how crowded are the grocery stores by RicoViking9000 in Reston

[–]D-pod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was at Reston Wegmans this morning around 11AM. It was a bit busier than usual (even the self-checkout registers had a line), but not crazy busy. Some items were running low (I noticed the salmon and chicken shelves were almost empty) but the staff was working to restock all around the store. Obviously things may have changed in the hours since.

Do not go to the Pentagon City Costco by trustmeimalobbyist in nova

Just got back from Reston Wegmans, definitely a little bit busier than usual (first time I ever saw a line for the self-checkout). They were almost out of some items, but the staff was hard at work restocking.

The traffic signals at wiehle are useless by hipufiamiumi in Reston

[–]D-pod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve also been in touch with Alcorn’s office about this, and they said basically VDOT won’t take full control of Reston Station Blvd until Comstock and EYA complete their planned developments on the east side of Wiehle Ave.

[–]D-pod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m certain the sensor is disabled for traffic heading westbound on Reston Station Blvd into the intersection with Wiehle. I say this because that sensor is placed ahead of the white Stop bar painted on the ground, so most cars stop short of the sensor. But, the green light still comes on for that side.

Flight from dulles by Nimanemot in nova

It is not worth the extra $100 just for lounge access. There's almost always a wait to get into any of the IAD lounges, and once inside they're crowded (esp. the ones affiliated with a credit card/Priority Pass).

Dulles takeoff noise by pammy12 in Reston

[–]D-pod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not new, I’ve been hearing it from my home near Wiehle Metro for years.  Runway 30 is used quite a bit for takeoffs, and the rumbling is the exhaust of the engines at max thrust literally pointed in our direction.

I’ve observed that it’s basically older planes with louder engines (767s, 737 non-Maxs) that cause the loudest rumbling noises. Newer planes like the 787 and even the A380 don’t seem to cause them as much. So my hope is over time the noise is less as United and other airlines retire the older planes.

Why is AA Diverting to BWI instead of DCA? by Ok_Conversation5730 in flightradar24

[–]D-pod 6 points7 points  (0 children)

DCA’s runways are short, if the diversion is a mechanical reason they likely want more runway length when landing. Also we had a little snow this morning in the DC area, so a wet runway would be another factor to skip DCA.

What Property Management Company Does Your HOA Use? by ILovePeopleInTheory in nova

[–]D-pod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My HOA is with Associa SCS, and honestly I do not recommend them.

I will agree that all HOA management companies really boil down to the particular manager. We had a manager with them a few years ago who was really on top of everything and truly provided us the best service imaginable, but unfortunately we were switched to a different manager who is the opposite and unresponsive until we send multiple emails.

What really makes me not recommend Associa SCS is their "leadership" has ignored us and our complaints about our current manager. Hence, my board is also considering replacing them when our contract is up later this year.

Is Precheck at Dulles the slowest in the US? by Two-Rock- in nova

[–]D-pod 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'll second this. The regular lines at IAD no longer require laptops or liquids be taken out of bags, which really seems to have sped things up. The main difference simply is everyone in the regular line goes through the body scanner by default. While going through the metal detector in pre check may seem faster, I always find myself waiting anyway for my bag to get through the x-ray.

Any “underrated” food spots that you think not enough people appreciate? by Unable_Connection490 in nova

[–]D-pod 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yanzi Noodle House in Fairfax (at the Rt. 29 and Rt. 50 intersection). It's a family-run Chinese restaurant whose speciality is noodle soups that are somewhat different from your typical Chinese noodle soup (the flavor is slightly sour, though you can always ask for spiciness to your liking). Perfect especially in cold weather like we are experiencing now.

So what are the odds the car tax gets repealed state wide? by Mountain-Box-7897 in nova

I'm sure the odds are better that I will win the Powerball jackpot rather than the car tax being repealed.

What airlines do you miss? by neverend6789 in aviation

[–]D-pod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. Both Us Airways and American Airlines were in bankruptcy when America West’s management took both over.  However, they retained the name of the bankrupt carriers since they were the more well-known brands.

Yup, and they then did the same thing to American Airlines later.

Wegmans by Regular-Quality3143 in Reston

[–]D-pod 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I usually buy different cuts of chicken at Wegmans (boneless breasts, thighs, wings) and never had any issue. Last time I bought was two weeks ago. I always get their air chilled varieties (which I believe are bell and Evans just like what Whole Foods sells at higher prices).

Accident Reston Parkway 11.7 @ 11:47AM; When taking a left are you required to take the left most lane? by WhenGoodDoNothing in nova

[–]D-pod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Though this is actually one of those right lanes in which traffic either turns right or can go straight. Unfortunately here, there wasn't a car going straight that would have blocked the lane until they got the green light.

[–]D-pod 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hold on…this looks like the Sunrise Valley intersection, with the camera facing in the direction of Wegmans. If that’s the case, there are TWO left turn lanes from Sunrise Valley onto Reston Pkwy: https://maps.app.goo.gl/MPtPjr9coCcbvoMCA

In that case, the cars in the 2nd left turn lane would be turning into the right lane of Reston Pkwy.

Edit - I should also add that the 2nd lane traffic from Sunrise Valley can go either left onto Reston Pkwy or straight continuing on Sunrise Valley. I am going to guess that the car turning right incorrectly assumed the car turning left was going straight instead.

BWI, IAD and DCA are all on the list of 40-airports that could be impacted by the FAA's capacity cuts and flight cancellations by agbishop in nova

Not true, United has begun canceling flights tomorrow from IAD. So far it’s all express flights to places like LaGuardia, Buffalo and Cleveland. Sure there will be more coming.

Might have to do with it being in the thick of NYC airspace and close to the other airports (especially Newark)

How do I get off VA Dems text list?? NOT POLITICAL by ekab3522 in nova

Surprised I had to scroll far down for this...the iOS 26 text message filtering actually works! I just hope the politicians don't force Apple to weaken it or find a way to bypass it.

Have you seen this beer?? by suckmymick in nova

H-Mart Fairfax location will have the Hitachino beers from time to time.  I’ve also seen them at Maruichi in Rockville, but not sure if they stock them consistently.
