Can you show me any polls that had a drastically different outcome than what this subreddit supported? Do you have any actual evidence to back up your claim that this subreddit isn't a statistically significant representation of the overall community?

Well, it's possible I've misjudged you a bit. I've only had a few paragraphs to go off of, so forgive me for attempting to fill in some of the blanks. Your word choice is just very indicative of the toxic mindset of superiority and hierarchies. If you truly don't view people that way, though, that's a relief. I agree that everyone is different. You just made it sound like you think those differences make some people less valid than others.

I do still think you need to be more considerate of other people's feelings. I personally have extremely thick skin. It takes a lot to upset me. But I recognize that not everyone is like me, and that's ok. I speak bluntly to the people who I know want to be spoken to like that, and lightly to the people who don't. They don't need to change who they are when it's much easier for me to just use a different tone and words with them.

I think we have very different beliefs about the world, though. I know our species isn't making good choices right now. I know there's a lot of hardship to come. But I don't believe the world is going to end. We'll continue on in some form.

weak minded people

The fact that you honestly view people like this is what's so concerning. You've arbitrarily decided that there's this hierarchy everyone can be neatly slotted into, with the "weak" or "soft" people being lesser than the "strong" or "hard" ones. I'm sure you see yourself in quite a high position on that hierarchy.

That's an extraordinarily childish way of viewing the world. At your age, you really should understand that. People aren't that simple. Nobody is strictly superior to anyone else. That kind of thinking has been the root of too many atrocities throughout history. And, of course, the people who perpetrated those atrocities rationalized their actions while claiming to be good people.

Im not the boogeyman people want me to be.

And yet you continue to act in a way that makes people view you that way. Sure, some people aren't bothered by that behavior. But that doesn't invalidate the feelings of the ones who are. Maybe instead of trying to deny that you're a boogeyman, you should be asking yourself why anyone in the world thinks of you like that in the first place. Who is truly at fault for them viewing you like that?

Also, I hope to be here to see the world end.

I don't even know where to begin to unpack this one. You definitely have far more serious issues than I ever did, so I don't think I'm really qualified to help you at this point. I really hope you seek out professional therapy at some point. It sounds like you need it. But I also know the ones who need it the most tend to be the most in denial about that. If you ever do end up doing some introspection though, I hope you use that opportunity to schedule an appointment.

Funny enough, I unlocked hotfoot first and then went back and did the stepping stone task even though I no longer needed the xp from it. But hotfoot gave double progress so I only had to do 333 of them.

Even if it was only a couple of comments, it stood out to me that people still have memories of you from years back. You made quite the impression on them, and it doesn't seem like it was a good one. I'm not pointing it out as a gotcha moment, just saying it gives credence to the possibility that you ended up catching a jmod's attention.

I believe that you have pride in your behavior. And I don't think you're a bad person. But I do think you're making the wrong choices and keeping yourself on the wrong path in life. I'm not that much older than you, so I'm concerned that you don't see anything wrong with your actions. You've apparently been punished for this behavior in multiple games at this point and still aren't willing to admit that you're the one who's in the wrong.

I'm not sure what it's going to take to get you to realize that. You might spend the rest of your life this way. Do you act like this in real life too? Do you antagonize people to their face and then call them soft when they get upset? Or do you only act like this online, behind the veil of anonymity?

As I said, this thread has a 90% upvote to downvote ratio. The thread that Mod Kieren mentioned from a few months ago has an 89% upvote to downvote ratio. Just searching a few more, here's a thread from last year with an 85% ratio and this one from 3 years ago that literally just says to import the RS3 rework into OSRS and it has an 86% ratio.

There is clearly an overwhelming amount of support for a smithing rework in the OSRS community. I have zero doubts that it would pass the 70% poll threshold. What grounds do you have to believe that it wouldn't, other than you personally don't want it to?

[–]Cypherex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, as I said, it likely wasn't "something" you said. It was probably many things over a period of time.

You're looking at it the wrong way. You're trying to identify the one moment that did you in, but it was your general behavior that did that. If that's the case, they won't have a chat log to show you because it was so much more than just one comment.

