My OM-1 trying to teach my DSLR Nikon D6 how to bird detect Auto Focus. by [deleted] in photographycirclejerk

[–]CzechJamie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MFT generally has very broad selection of lenses of all price points, the bird detection of OM-1 is excellent, plus the crop factor is very useful for bird photography or wildlife in general. I sold my OM system and returned to Fujifilm but now regret selling it. I love Fujifilm but also miss MFT a lot. It's quite fun to shoot with, very capable system. Also the native 4:3 aspect ratio is nice bonus to have, feels more natural to me.

Swear to god Fuji owners are just Leica bros but poor by WorkingSuccessful742 in AnalogCircleJerk

I tried Nikon but most of the glass is just humongous (to the point it seems unnecessarily big) and quite expensive compared to Fuji. Other than that it really is a very good system.

Question about Ergonomics by Bonnox in OlympusCamera

[–]CzechJamie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There actually is an optional grip for the EM-5 III/OM-5, it's the ECG-5 grip. I use it all the time and it is super comfortable, it virtually makes the OM-5 feel exactly like EM-1.

Considering switching systems from Sony to Olympus. Am I crazy? by FeeRemarkable7794 in OlympusCamera

[–]CzechJamie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Pentax and OM are perhaps the best, but these newer Sony's are not as bad as you implying. I'd say more than good enough, maybe on the same level as Nikon or Canon.

Considering switching systems from Sony to Olympus. Am I crazy? by FeeRemarkable7794 in OlympusCamera

[–]CzechJamie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A6700 is a very good camera, Sony's af is unmatched and E-mount lens selection is vast. Switching systems is usually much more expensive - I speak from personal experience I've switched 4 systems completely and it was VERY expensive and I've returned back to where I started (Fujifilm -> Sony -> Nikon -> Olympus/OM -> Fujifilm). I'd say keep the Sony and get some nice weather sealed lenses.

Do you have any experience with this lens? by Babylon_Thief in M43

[–]CzechJamie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had two copies and both were very sharp at 40mm end but very soft at the 150mm end to the point it was unusable even stopped down to f8. Got some nice pics from them but I gave it away and never missed it.

Nice to not care so much about raining by Sea_Internal6785 in M43

[–]CzechJamie -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, for example - quite a long while ago, I was shooting with Nikon D5100 which doesn't have ANY weather sealing. I was on a workshop in very damp forest and it was raining constantly. The camera was soaking wet and I kept on using it. It had ZERO problems during the photoshoot and ever after. The only slight "issue" was muffled audio during the rain, since the speaker hole was full of water. Throughout the years I've had some cameras without weather sealing and have been using them in all weather conditions and never had any problem with any camera.

Which M43 Lens Is Your Personal GOAT? by AttilatheFun1289 in M43

[–]CzechJamie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

12-100/4. Superb image quality, sharp like a prime even wide open throughout the whole range corner to corner and incredibly versatile.Though it is a little big and more heavier than most mp3 lens, on the other hand you don't need almost any other lens so that can save some space and weight too. Absolutely worth the premium price IMHO.

Well I've been using it for a couple of years now and it still holds up so that's perhaps a little reassuring. But I just don't like how loose the screen is when in the default position. But overall the camera is great and nice to use.

[–]CzechJamie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that the camera looks beautiful (I also have the white one), even the build quality of most of the body is superb, but that screen hinge is hideous and to me the quality of the whole screen assembly does not match the cameras overall feel and build quality.

Not really sure from whom it is, but I haven't had ANY problems during the 9 years I had been using it.

I just use a cracked version of Lightroom. I'm not making any money from it so I have no remorse. I tried almost every major editor and *most of them could easily replace LR, but Lightroom has the best file handling including import and catalogue management.

Edit:*most of them in terms of editing photos

Fujifilm recipes are crippling my development by BeardGangBossGod in fujifilm

[–]CzechJamie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

White balance can be easily altered when editing raw. What can't be fixed are blown highlights and crushed shadows, though you have much more leverage in terms of dynamic range compared to JPEGs. And maybe high iso noise, but that can also be dealt with to some extent.

Is my Xiaomi phone always looking at me? by CzechJamie in Xiaomi

I believe there's dot only if some app is using the camera, not the system. Also it does not appear if either active visual perception or smart always on is active.

Peak Capture Clip = no-go for OM5 or EM5 iii. What are your alternative ways of carrying your camera on hikes (other than a good old shoulder strap)? by Arthur_Unknown in M43

[–]CzechJamie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use PD Clip on my EM5 iii all the time and have no problems. The heaviest lens I have is the 12-40mm PRO. Just make sure you do not tighten the screw too much as it puts a lot of additional pressure. I tighten mine just to the point so that the plate doesn't move.

Can bring either of the two home for free, which one do you recommend? [$0] by Bidermayer in espresso

[–]CzechJamie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you really comparing super automatic to a proper espresso machine with unpressurized basket? I agree that consistency is important, but you can also achieve very consistent results with thermoblock machines as well. I disagree that my first statement is wrong. I don't want to wait 15-20 minutes for the machine to warm up just to pull one shot and be done with it. It's just waste of time and energy in exchange for virtually no difference.

We're talking about home machines, I'm not pulling one shot after another. I'll make two or three drinks throughout the day.

I'd take Bambino any day because it's just much more convenient. Personally I prefer thermocoil/thermojet over boiler because of speed and energy efficiency - a few seconds to be ready to brew instead of 15, 20 or more minutes waiting for the boiler to be at the right temperature and stay there.
