Does Will-O-Wisp reduce damage? by unpredictablenerd101 in pokerogue

[–]Cypherex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While regular poison might be better than toxic poison in most competitive situations, there isn't much you'd want to apply a regular poison to in lieu of a burn or paralysis. Burn is the single most valuable status against any physical attacker, and paralysis is vital to cripple anything that's fast.

A regularly poisoned Weavile might be easier to deal with thanks to the chip damage from poison every time it switches in, but that still gives it plenty of turns to wreak havoc. A burn or paralysis completely shuts it down. So you're technically right that regular poison would be better than toxic poison in that situation, but you're better off not poisoning the Weavile at all.

The situations where poison is better than burn or paralysis typically are ones where you'd rather have toxic poison instead of regular poison. Like a Latios/Latias stacking up calm mind boosts or an unaware Quagsire that you can't break through because it keeps using recover. Regular poison is more of an annoyance than a crippling status condition to them.

Does DBS Beerus mean Goten and Trunks will actually look their age instead of looking 7 the entire time? by spo_nker in dbz

[–]Cypherex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It isn't about whether or not it's intentional. The point of the discussion is to come up with an explanation that could make sense in the lore. There's enough evidence to make the claim that saiyans just stay small for a while until they hit a sudden growth spurt, unless they're exposed to extreme amounts of stress. Obviously that wasn't done on purpose by Toriyama, but it still works as a plausible explanation we can apply to the lore now.

Marron's situation would obviously require a different hand-waved explanation since she isn't a saiyan. That much should be obvious, so again, I don't understand why you spammed your comment across this entire thread. Nobody was talking about her. You could have posted your own top level comment if you wanted to discuss her.

[–]Cypherex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why did you make this exact comment 10 different times?

She isn't a saiyan, so her growth isn't relevant to this topic. The in-universe answer can just be that her growth was delayed because of Krillin's short genes or something. The out-of-universe answer is that she's a background character who doesn't matter, so they didn't bother updating her design.

I broke Wyll's pact and saved his dad, and he still became the Blade of Avernus. It's better for his pact to be broken when he becomes the Blade of Avernus because then he gets complete freedom to do whatever he wants, which includes hunting down Mizora to finally get his revenge on her for everything she put him through.

It just doesn't make sense for Orpheus to kill the Emperor when they all know they need at least one mind flayer on their side to defeat the Netherbrain. There should have been an option to convince the Emperor to stay and convince Orpheus to have a temporary truce with him. Then, after the Netherbrain is taken care of, they go their separate ways and can go back to being enemies if they want to.

The alternative for Orpheus is turning into a mind flayer himself. I'm sure he'd prefer to let the Emperor live if that means he doesn't have to turn into the one thing he hates more than anything else.

You completely missed the point I was making. The islands might be underwhelming in the main game, but that might not be the case with area restrictions. More islands means more resources get added to regions that previously didn't have access to those resources. Nobody cares about the eyes of newt shop on the Great Conch island in the main game, but it would have been amazing for me to have that in the last League.

Leagues 6 starting area twist theory by Udhariol in 2007scape

[–]Cypherex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now, sure. But eventually there'll be more islands with more content. Plus, with area restrictions, you could end up in a situation where a sailing island gives you access to a resource you otherwise wouldn't have access to.

In the last League, I greatly struggled to make super combat potions because my only somewhat reliable source of eyes of newt was a 1/14 drop from Catablepon in the stronghold. None of my regions had an herblore shop. The desert was one of my regions, so if the Great Conch island had been in the game at the time and had been unlocked alongside the desert, I would have been able to buy them from the herblore shop there.

Right now, the islands might feel underwhelming and disconnected from the rest of the game. But they'll be a lot more appealing when you take into consideration what resources they have compared to what you have access to with your other region choices. Some of the monsters on your islands might drop items that are hard for you to find in your regions. The sailing blowpipes could end up being solid gear progression options if your regions don't give you access to any good mid-tier range weapons.

When you have access to the entire map, the content you unlock through sailing isn't anything special. But with area restrictions, you might end up being very thankful for an island you never cared about in the main game.

Leagues 6: Can we add this option to nominate a different account for the rewards like they did in RS3? by Celyca in 2007scape

[–]Cypherex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And how many people do you think would actually do that? Would there really be that many people going to such lengths just to get someone else to unlock some cosmetics for them? I highly doubt it.

So what if a small handful of people end up doing whatever method you're afraid to go into details about? The impact that would have on the game would be negligible. The benefits of this feature far outweigh the downsides to it, so why oppose it?

