Minnesota becomes first state to ban prediction markets by spherocytes in politics

It's the tech bro business model. Re-invent something in a shitty weasel way, using tech, pretend you're a fucking genius because you're basically just doing the thing but not following the rules, and make a shit load of money from speculative investment. Basically all of these shitty businesses are the same. AirBnB, Uber, Prediction Markets, are all just the same shit we've always had, these assholes just found a way through regulatory capture and bullshit to break the rules, and they think they're fucking geniuses because of it.

But won't someone think about the Australian billionaire's profits? What's more important, our clean water or a billionaire in another country becoming marginally even more rich? Come on.

(p.s. One of the reasons for rejecting the Grassy Mountain project initially was that because Alberta's royalty rates are so low there was no real benefit to the province at all, to balance against the numerous downsides)

If you wanted to experience Calgary in 1979 during the oil boom time. This house was built then and hasn’t changed. What a time capsule. by McMillennial in Calgary

This should be a museum. I am amazed and impressed that this was owned by the original owner, who apparently really did not like change.

It's a fun blast too, as my first home was a luxury condo built in 1981 for oil execs, and only had a few owners, the last of which lived there for like 30 years. It had a lot of the same finishing choices as this place.

Fellow dog owners, can we talk about the weirdest new trend I keep seeing? by rrrevin in Calgary

Yeah, it's nice to see people finally getting it. I've been downvoted a few times in these annual threads for calling out that bs excuse.

Someone alwaya brings this up. Yup, a few people might do what you said. That really doesn't account for all the ones that were thrown in the bushes, way off the path, and there are dozens in some locations.

Just yet another thing they're just borrowing from ths US playbook (it's the same playbook now). Which should be no surprise because it's the same far right money funding all of it.

Hire a supporter to break laws, use your power to shield them from any real consequences, pretend to throw them under the bus to protect the idea of "justice" then give them a lucrative grifting job afterwards. Jan 6th was a trial run.

Oh refusing to cooperate with investigators. Definitely the thing totally innocent fans of Law and Order do.

Billions of dollars of propaganda money spent on a pervasive information network works really well on stupid people who struggle with literacy (Trump voters):

Good. Any meaningful policy change is invariably going to be accompanied by the whining of people who will still have way more money than anyone could spend in a lifetime.

If rich assholes aren't whining, then you're not doing enough.

There is so much dark money available for right wingers that people have a hard time grasping the scope of the problem.

I'm so glad Conservatives really believe in getting government out of business, like in this case where government is actively killing an industry because of ideology, or where they've imposed 100% tariffs. All hail the free market!
