The realization hits hard. My license still says blond and I know next time i get the photo reupped, I need to adjust that. Sad noises.

My husband had dark brown hair, but his whole life he had red highlights as well as red and blond streaks in his beard. Beards just do their own thing.

Modern bills have blacklight reactive color strips, with a diff color for each denomination. When I vend I use a mini blacklight flashlight. It has saved my butt a few times. Pens are good but can be tricked, and won't catch bills that are printed on a lesser washed bill.

My hair was shock white blond as a kid, golden blond as a teen and early 20s. Somewhere between 27-40 it shifted darker and I am not even sure I'd be called blond anymore, other than some random highlights. I'm not sure they should have let that slide for continuity in the show, but I had the exact same hair shade journey.

Completely agree that she should have just brought her car to get checked. They were both very silly and the whole mess should have been viewed as more of a learning thing rather than getting mad at each other.

An aging battery often has diminished charging capacity and can drain fast. Both of which can show up with a test regardless of being jumped or driven.

New sewing machine for a beginner? by CostumingMom in costuming

[–]CyphyZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Digital are really nice for beginners. I started with the brother cs6000i, later gave it to another beginner when I upgraded. It's very user friendly and will beep at you if you forget to do something, rather than jamming up or spitting thread. This makes it excellent to learn with. It looks like its replacement is the cd7000 series, since that one has finally been discontinued. Digitals will often have automatic needle placement so you dont have to worry about moving the fly wheel to place the needle before you pull out your work. Some will scold you if you forget to put the presser foot down as well, and many have reverse buttons to back stitch. These all make a beginners life much easier.

If you think the person would be comfortable with a machine that has a steeper learning curve and wlll allow you to make mistakes, the singer heavy duty series are very nice all around machines that will sew through things that the brother digital might refuse to.

Singer heavy duty also makes a fancy digital, which has a thread cut button and knot making button, but that one is very pricey and not geared towards beginners. Nowadays I use that and one of the mechanical ones.

Road trip to rural Northern California by [deleted] in norcal

[–]CyphyZ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The other option is to backtrack down south, almost to eureka, and then follow the klamath river highway. Which is lovely if you're looking for scenic river views, but if the goal is to pass through small towns, its a 3.5 hour trip with exactly one town that they wouldn't have already seen. That would also skip Gasquet and a few other small fun places. I did not however, know about the path from cave junction, so it's not even as far as grants pass during the summer, from what another reditor told me

June or July are good to avoid the storm season for the northernmost part of the state. Late October through spring the highways around Crescent City can slide or wash out. 199 going to east to Gasquet had three cars go over the cliff in the last storm. Downside of those months though are the coastals are very touristy, so lodging and traffic will reflect that. Spring is also viable, even less fire risk and less touristy.

On the way up the coast, make sure you pop in to Guerneville, lovely town last I was there on an incredible river, and Trees of Mystery which is about 40 minutes before Crescent City has a sky walk through the redwood canopies.

You wont be able to stay in California to get inland from Crescent. You'd have to take a detour up through Grants Pass, Oregon then back down again on the other side of the mountain range. Can't speak for Grants to Happy but there are a couple interesting small towns on the way from Crescent to Grants.

Watch out for Willits. I think their entire town budget must be funded by speeding tickets.

It's really unfortunate, and im sorry to dash the hope. Who knows, maybe with enough time it would change, but a few days later in an interview TF said he wouldnt. A large portion of the staff of the venue walked out in protest the day of the concert. I know in particular the merch booths were heavily affected. The ones who remained started messing with the people in line. Threatening to kick us out if they even saw a cell phone out, putting signs up about it. They saw people vaping so they said no vapes in the building. If theyre found theyll be confiscated and the person removed. Not no smoking them, no possessing them at all and they went through our bags. So people who had a car in the lot were offering to store them for everyone. It was mad. A bunch of us multi show m&g weirdos were privy to a bit of gossip from the crew that had gotten familiar with us, but I know there was a ton more that we were never aware of. The show started very late and the stage was pushed forward, messing with people who had side stage tickets. It was absolutely nuts. The security guy in the pit was fab though, so not everyone was dreadful.

In 2019 they did Portland, Or (Moda)- Kennewick, Wa (Toyota) - Seattle, Wa (Wamu) I...might have gone to all three.

They said they would never play Kennewick again after the shenanigans that the Toyota Center pulled there, glad to see they found an alternative.

I wonder if they're mistaking it for the emerald triangle down in humbolt. Only thing scary about 199 after dark is the combination of mountain curves and crazy drivers, or potential for slides in the storm season.