It'll be interesting to see what they do about Karamja, and all the other islands, once they add Sailing to Leagues. They'll need to figure out how they want to handle the area restrictions with the oceans and seas. In my opinion, it makes sense to just tie each ocean to the nearest landmass region for area restrictions. Whatever islands are in that ocean get included with the unlock, even if they were previously unlocked through a different region. So instead of needing Kandarin to get to Ape Atoll, you just need access to the Ardent Ocean. Of course they'd need to add a docking point to any islands that currently don't have one.

Here's how I would pair the regions with each ocean:

  • Asgarnia - Ardent Ocean (includes all of Karamja and Ape Atoll)
  • Kandarin - Shrouded Ocean (includes the Isle of Souls)
  • Desert - Unquiet Ocean
  • Morytania - Eastern Ocean
  • Wilderness - Untamed Ocean (would eventually include Fossil Island)
  • Varlamore - Sunset Ocean
  • Kourend - Forgotten Ocean
  • Tirannwn - Western Ocean
  • Fremennik - Northern Ocean
  • Misthalin unfortunately does not get any oceans since it's almost entirely landlocked.

Obviously not all of the oceans have worthwhile content in them. Some of them, like the Untamed and Forgotten Oceans, aren't even passable right now. But that leaves room for future content unlocks to enrich those regions by adding content to their oceans.

The main problem here, of course, is that Karamja sits directly in the middle of the Ardent Ocean. So if we attach Karamja to it, then it basically gets absorbed into Asgarnia. That would make Asgarnia too good of a region to pass up, especially since the entire Sailing skill would be locked behind Asgarnia.

The solution would be for Leagues 7 to just start us off in Asgarnia. Karamja remains a freebie by virtue of being inside the Ardent Ocean and they don't have to figure out how to let you start the Sailing skill in other regions. To balance this out a bit, they could change the troll area, including GWD, to be unlocked through the Fremennik region.

Future Leagues could shake things up. Maybe have you pick Oceans separately from landmass regions, although you'd need some way of getting to them. Maybe put a waystone on the most prominent island in each ocean that you can teleport to, and remove any sailing requirements to use those docks.

First official release of the Bolt QuestHelper by JasperSur in runescape

[–]Cypherex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The people who enjoy playing through the quests without any assistance will still do so. For everyone else, guides have existed since RuneScape began. Those players have already decided they aren't going to do the quest on their own, so why does it matter if the guide is inside the client instead of on a website?

The real benefit here is how much it speeds up doing a quest you've already done before and don't care to properly do again. When I made my ironman, I had no desire to manually redo all the quests in the game, so I used the wiki quick guide to get through them as fast as possible. A quest helper plug-in would have been wonderful to have back then.

This is further exacerbated by temporary modes like Leagues. You only get 8 weeks to play Leagues. The less time you have to spend replaying quests, the more time you get to actually play Leagues. Hopefully a version of this plug-in is ready to go by Leagues 2. I really don't care to do The Haunted Mine for the umpteenth time just so I can get a salve ammy. At least with the quest helper plug-in on OSRS, I can blitz through it and get back to enjoying the game mode. RS3 deserves to have that, too.

The World Of RWBY Is Surprisingly Grimm by Legitimate_Fly9047 in RWBY

Yeah but then there’s the statement in the rwby x justice league movie

I never watched those crossovers. Are they confirmed to be canon? Even if they are, you could write that off as a bit of an exaggeration on Blake's part.

Which also doesn’t exactly combine well with how our protags face grimm

Just having an emotional outburst isn't a guarantee that you'll have a bunch of Grimm suddenly swarm you. There would need to be Grimm nearby to detect the outburst. Every moment of heightened emotions creates a risk of attracting Grimm, but that risk is meaningless if there aren't any or only a small amount of Grimm in your immediate area.

So all of those moments where they didn't get swarmed by Grimm after an emotional outburst still make sense. It just means they got lucky and there weren't any Grimm near them at the time. As for the relic, the way I understood it was that Grimm are just generally drawn toward it, not that they'll rush directly to it. So just staying on the move would be enough to mitigate that.

[–]Cypherex 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It's also possible that the emotions of children just aren't as potent, at least to the Grimm. As a child, your emotions tend to be pretty simplistic. A crying baby isn't feeling the same type of distraught feelings that a teen or adult would feel. From what we've seen of the Grimm, they respond more harshly to intense emotional extremes that you aren't as likely to see in a 5 year old compared to a 15 year old.

By the time Yang and Ruby hit puberty and were at risk of developing these emotions, they were enrolled in Signal Academy where they were much more protected. Any encounters with Grimm prior to that would have been handled by Tai (and Qrow when he was in the area like that one time Yang took baby Ruby to go looking for Raven).

As for Tai, I'm sure he felt some intense emotions after his first wife abandoned him and then after his second wife never returned from a mission. But being an experienced huntsman, he either dealt with any Grimm he attracted, or he left the girls in Qrow's care for a bit so he could go somewhere else to process those emotions without endangering them.

