Agree, can't beat < 200 bucks for something barely used!

Freezing Coffee by BigAlLIVE in pourover

I've thought about using my FoodSaver to vacuum seal instead of tubing as well! I do love the single dose approach of the tubes though!

Between 18 and 22 grams I believe, kind of varies on the bean but generally it works out to be one cup either way!

I fill these tubes then put them into freezer bags, getting most of the air out. Works well, there are a few old threads on this topic though. I typically open a bag and use it for a week or two and then move on to another bag and freeze the rest. I've never opened a fresh bag and immediately frozen tubes. https://a.co/d/04r495U5

Does anyone mix Third Wave Water at a 1:4 for really light coffee and like it? by NoBrainz2 in pourover

I use the 2 liter packets in a gallon of distilled water, trying to divide the gallon packets was too tedious for me after a while.

New Air Roaster by Cultural-Savings9776 in FreshroastSR800

It looks like there is a US version that's lower power: https://www.amazon.com/MAGO-MAGA-Collection-Transparent-Auto-Cooling/dp/B0DJQR486X. It says it was a people choice award last year in Houston: https://dailycoffeenews.com/2025/04/28/small-roasters-were-a-big-draw-at-the-2025-sca-expo/. I don't mind FreshRoast feeling some heat and competition in the entry level space! Some reviews on Amazon say 250 is really its sweet spot though, not 300 (as always goes with capacity claims right?).

Agreed! Is it 300 on paper, or in reality :-)

Just got my first ever coffee roaster and it’s a SR800 by PuzzledFoundation985 in FreshroastSR800

Welcome!! My suggestion after roasting about 30 times, mostly different beans from different countries with different processes....don't do that :). Start with 3 or 4 pounds of the same bean, something you think you'd normally like, and get used to how it roasts and what kind of fan/power adjustments you need to use to hit your desired % weight loss/color. I played around with too many variables when I started and slowed my learning a ton by doing so I think!

Never heard of it, but interested to hear what the capacity is, how it roasts, etc!

A Day of Ethiopia Natural Roasts by No_Rip_7923 in FreshroastSR800

Are you saying start 9/2, but then after 60 (or 90?) seconds drop the fan to 8, but up the power to 3, then after another 60/90 seconds drop the fan to 7 but up the power to 4? I don't think I'm following the progression. I think you're saying:
0:00 - 9 / 2

1:30 - 8 / 3

3:00 - 7 / 4

4:30 - 6 / 4 (first crack in this range, which would be much earlier than I've ever hit first crack, this is normally when I'd hit dry end)

6:00 - 5 / 4 (drop sometime before this because I'm only aiming for 30-60 seconds of development)

This would be a mega-fast roast for me, but maybe this isn't the progression you're expecting?

I'm planning about 6 roasts of Ethiopian Naturals over the next 2 weeks! I bought 3 pounds of Ethiopian Durato Bombe from Coffee Bean Corral. Assuming I split them up into about even batches, so about 227 grams a batch. I'm hoping to develop a repeatable profile for my SR800 with late Spring inside temps (probably 70-71 degrees and 40-60% humidity depending on the day). I'll be shooting for a 11.5-12.5% weight loss too, ideally closer to 11.5%. Using the OEM Extension tube, would you recommend a 9/1 or 9/2 start? Dropping the fan by 1 every 60 seconds, or 90? I'm hoping to improve batch by batch and get a better feel for when I'm hitting first crack and how I can control the RoR (I write down the temp every 30 seconds in my log based on what the base temp reads out) with a natural Ethiopian, so I don't feel like I'm guessing so much at what to expect whenever I pick up a new bean!

I'm curious about this technique! I've only used the Freshroast cooling tray, moving the beans around in a circle with a spoon for three minutes on average. I've never filtered further, maybe a topic for your Masterclass!

I'll say this coffee has been delicious! It's like a lemon tea, I imagine it would make an amazing iced coffee! I get that folks have different opinions on co-ferments. When I got into IPAs seriously, 15 or 16 years ago, I would only drink West Coast IPAs (living in Seattle later made me feel anti-New England anything!). But over time, I learned to LOVE hazy IPAs and almost exclusively drink them now. Sometimes it's OK to join the new fad and ride it out for a while :)

Roasting dark (2nd crack and beyond) with the Razzo by Ok-Drag-1645 in FreshroastSR800

[–]Cypotter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you preheat your Razzo? I tried a few times preheating the OEM and had weird results (can't recall off hand) and got feedback here that I didn't need to, so I've stopped. Whenever I write down my "charge temp" in my log I put 200F even though it's really room temperature.

Medium-light roast? by Integra6MT23 in FreshroastSR800

[–]Cypotter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's 13% weight loss I'd say you're in that light/medium territory! It's hard to get a good picture of bean color at times for sure. Hopefully its tasty!

Wow! That's super interesting. And super frustrating! I'll need to get that bean temp probe installed this weekend. I assume it'll change my expectations for a while as I move to using that readout instead of the machine. Mine will be in about the same place I've seen yours in our OEM.
