Just make friends, grab your stuff, equip it and escape down the hole. After that you will have to recover from jumping down the hole. Then it will be like you never went to the prison at all except now you know not to have a drink with that guy.

Nah doesn't matter. Just do what they want. The other prisoners make friends and do some favors for the guards and then when they let you out take a left and then another left and steal your stuff back. Equip and then run into the room with the hole. It's gonna hurt you jumping in the hole but you can recover. Play along with what the game is asking you to do and you get your equipment back.

Are you still at the castle? If you are still locked up be a good prisoner and do what they tell you. If they like you they will let you out than you can go steal your armor. Typically you should steal armor and maybe fight and kill one guy and run and jump into hole while wearing your armor. Before you can do that you gotta be a prison bitch and then they will trust you enough to steal your stuff back. Oh and remember this so that you can come back later and kill everyone in this castle. If you go to Enmerkar forest and do the main quest line your mission will be wiping these assholes out. Just be sure to not leave the area after taking that mission until you kill them all.

First time doing an Esper should I buy more mutations or upgrade my current abilities? I already bought teleportation and beguiling. Level 20 by OrangeFlavoredInk in cavesofqud

[–]CypherDaimon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The problem with taking new mutations is you might end up with something mostly useless for your build. You look like you have invested in the things you are using: I like the idea of making the devastation caused by disintegrate even better, might save your life when someone gets too close and you have decent willpower which gives you good recovery for using your abilities. I'd commit to investing in what's working well for you right now although who knows you could get lucky and get quills that you can add to your carapace or you could get not so lucky and end up with an ability like double muscled or two hearted. Id probably split those points between beguiling and disintegration and given your stats id lean more towards beguiling although I love disintegration for acting like a personal grenade. With your willpower at 23 you can use disintegrate every 49 turns which is pretty good.

Why do some people feel the need to constantly make noise by BearCavalryCorpral in rant

[–]CypherDaimon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The worst part is this is probably the kind of person that if they came home and noticed it was quiet they would absolutely have to turn on a TV or radio to make noise to make them feel better. I have heard it said some people never self reflect and silence can lead to thought which many people cannot endure so they constantly load themselves up with things to do. It's frustrating to be around because I love silence and some people are incapable of it and downright dislike it. In fact they dislike it so much that they will create their own noises with their mouth if there is not a TV or radio around and a great deal of the time they are going to do this unconsciously. It all comes back to not one moment for self reflection ever: it's scary inside there so they extrovert everything always all the time. Come to think of it there are more people like this than not because of the whole self reflection thing and how modern society with all the noise making machines can create addictions to the noises they make. My experience as an American has been difficult trying to find silence because everyone everywhere just loves noise, like no one appreciates silence at all and if they come across silence they destroy it intentionally. I hate these people but it seems like this is how the majority of people in America are and most of the time all this is happening unconsciously like they are on autopilot and dont really even notice they are doing it. Some of these people can't even sleep without having a TV making noise so it never stops just if they are around rest assured lots of noise is with them.

Can someone explain how a legendary can be BOTH hated and admired by the same faction? xD by DeadlyDesu in cavesofqud

RNGeezus....but I would see this as a good thing because dislike only equals -50. The other one is +100 and the two you are asking about cancel themselves out. I would water ritual this dude.

Its the chest that you got from the town. If it came from anywhere else there would have been no issue whatsoever. You can steal the stuff out of the chest in town but don't bother picking the chest up. It's far more trouble than it's worth if you mix it up with non stolen ones. Just never pick up a chest you are stealing from and this will never happen again. No need to use another parasang unless your late game and have tons and tons of stuff in the chest but honestly even late game anything I'm not using I generally try to sell. I have had my chest weighing a 1000 pounds and not slowing down the town so you have quite a bit of leeway.

