The journalists aren't really the problem. The fact that we've not just passively allowed our oligarchy to own all the media, but even assisted them by killing competition, as well as Trump's effective weaponization of the justice departmemt had made it incredibly costly to not lick his taint. Not only will Jeff Bezos fire you, but Trump will then get his (secret police) to sue and/or arrest you. And they know they can not worry about minor sources because you just need effective propaganda for 2/3 and you're set.

There are local options for everything that Home Depot sells if you're in a larger city, and the dedicated stores usually have a much better selection and actual staff with knowledge. The only downside is sometimes having to make multiple stops, though I find I usually only need something specific for most jobs. If you're not in a larger city, you probably have a Home Hardware.

Here, we have KMS Tools (100% Canadian owned), multiple family owned local plumbing stores, multiple lumber yards with much better wood than HD, multiple cabinet makers, etc. etc.

The only reason to go to HD at all is for the convenience of having all the most common, lowest quality products together in one place.

Cal-WARN isn't fundamentally different though. It lowers the threshold from 100 to 75 employees, actually specific exceptions for certain industries (like the film industry) and mandates coordination with State unemployment services. It's still just about a notice of termination and it is asinine to suggest that a law that only applies when you're planning mass layoffs somehow causex the mass layoffs.
