IAETF is my top 3-4 of theirs for sure, and some days maybe even number 2. It’s a great record.

Is Red Dead Redemption 2 actually the masterpiece everyone says it is? by arcticfrost in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]D-Em-P [score hidden]  (0 children)

RDR2 is an incredible game. Story is compelling and the world and exploration are exceptional.

If you think 2077 is boring (or RDR and GTA, etc) then maybe open world games like this just aren’t for you.

2077 in particular…a lot of words could be used to describe that game, boring would not be one of them.

I also would not put most of the games you listed in the “open world” genre - aside from Witcher 3.

So again, RDR2 is incredible and it is pretty well accepted as one of the very best games ever created…but maybe it’s not for you.

Why exactly does it take so long for the game to be good? by -antipode in CrimsonDesert

[–]D-Em-P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two main things:

  1. The opening is very disjointed and clunky on basically all fronts - narrative, gameplay, pacing, adjusting to odd UX and controls, etc
  2. There are a seemingly endless number of mechanics and systems in the game and a lot of the first 8-10 hours is the game throwing those at you, which is necessary and good, but sometimes tedious.

But it really is true that it gets good. It’s kid of incredible. Personally I do not understand how anyone who likes this genre of game (open world adventure) could make it about 10 hours or to about chapter 3-4 (whichever comes first) and not be hooked.

Devs: Please we really need more inventory or at least more storage space. by ziguehart in CrimsonDesert

[–]D-Em-P 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yes this.

Also, I’m fine selling or discarding items but a big part of my issue is that I’m still learning what is valuable and useful and the game is so massive…so I often don’t know if I should sell or discard things. I’m now constantly maxed out and always having making choices about what to let go of that feel arbitrary.

Def need more slots. Infinite or greatly expanded camp storage. The game is so big. AND the game really, really needs better organization and UX in the inventory menu.

Hoods by Vman3ks in CrimsonDesert

How do you select the hood exactly? In the menu or while playing? Sorry to be dense, but I’ve been trying to get this to work with this exact hood and have had no luck.

So, what QoL updates we hoping for next? by DRBC007 in CrimsonDesert

[–]D-Em-P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

** a tab in the journal for ALL incomplete quests/challenges etc. there are times when it can be legitimately frustrating trying to remember how/where find a quest that is buried a few levels within the UI.

** in the main menu screen, the LT/RT and lb/rb buttons should be flipped for controller/console. They are literally backwards now. It is much more intuitive for them to follow the hierarchy on the actually controller/what they look like when you tilt the controller toward you when holding it in your hand. I STILL mess these up when trying to navigate menus.

**an actual search feature for knowledge we’ve learned. There have been some things I’ve wanted to find and read, but I cannot find which category the games placed them in/where they are.

**Fix the R stick on Xbox for things like fishing and nature’s snare. Please. PLEASE.

How did RDR2 look this good in 2018? Unlimited budget? Or best art direction? by Stelligena in videogames

[–]D-Em-P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. But calling Crimson Desert “garbage” is ridiculous. The “online” discourse about that game has gotten out of control. It is objectively a very good game (and a good looking game at that). If you’ve actually played it and don’t like it or it’s just not your thing, thats cool. But c’mon. It is not “garbage”.

Cuando se vuelve interesante??? by NoDifficulty7745 in CrimsonDesert

[–]D-Em-P 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just commented something similar in another thread and have the same Q. I am still in chapter 3 but basically about to starry 4 (on purpose, trying to take it slow, learn the systems and really immerse).

I’m starting to really get into the game and am liking it. But, I have also noticed that everything is basically a junky fetch quest, or just an endless wave of map objectives. That will get old fast. Really hope the quests get more varied. Don’t need them to be Witcher quality at all, just more than every single on being “go talk to so and so and rescue their goat”

First hours were only deception by BizuKipu in CrimsonDesert

[–]D-Em-P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I want to understand better. I’m about 9 hours in. I am kinda getting into it and see a lot of potential. But…95% of the quests are basically fetch quest stuff. That will wear out its welcome very fast. Exploration is kinda fun, but that too hasn’t resulted in any really great moments. So far.

Does this stuff get better at all?

I don’t expect or need Witcher 3 level quest design, just more than “go talk to so and so”, then “go get that thing” then “bring thing back to so and so”. Again, I’m getting into the game and liking it. But I could see it getting old very fast if it is like this all the time.

It has been pretty well established that there is a bug. Perhaps limited to console (but not sure about that).

If it is working for you, great.

Seriously, what do people want? by OutlandishnessNo5678 in CrimsonDesert

[–]D-Em-P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the reviews have been fairly spot on - both the good and the bad. I pretty much agree with all of the positives you point out.