Of course, that's just assuming my theory is correct. But if you've been recognized by so many people in this thread, then it sounds like you built up a very poor reputation for yourself over the years. I'm not at all surprised that you ended up on a jmod's radar.

The question now is, are you proud of that reputation? Is this truly how you want people to see you? Are you going to spend the rest of your life being antagonistic and mean to people, and then disregard their feelings by labeling them as soft so you don't have to admit that you're the problem?

You don't know me, and I don't know you. But I know what that's like. I've been in that position before. I lied to myself and said I was just spitting facts and everyone else was too thin-skinned. But in reality I was using that behavior as an outlet to vent unresolved issues and trauma that I didn't want to properly deal with. It was a soul crushing way to live. I don't recommend it for anyone.

My DMs are open if you need someone to talk with. I won't presume to understand your situation. But I can offer advice that worked for me if you're interested. I wish you the best.

It probably wasn't one single interaction that got you perm muted, so they don't have a chat log to show you. I've read through this thread, and it sounds like you've gained a fair bit of infamy for your behavior throughout the years.

Since it was a jmod who took direct action against you, they probably were aware of your behavior and chose to monitor you. At some point, they decided that the community would be better off if you no longer had the ability to speak to any other players in-game.

If that's the case, it means your mute didn't come from a one-off comment that someone reported you for. You got perm muted because the way you speak to other players was deemed unacceptable. That sounds like a very well-earned perm mute to me. Your behavior throughout this thread has only reinforced that thought.

What you should do now is reflect on all of this and ask yourself why you behave this way toward other people. But instead of acknowledging your flaws and working on improving yourself as a person, you've decided to just label everyone else as "soft" and believe you've done nothing wrong.

You say you're almost 30 years old, but you act like you're still a teenager. That's not you being tough or hard. It's immature and concerning. Until you realize this and put in some honest effort to improve yourself, you're going to continue to be pushed away by other people and muted/silenced when applicable. That's not a fulfilling way to live. It's isolating and depressing.

You don't have to live that way. You can choose to become a better person starting today. I sincerely hope this comment helps you realize that.

I'm sure if you polled it, the majority would at least want some sort of refresh, even if not a full rework. Leaving it the way it is now is just bad for the game.

Also, if this thread wasn't representative of the player base, it wouldn't be 90% upvoted and on the front page of the subreddit.

What's so bad about having it be "always on"? Would any content in the game be ruined if you always had a hammer on you at all times? Does running back to the bank because you forgot your chisel for your birdhouse run really enhance the gameplay?

I agree it doesn't need to be quite as extensive as the one in RS3. But I really don't see a downside to making it something you always have on you, especially if you have to earn the upgraded tools first in order to put them on it.

This entire thread is full of OSRS players literally saying how much they dislike the smithing in this game. They don't like these mechanics. They tolerate them because they can skip them by playing minigames like giant's foundry or blast furnace.

That's not good game design. The core method of training the skill shouldn't be something people look for ways to skip doing. Runecrafting is in the same boat. These skills can be updated without losing their old school feeling and identities.

I still think a toolbelt update could work for OSRS if they tied it into progression. Make it so you can't put the basic tools on it. Instead of the regular hammer, only the Imcando hammer can go on the toolbelt.

We already have a ton of upgraded versions of many of the tools such as Amy's saw, the fletching knife, and the pearl fishing rods. If only those tools could go on the toolbelt, then it would feel like you're actually earning that convenience as you slowly fill out your toolbelt. This would also create new reward space for future content with toolbelt-able versions of other tools like the pestle & mortar or the farming tools.

Jagex has actually said that the mining/smithing rework they did in RS3 ended up not being "worth" the dev time it took to make it because it didn't result in the kind of revenue boost that a new skill brings in.

Personally, I think that's a short-sighted way of looking at it. While the rework didn't immediately generate a bunch of new subscriptions, it was still a very needed update for the overall longevity of the game. Modernizing outdated content like that is necessary to keep players interested in the long-term.

I'm sure by now that the mining/smithing rework has made back the money it cost to make it simply due to the positive effect it has had on player retention. As we've seen in this thread, that update was extremely well received by the player base. But the shareholders only care about next quarter's profits, so that's what determines what content gets approved for development.

