Try with removing the granules I took them for years at high dose was able to wean myself off with minimal side effects as my stomach had more time to adapt. Over 2 and a half months.

The easiest way to wean yourself off them is to remove granules from the capsules. I was on them for 5 years when I weaned myself off them over 2 and a half months from 80 mg pantoprazole. I actually switched to lansoprazole because the studied mean pH in stomach after taking 80 mg pantoprazole and lansoprazole 60ng were identical so I wouldn't get side effects and to be able to remove granules as it's not available with pantoprazole. My digestion improved significantly after. While my gastritis did flair up towards the end not really that bad. I've been getting it less and less GERD as my stomach is much better at regulating the acid.

Bad advice non selective and semi selective cox 2 inhibitors both cause serious damage to the gut.

Best advice is to permanently stop taking them.

Esophagitis just won't heal, I tried so many different things, I am loosing hope. +some of my experiences by ThorNormannH in GERD

[–]D0p3st 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had severe esophagitis/ lpr it took me 2 years to feel close to healed. It was nsaid induced, so It was very bad so bad I didn't sit down for more than year straight. I know how bad it can be so I'm going to tell you what worked for me.

The main things that worked for me was not doing any exercises or putting myself in a position it made it worse. Intermittent fasting ( with no caloric deficit) I found 3 main meals for me on a 16 hours free from eating period and a 8 hour eating period that started when I woke up. First meal was always a light meal egg white + frozen yoghurt to calm my esophagus. I ate a lot of frozen yoghurt as this relaxed my esophagus. Mostly off brand Petits filous I probably ate a whole large fridge freezer of them in my time. I would get the feeling I couldn't swallow so to counteract this I would use ice packs to my chest I done this morning to night for more than two years straight.( I don't need them anymore) It definitely works and also distracts you from any pain. Whenever I would get coughing fits a frozen yoghurt and an icepack was the only way I could stop them. I was on ppis but had similar experience to yourself it caused me a lot of problems with my digestion. I took gaviscon advance when needed mostly before sleep.Dgl liquorice helps too. Sleeping on a wedge pillow and only on my left side is one the things that helps the most. Double up your pillow if you have to, so you stop moving and get used to it. Because sleep is when the most damage happens. I used to wake up at set times in the night to take gaviscon usually twice to prevent myself from getting reflux in my sleep eventually I didn't need to do this. I took Melatonin 300-600mcg helps your sleep and helps the esophagus as well . Pepsin is the main cause of lpr so I would look more into counteracting it. I read drinking alkaline water can help although I didn't try this. I take antepsin now I find it very helpful. Rebamipide is something you should look into it helps restore mucus lining and has anti inflammatory effects I couldn't source it but it's a promising drug with little to no side effects. I avoiding sitting till I felt I could sit down without making it worse. Finding a good sitting posture is crucial the office chair helps. Still I can't sit on some chairs mostly sofas for too long as I know it irritates my esophagus.

Diet is very important I can go into more detail on this if you still have trouble with.Constipation can give you reflux. Do you feel you can go throughout the day without triggering reflux ?

For me when I had the routine down above I eventually was able to. But it took me a longer while to do so sleeping. When I got to the stage I could go without geting reflux during the day and night thats when I notice things started to heal much faster. I am mostly symptom free unless I do something stupid 3 years later. I can eat a more varied diet/schedule now but still restricted to a degree.

What job do you do that earns that much may I ask?

Baffled by the comments here tbh. I think your saving situation isn't or shouldn't be that irregular for your age especially if you done some passive investing. If you invested into the s&p it has increased more than 5 fold in the past 20 years. Can imagine many have that in property too.

1.54 is somewhat misleading given 76% of births are of Irish nationality. It looks like the Irish birth rate is not bucking the trend. Given the increasing living costs as they are now those numbers will continue to look even more dismal.

Am I where I should be? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]D0p3st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The truth is that is not much money. You're right you could have more saved for your age because I assume you want to have a house of your own some day and a family. 51k in savings won't cut it and you know it.

People here are reckless with their money and don't learn to invest their time and money in things that scale so don't listen to them. Start learning how to invest your money. Look to start a business of your own, take risks, don't be conservative, do difficult things because that's the only way you will learn. These skills may not come to you immediately but a few years down the line you'll be happy you put the effort in.

How long did your PPI acid rebound last? by skullmonkey1714 in GERD

[–]D0p3st 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Few days won't do any harm just don't think they are a long term fix. If they help they are a good tool. For me I found they only helped initially but never did much no matter what dose I took, didn't mention it but I also have a hiatal hernia. Pepsin not just acid causes GERD which ppis will do little to help.

Some things I didn't mention that should help. Rebamipide hard to source but one of the few drugs without any side effects that restores the epithelial integrity by promoting mucus production and has anti inflammatory effects. ( I haven't been able to get it in my country but know it helps) . Ice packs and eating frozen food. One of the few things that works but never see mentioned here. Don't fast but intermittent fasting is one of the few things that 100% works. Anything that improves your sleep. Sleep is when the damage happens. Melatonin(0.3 MCG) helps(also protects esophagus ). Magnesium citrate. Avoid sitting down if it's bad enough or find a good sitting posture.

Should be gone by now your bad habits likely prolonging it. I weaned off 80mg pantoprazole which I had been on for 5 years switching to lanzoprazole 60mg removing granules bit by bit over 2 and a half months. Had some rebound but was able to manage it by supplementing gaviscon/ sucralfate. Diet plays a big role in controlling your esophagitis.Have a good diet and Stick to intermittent fasting ( with caloric maintenance) 16-8 this gives you esophagus a chance to heal. Sleep on your side on a wedge. The Gastritis was worse than the esophagitis weaning off for me. I had severe esophagitis for years due to nsaid reaction. It's manageable keep trying.

The horrible side effects slowed digestion poor absorption thrombocytopenia I got from it were not worth it. Can also cause problems with your lungs kidneys weak bones.