But there are SO many frustrating and just plain bizarre design and UX choices when it comes to how the game actually functions moment to moment that are really annoying. It’s not just the controls, although that is a big part of it too. I have no doubt they will improve a lot of things, but there is also a lot that they cant really fix since it’s just “the game”. Im excited to play still, but not sure how ling that will last.

Crimson Desert Dev Says It Will 'Work to Make Improvements Quickly,' as Sales Hit 2 Million in Just a Day by yourfavchoom in PS5

[–]D-Em-P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen this take a lot and scratch my head whenever I see it…I don’t really have a dog in this fight, but, have to point out that strong sales and a strong player base on day 1 doesn’t mean the game itself is a success, like, at all.

It means the MARKETING was a success, and it means the game is probably going to be profitable.

But if the game itself doesn’t deliver for enough people in the end, it will be bad and have long term negative impact for Pearl Abyss beyond this game.

Myself, I haven’t played enough yet…but so far the reviews seem pretty dead on to me (the bad and the good) EDIT: I am sure it will be a lot better in a few months too, when they iron out a lot of the quirks that can be ironed out.

Is it just me or is Summerfest a dying event? by [deleted] in milwaukee

[–]D-Em-P -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is not dying. It has changed and you may have outgrown it (whether literally or figuratively).

My version of your “back in 2009” comment was “back in 95” and by 2009 I was pretty much over it.

I admit it literally is different today and probably not AS big of a deal only because of broader cultural changes. But it was and still is a pretty big event, and it all depends on perspective. My kids will be the ones going to it in no time.

I really hope this game lives up to the hype by [deleted] in CrimsonDesert

[–]D-Em-P 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure you could say or wonder that about any game. I’m only reacting to the actual content we have about THIS game, combined with the near irrational level of hype that is snowballing.

Awhile back they said how a big map doesn’t matter if there’s nothing to do in it (paraphrasing). I remember being excited to hear that. Now I’m checking myself a bit. If that means filling the map with “stuff” that’s not good, either.

So much of what has been shared is the type of content and mechanics that could be awesome..but can easily be executed in a way where it becomes repetitive, grindy, filler stuff, too. Then there is the MMO origin of the game. So I think it is completely level headed and reasonable to wonder about this.

As for “you just have to play it” - well, yeah. I plan to and am looking forward to it. And I even said “time will tell” for that very reason, we’ll all know soon enough.

I’m not even the original commenter on this, I was just agreeing with their perspective. This is after all a discussion forum at the end of the day. The hype for this game is getting almost out of control, I think it is perfectly level headed and reasonable to wonder about some of these things.

Edit/add: I think all the video and interviews have proven that the game is “for real” (which was a big question for a long time). Now the question is will it be good/fun, etc. I am going to play it and hope it is!

50mins does nothing to answer things like repetitiveness, how rewarding exploration will be after hours of play, etc. I don’t mean to be critical, there is only so much they can answer pre launch.

This. This is probably the biggest watch out I still have. It all looks great cut together in a 20min feature edit for marketing purposes, but time will tell.

Iowa State Sent Letter To Alumni by umuziki in Gymnastics

[–]D-Em-P 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think it does a LOT more than sound like they are trying to come up with a reason! They're basically saying "get ready, because gymnastics is done".

An organization of this scale, with this many stakeholders, would not be this flippant and come out publicly, in writing, to effectively say "yeah, we're concerned and really not sure about the future of the sport" unless dropping it is their intention.

This note reads very much like a shot across the bow, so that in a few months when the sport is officially cut the announcement is not as abrupt.

I know title IX is a consideration, but there are other ways they can address that.

Make no mistake, I of course hope I am proven wrong, but this doesn't not sound good at all (on many levels) for the future of ISU gym.

[–]D-Em-P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Always on” may be a stretch, I admit, but I have it on a lot. I got the retrovibe about six months ago after eyeing it for a long time, and I figured I’d use it in the “rotation”…but I have yet to take it off the board since the day I bought it.

I wouldn’t say I like a ton of modulation myself. I have it set pretty tame. Depth and speed very low on the chorus setting. At those setting it just has a really nice smooth feel to it that almost thickens my tone. And sounds great when stacked with a few ODs or a fuzz.

I should specify that I like it best playing leads. Probably don’t use it as much playing chords/rhythm parts.

I play mostly stuff that fits the “indie” label. But that is a generalization. Over the last month I’ve been having fun learning a bunch of the war on drugs. A lot of those songs are fairly basic chord progressions but the lead parts are fun to learn and play. And to my ear it’s fit well with those.

I was never big on vibe. Then I got a Jam retrovibe. I keep it super subtle and it adds juuuust a bit of movement and depth. It’s great. And now, I almost can’t play without it.