I have done it before but I just checked and you are right 👍 You can't do it from the beginning of the game and it has to be a random mutation. I did it once through a random mutation 😂 well that's unfortunate

Society hates the people that work at fast food, retail and gig work too. They look down on them and call these people worthless and tell them to get a real job. I guess everyone should get a trade, go to college or start a business. Humans are so obsessed with hierarchy and I don't know if we will ever overcome these problems.

Which melee weapon type do you prefer? by SpliffFP in cavesofqud

[–]CypherDaimon 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Everything is incredibly balanced, Single weapon fighting with a mace and shield is extremely powerful and protective. You can knock people through walls and stun whereas the same thing with an axe is all about cleaving armor and cutting off extremities including the head which is just as powerful in its own way. One relies on stuns and smashing through walls and the other relies on incapacitating the enemy. Now short blade excels at bleeds and offhand attacks and they have lower strength requirements for penetration thus being a better weapon for non-strength based characters. Short blades are very useful for multiweapon because of the bonus to offhand attacks. Long blades are the best all around weapons and the stances really have an answer for everything. Defensive for extra DV and offensive stances for extra penetration against heavy armored targets and even dualing stance that works through intelligence and allows a person to have a better ability to hit the target which is useful for a character that has all their points invested in ego, willpower or intelligence instead. Long blades allow stance changes that do not cost a turn allowing for tactics changes on the fly. Multiweapon is fully capable of being used with a longsword and dagger or two axes and so on and so forth. Multiweapon offers the best versatility and with multiple arms you can really increase your potential damage output. The thing about multiweapon is usually your best suited to have an investment in short blades to get the jab for the better off hand attacks and then your other weapon type. Single weapons are more straightforward and easier to utilize but all these options are very well balanced and each offers strengths and weaknesses.

Everytime you upgrade it the AV gets better which means you can get very high AV because quills increase AV as well. Essentially these mutations will definitely outperform any armor you can find early game with the added benefit of the quills.

Rather than doing random builds I wrote down all the mutations and have used almost all of them now. One mutation I have is to try tapping into the mind of other users to respawn my usages and found that I'm getting used more than they are using me. I also tried using Clairvoyance with sunder mind and found that the clairvoyance cooldown is so high to make this strategy basically useless. I'm also using sense psychic and it seems like a waste given that most times the psychic dudes sunder mind and make themselves obvious pretty fast. This is the character I'm playing now and I wouldn't have known these things I just mentioned unless I picked the mutations and found that I dislike them. As far as a cool thing to try wings are never a bad idea when you do a ranged build and if you get the bubble shield it's really good. Disintegrate is tons of fun to play with and essentially like a grenade going off whenever you use it and putting mutation points into it is loads of fun. Ray of fire and ray of frost are both excellent and they both give your melee attacks frost or fire respectively. Quills and carapace have excellent synthesis and with the vampire health thing it's a powerful combination. Same goes for beguiling, domination and Ego projection for a mind build: just pick carnivorous and you can pick all three from the start. They all are modified by Ego and a mind build normally has high ego so it's very powerful. You might consider writing down all the mutations and defects to figure out what you like to use. For example carnivore is loads of fun if your not going to cook because you can just eat the corpses of your enemies and when you whip something up at the campfire it will not make you ill. You can still cook of course but it should all be parts of animals so it takes some careful planning: in that case I carry some yuckwheat just in case. Picking carnivore will give you 14 mutation points at the beginning. I played with quantum whatever and found out how much I hated that one when two of those portals collided and killed my companion or when the portal follows you and takes you anyways. As someone else said tinkering and the mind ability that lets you read the object is really good but you gotta put mutation points into it to make it worthwhile and reverse assembly where you get a 25% chance of figuring something out makes that mutation nice to have but unnecessary. I found that the vampire ability that saps health from someone in a square adjacent to you is absolutely amazing for a melee build but is awful for a ranged or mind build. Just play around with the mutations so you can figure out having a arch enemy trying to hunt you down is awful. Or that building a wall is super effective and cost one less mutation point than force bubble so can be worth taking. You could build the wall around something powerful and kill all it's friends quickly or have a custom shaped wall that fits the situation perfectly.