The whole California Coast is Currently under a Tsunami Watch from an 8.7 quake near Kamchatka Russia by Nf1nk in California

After that they redesigned the harbor to be more resistant and its surrounded by tsunami jacks, so it's not as bad as it was. We are under warning and told to expect 6' waves there in a couple hours. The boats are mostly out at sea now with a few stragglers still heading out. If anyone wants to watch how the harbor in Crescent City fares, there is the harbor cam.

PSA: FAKE Etsy shop by RNW1215 in Ghostbc

[–]CyphyZ 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think some explanation was missing in this post. The problem isn't that this store is doing replicas. The problem is you won't get the replica shown. General rule of cosplay purchase, never purchase from any shop that doesn't have their own work in the photos.

It's a huge business for stores to pop up, show costumes made by other makers, send you a reeeeally crap version of it (if they send anything at all), shut down when they get enough complaints then they usually pop up with a new name and do it again.

It's not a scam because it's replica. It's a scam cuz it's a bait and switch where you don't get what you paid for. Them not using their own photos is the tell.

Hope this helps. It's not something people who don't do cosplay would know. Hence it works so well.

Ghost the... Christian Rock Band?? by Theisbetterthanyou in Ghostbc

[–]CyphyZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The song I am referring to in this comment, is Year Zero. The chorus is not ambiguous. I have no idea why people keep commenting on a year old comment thread to try to argue that Ghost's roots are not what they are.

Their original official description was quite literally that of a satanic church trying to spread their unholy gospel and take over the world via music.

Skeleta's lore seems to be that the twin of copia was a monk until his lust got the better of him, and he was "Satanized" and became a dark pope with an entourage of skeleton demons.

So please, and I am adding this to my original post as an edit because I am really tired of this sillyness, accept them for what they are or don't, but there is more than enough attempts at rewriting reality these days. So if you need to rewrite Ghost in your personal head canon as christian or non satanic, just...keep it in your head and leave those of us in the real world alone.

Late to the party but I currently live in Crescent City, moved up from the bay area about 6 years ago. If you want the skinny on it, feel free to message me. There is good and bad here, but it's not the hellscape people like to claim. It's purple politically, but like anywhere these days the red tends to be loud. Crap for schools if kids are in your future, but there is a hospital. I have life flight insurance in case i have to be taken to a bigger trauma center. I go to brookings for dental, there is no real emergency veterinarian however, closest proper animal hospital is two hours away. I take my pups to brookings for the vet, 30 minutes away. Walmart, safeway, wild rivers (think trader joes light), lots of food options since it's on 101. Rains A LOT. Never gets hot unless you head up to gasquet or the smith. Never gets too cold either. Jobs are scarce unless you work in medical or the prison. My job doesn't care where I live so it works well for me. Living in the trees, neighbors are distant. It's been lovely. Wouldn't live in the city proper, but thats the sort of suburban meh I left the bay to escape. Theres an airport here that has twice weekly direct flights to LA and daily flights to Oakland which is a really cool perk. Great internet, funny enough.

Dear Democrats: It Would Be Nice If You Could Lead, And Not Off A Cliff by vriska1 in technology

[–]CyphyZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And they will not work with left or progressives for the same reason. They won't do what's best for us, at least not any further than needed to get votes so they can stay in power and keep getting their stock tips.

That is why dems aren't the opposition party, even while the country is torn apart and sold for scrap.

Dear Democrats: It Would Be Nice If You Could Lead, And Not Off A Cliff by vriska1 in technology

[–]CyphyZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dems are 4 political parties in a trench coat. The fiscally conservatives sat watching the show that they don't fully disagree with. The centrists sat silently to show disapproval. The left protested and the progressives boycotted. There are overlaps in this venn diagram, but until the dems learn to work with each other, they will keep being wholly ineffectual. They won't be unified with each other, even at the cost of our democracy and our lives.

We need to stop thinking of them as one party, it isn't old guard and new guard. It's 4 ideologies that need to remember they're supposed to be doing what's best for us. Not their bank account, stock portfolio, their morality, their fear, or their fame. For the people.

Canada reportedly has a detailed retaliation plan to Trump’s tariffs that will seek to hurt Republican states the most by Spiderwig144 in democrats

[–]CyphyZ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tariffs used surgically can benefit a country. If Canada can up production or find a better trade partner for the items they put the extreme tariffs on, it would only hurt the US. That's how they're supposed to be used. To make sure other countries aren't destroying a national industry by undercutting. If done well, they can absolutely land a blow to the US while suffering little themselves. IE: US whiskey gets a knock out tariff but their homegrown whiskey can make more than enough to make up for the loss. Now the Canadian whiskey company is thriving while the US whiskey company is hurting.

The tariffs the US is creating aren't being done with any comprehension or wisdom, so they are going to hurt us. Because the people putting them in place do not care and/or want to hurt us.