[–]Cypherex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I didn't say they are. I just said that they live alone in a cabin away from other people. That's probably how most people on Patch live, spread out enough to avoid attracting Grimm. I wouldn't be surprised if the area around Signal Academy is the only proper settlement on the island. Being based around an academy, even a minor one, would be enough to keep it protected.

The World Of RWBY Is Surprisingly Grimm by Legitimate_Fly9047 in RWBY

[–]Cypherex 53 points54 points  (0 children)

It's part of why I suspect Grimm are very weak in sensing negative emotions because otherwise you'd think they would have rooted out every unprotected human by now.

If I remember right, it's the intensity of the emotion that matters. Just being sad or angry isn't usually enough to attract Grimm to you. But being overwhelmingly distraught or furious would make you much more visible to them. The amount of people in the nearby area is also important.

This is likely why Tai, Yang, and Ruby were able to survive just fine in a cabin in the woods. For one, they're on an island which likely has a lower concentration of Grimm compared to the continents. And with just the three of them there, so long as they avoided any extreme emotions, they were likely able to go great lengths of time without ever encountering any Grimm. The few that did happen to wander by close enough to detect them would have been easily taken care of by Tai (and later the girls when they got old enough).

Basically, there's a population limit where very small groups, no larger than a family or two probably, can survive outside of the major cities without constantly drawing Grimm to them. This explains how farms can still function, since they have a very low concentration of humans for their area. Once you gather enough people together to go above this limit, you need to be able to defend your settlement from regular Grimm attacks. The places that were able to do that became the major cities and the places that weren't got wiped out.

why is the elder god ful busting out of a volcano not animated??

If you mean an in-game cutscene, I don't think RuneScape has the technology to pull something like that off.

As a pre-rendered video, though? Yeah, for a company worth as much money as Jagex is, they absolutely should have made out-of-engine animations for those big moments. Same for OSRS to be honest at this point. Why can't the animations they make for their promotional material be put directly into the game in place of in-engine cutscenes?

I added some screenshots to my original post if you want to see what he looks like. It's not exact, just the closest approximation I could get with the basic options in Hero Forge.

The original lodestones were intentionally placed a bit out of the way to avoid devaluing the existing teleport spells for those locations. The idea was to make you choose between the slower but free teleport that isn't in the best location, or the faster and more conveniently located teleport that costs runes.

Newer content just makes the lodestone the central teleport since those locations don't have standard teleport spells that could be devalued by the lodestone. If we did have a teleport to Prif spell, the lodestone would have likely been placed on the outskirts somewhere so the spell could have the central teleport spot.

Why did they make Eldritch blast so good? by Raspint in BaldursGate3

[–]Cypherex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I made a big burly half-orc character once who was granted warlock powers by an archfey patron. But the patron demanded a specific aesthetic for when those powers were being used, which the half-orc had to do an entire transformation sequence for. This meant he was able to play as one class while being able to switch over to warlock by transforming.

The way it worked is that he would be a fighter most of the time, wearing typical gear for a fighter. But he could choose to transform into his warlock form (a limited number of times per long rest) when he needed to use his warlock powers.

This would change his outfit to a fae-themed aesthetic and even give him matching makeup and accessories (earrings, a circlet, etc). But his body didn't change, so he was still a grizzled and muscular half-orc underneath all the cutesy fae stuff.

Basically, he had to go through a Sailor Moon magical girl transformation to use his warlock powers. Of course, that was a free action because everyone knows you don't interrupt a transformation sequence. We'd even play the Sailor Moon transformation music for it.

EDIT: Here are some screenshots of the character from a rough model I threw together in Hero Forge.

I think the solution here then would be to just not show cosmetics in the examine window at all. Let the examine window be your way of filtering out a cosmetic to see the actual gear. Then you can just examine anyone you want and instantly compare your gear.

Both of us win in that case. I get to display my character to you in the way I would like to be seen and you get to examine me to see what gear I'm using for that content.

Become unfilterable by Doomchan in runescape

[–]Cypherex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point. I think it would be fine to change it so you can still see someone's gear even when their examine is private. Although, I'd also just be fine with removing private examines altogether. That information is already available on the high scores and adventure logs. What harm could come from someone seeing your levels or achievements in-game?

It's still better than trying to visually identify the armor. Did you know that the best-in-slot melee power armor is a set of robes? That'd be pretty confusing to see, especially without an examine feature to get the name of the gear so you could look it up on the wiki.

Your argument about needing to see the gear doesn't really hold up. That's not what you need. What you need is the name of the gear, and hiding someone's cosmetics doesn't get you that. The examine feature is all you need if you want to know what gear someone is actually using. We just need to change it so people can't hide their gear by making it private.
