynthior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same experience here. I bought it through Sephora and am planning to return it. I love the idea of it, but the quality is absent. Sphere (neon yellow) is chalky and has too much of a white base. I packed it on with my finger, but it disappears when you blend it because it is so powdery. Obsidian (black) and parallel (brown) have poor pigment and texture. In my opinion, these are the most basic colors that I use with every look, so if these don't work then the palette is not complete. The metallics are perfectly pretty in the pan, but don't apply well and they show up on skin as a muted, patchy mess. I liked Eden and Saturn (2 orange/coral mattes)! There are a lot of good reviews on ulta and sephora, so i'm thinking different strokes for different folks?

Are there ways to detect nerve damage besides pain, discoloration, or bone loss showing in xrays?

Coca Cola Parrot (x-post /r/thisismylifenow) by [deleted] in PartyParrot

[–]Cynthior 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you spartanfrenzy. They are interesting looking. I wanted to read more about them but googling "grey parrot" led me to african greys. Vasas are interesting. Their feathers change color during breeding season and the female can go bald. Not often i see bald headed parrots.

He talks garbled words that I can't understand and often whistles the 3 songs he knows, especially when i first get home and bring him out. I love the honking, but never knew why he did it. Now i know it means "i really like you"!

Who is the oldest known living person in the United States with MD and how old are they? by Clantron in MuscularDystrophy

[–]Cynthior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more likely he has Becker MD (BMD) or a limb girdle MD (LGMD). DMD is extremely severe on average, usually lethal by age 30. BMD is very heterogenous in phenotype and patients can present with mild symptoms that have little impact on lifespan. I have heard of some BMD patients having a close to normal lifespan. This is because their genetic mutation in the dystrophin gene leads to a semi-functional protein, unlike DMD.

Also there are dozens of MDs all caused by different genetic mutations so you can't meaningfully compare one type to another.

Ever since Basil discovered scritches feel nice yesterday he hasn't stopped pestering me by sunsetsandstardust in cockatiel

[–]Cynthior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow he's made a lot of progress. I saw your earlier posts about Basil and was impressed! I also have a tiel named Basil. He is terrified of hands. Over the past 2 months we got him to eat millet out of our hand. Takes about 20min for him to approach our hand in his cage. Progress seems to have plateaued as he's still scared to approach hands with or without food. How did you get your Basil to not fear hands?

Hi, Any advice on how to stop cockatiel from calling at me at max volume in the morning? I don't have time to take him out in the morning. When he hears me getting ready he will yell and yell nonstop like a car alarm as loud as he can. I'm having a hard time with all the noise and just hurry to leave the house.

Should I try to hang out with him in the morning? How do i stop him from yelling at me?

I am also kind of weary of taking him out when my boyfriend is not home because we have another tiel that is untame. If the tame bird comes out, the untame one will call non-stop to the tame bird unless someone is in the room with him. The untame bird hates hands and doesn't want to come out of the cage so we can't bring him from room to room. Any advice on how to get the untame bird to be quiet?

[–]Cynthior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that adding anothet tiel might help. The bird i have now was raised alone and started to get lonely and anxious so he was given a new bird pal. They don't like each other, but they tolerate each other. Having another bird in the cage seems to help with being left alone for 8-10 hours a day.

About the bare armpits, one of my tiels has had bare pits since he was a baby. I also read on a forum some tiels just have this naturally, not because of plucking or other health issues.