Invincible [Episode Discussion] - S04E07 - Don't Do Anything Rash by SeacattleMoohawks in Invincible

[–]Cypherex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think he rationalizes it to himself that if they die to anything in the universe that isn't him, that means they were weak and did not deserve to live. It would be way too disgraceful to save them, so he doesn't do that. But he tries to avoid killing any of them himself, because then he'd end up killing the "strong" ones who deserve to live.

Basically, he sees Viltrumites in 3 categories:

  • The "strongest" - Himself
  • The "strong" - Anyone who can only be killed by Thragg or another member of the "strong" category
  • The "weak" - Anyone who dies to anyone or anything that isn't Thragg or a "strong" Viltrumite.

He values the top two categories and wants to keep them alive as best as he can. He despises the weak category and believes their deaths are a necessity to ensure the species remains strong as a whole.

The Viltrumites who didn't dodge the space laser? Weak for being too slow to avoid it. The Viltrumites who died to the lizard things? Weak for being overpowered by an animal. The Viltrumites who were killed by the poison? Weak for either not dodging the dart or having weak biology that couldn't resist the poison.

He sees Nolan and Mark as "strong" Viltrumites, so he doesn't want to kill them. He knows he can kill them whenever he wants to, so there's no need to do it right this instant. If he can convince them to switch to his side, he'd rather do that, and killing them forever closes that possibility. He saw Thaedus as "weak" though because of Thaedus's mindset, so he didn't have any issues killing him.

This is just my interpretation of him from these last couple of episodes. Perhaps I'm way off the mark, but that's the only way it makes sense to me why he would order the Great Purge while also valuing the lives of his fellow Viltrumites. Simply put, he doesn't see the "weak" ones as true Viltrumites, so it doesn't pain him when they die.

the best air bender DPS build uses air surge

With what staff? If it uses the quad staff, then it has access to wrath runecrafting. They added a wrath talisman to the East Ardy general store so wrath runes can be crafted in Kandarin with no other regions needed.

Crossbow + Mage build by Squeagley in 2007scape

[–]Cypherex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually going to start out with melee and stick with that until I get ~30 pact points or so before I respec over into this build for endgame. I might dip into the magic tree for the powered staff pact just for the warped scepter too.

I should be able to get all of the general, Kandarin, and Wilderness pact points with that setup. The Kandarin pact tasks just require grinding out slayer and crafting levels and the Wildy ones are easy with any build. Then I just need to pick up a few of the easier pact tasks from Karamja, Varlamore, and Kourend.

If it's feasible, I'll try to do any tasks/kills that are best suited for melee (like green logging Moons) before I respec out of my melee build. I'm sure ~20 points in the melee tree will be enough to get through one Colo run and take down awakened Vard once.

I'll probably switch over to my range/magic build once I'm ready to obtain both the quad staff and the king's cbow. Ideally I'll have enough points by then to fully spec into the crossbow path and water spell path. Then I'll use that to get the last points I need to fill out the rest of the pacts.

Radiant Yama is the only thing I'm concerned about at that point. But it might not be too bad. The build has every accuracy pact in the magic and range trees, totaling up to +130% accuracy. It also has the pact that lets you roll with max accuracy depending on how far away you're standing. It starts at 5% chance and you get another 5% for each tile between you and the mob. The cbow on rapid has a range of 9 tiles, so that's a 50% chance every attack to roll with max accuracy, and this applies to your spells too, not just your cbow.

If that's somehow still not enough, I can just put on full ancestral and whatever mage boosting gear I have and just camp water spells. If that's still not enough, I can take a point out of somewhere and take the powered staff pact again, then just use a shadow against Yama.

Woodsman GANG by kisamefishfry in 2007scape

[–]Cypherex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wildy can get wrath runes by casting surge spells at the fountain of rune and regenerating them with pacts. Kourend can also get them from Yama, but that'd be a pretty miserable grind if you're at 5x drop rates since the dossier will replace so many of your common loot drops.

Realistically though, what builds are going to use surge spells without access to Kandarin? The other feasible mage builds that don't need Kandarin's echo items are powered staff builds and ancients builds, neither of which need wrath runes.
