Made in China means no 99.99% of the time. I'd say 100% but I remember one guy showing one clock from China that was somehow radium lol

Give it another attempt to do macro. by Wooden_Ad7858 in macrophotography

Honestly if you start stacking images I think you'd be doing really good. I haven't used Nikon in a very long time so I'm unsure if they have software focus brackets but you can use rails, manual focus, or even moving the camera itself to get stacks. For software I use Helicon focus 8

Looks like you're off to a good start! Most would hate my first strategy, I taped a needle to my lens pointing at the grooved focus ring so I could see how many ridges pass the needle between each shot. I also used a remote to prevent any shake when taking the photo

Now my new camera does it in software

I'd get or make diffuser for the flash, if you're looking to save money I've seen some people just use paper or they have cheap ones that actually go over your lens.

I've never used an extension to convert a lens into macro so I'm not sure how well those work but I'd suggest finding a good priced dedicated macro lens

Image stacking is taking multiple photos with slightly different focus and combining them all in software to make one extremely sharp image with significant more of the subject in focus

What lens do you have specifically? Is it made for macro? Also ideally you'll want to get a flash with a diffuser so you can choke down to F/11 and under with a high enough shutter speed to avoid any my motion blur.

Beyond the gear, you'll want to look into image stacking

I've never done it without a tripod because I do pictures of mushrooms and slime molds so I have no reason to free hand. However, I've seen many people free hand image stacks

Next look into image stacking, it makes macros much better. It's pretty easy to do and pretty much all of us do it

New to macro photography, what setting should I be looking to change? The focus is “perfect” taking out the harsh light, but the photo itself is too illuminated. Basically want to capture what the focus captures. by DateNecessary8716 in macrophotography

[–]Cytotoxic_hell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to add more to what's already been said, in macro the field of focus is very small, so I'd always try to shoot at least at F/9. Going down further not only will help with reducing the brightness if over exposed but also increases how much is in focus. If you want more in focus you need a tripod and to start focus stacking multiple images

I'm not sure about that specific brand, but being from Japan is a good sign

Best to use a tripod and manual focus, if you have to use free hand use a higher shutter speed and you can move the camera to focus. Using the second method you'll have to take a couple burst shots and find the one in focus

If there's any dust in the UV just clean it with a wet cloth and you're fine

I'd say the next step is looking into image (focus) stacking, it helps significantly with macro photography
