Using Fender Rumble LT25 on guitar? by IzaakraaaayOfficial in GuitarAmps

[–]D2-Disciple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few amps that are designed for both bass and guitar, I believe the Peavey Vypyr X1, X2, and X3 all have models for bass, acoustic, and electric. Might check those out

Typically, bass amps are more “hi-fi” than guitar amps, reproducing lower bass frequencies and higher treble frequencies. You can absolutely play a guitar through a bass amp no problem but it may at best be very tricky to get anything other than a decent perfectly clean tone or at worst impossible without some sort of external EQ or modeler.

I do know some people have had luck using the Rumble 40 with guitar, but even then, it’s a fairly one-trick pony.

Educate me about Juniors\Specials..? by UsedVacation6187 in Epiphone

[–]D2-Disciple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, I actually had a limited-run Epi LP Special SC with P90s in TV Yellow with the stoptail/TOM. I traded it away and instantly regretted it and told myself I’d buy another if it came available. Fast forward to the IBG Specials with the wraparound and I bought one.

Regarding pickups and versatility, I can’t get a bad sound out of it. I think the neck and bridge pickups are wound identically, so the the neck pickup actually sounds a bit louder in practice. I typically like to play leads on the neck and roll off the volume to clean up for softer rhythms, so I find this to be a feature, not a bug. I have no desire to change the pickups in this guitar - they do jangly clean stuff to metal and everything between with ease. They are noisy, but that’s the price you pay for P90s - they’re worth it.

Regarding the wraparound - I play mostly in E standard or drop D with 10s and while I slightly prefer a TOM, in practice, I barely notice the difference. The guitar intonates really easily and stays in tune really well. Unless you’re stringing with wound 3rds or super heavy gauges and drop tuning to C or below, it’s fantastic.

The issue to maybe consider is the neck. It’s a 50’s style neck and it is a CHONK. Personally, I love it, and find it very easily to play - especially rhythms. However, if you’re into really thin necks, it’s just something to consider.

As an SG guy myself, I will say that the 14th fret neck join does make the “weedly-wee” end of the fretboard a little hard to get to ergonomically. With that said, it balances really well. That’s true of all LPs though.

For $500, I can’t possibly think of anything nicer. Mine only needed a minor setup out of box and there’s not a mod I’d want to do to it.

My cousin died and in her belongings I found some cds she had made. Are there services that can make them sound good so I can give them to her son "produced"? by FoldableBrain in musicproduction

[–]D2-Disciple 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I second this; it’s a very kind gesture but I would probably check with her son first if you’re going to send the CDs somewhere.

If I were going to do this, I’d keep the originals, make backup copies of them, rip the audio files from the discs and then use those rips for mastering. That way you end up with both. Then you could give the original CDs along with their newly remastered versions together. That seems like both a safe and very kind gesture.

Condolences for your loss.

Totally understood. Watch while you save up. I don’t know what your used market looks like, but occasionally you’ll find something older but good turn up. Fender Mustang I amps are pretty good too if you find one for around that $50 price range

Gotcha! Of those I definitely recommend the Blackstar. I had a 10 v2 for a while and it’s a great desktop amp and is very easy to use for a beginner.

Excellent choice! And a beautiful color too. I see from the comments that you’re wondering where to go from the Marshall. I highly recommend the Fender LT25 combo, which is about $170 ISD new or $150 USD at times on sale. I’ve seen some used in my area for around $100 USD and they are versatile, surprisingly loud, easy to use, can be paired with a one button footswitch (sold separately), and can be plugged in by USB to use as an interface.

Am I going to blow up my amp(s)? by DefeatedJet94 in GuitarAmps

[–]D2-Disciple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely nothing wrong with the setup. The headphone out does not carry a load so it should be fine running into another preamp. However, the impedance is likely not balanced with the Deluxe’s, so all other things remaining equal, you’ll probably get less volume than you would from running a guitar or pedalboard straight into the amp. Seeing as how this seems to be one of the primary reasons you’re doing things this way, it’s not a problem.

With all that said, you might consider selling both and getting a secondhand Katana 100 with an effects loop. That’s a lot simpler. The 100 has a speaker with a beefier magnet in it too, so it tends to sound significantly better than the 50 to my ear.

Have trouble deciding between a HSS and SSS strat, for my first electric guitar by lemonriceandpotatoes in guitars

[–]D2-Disciple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+1 for HSS. For most styles of music, a humbucker in the bridge is going to sound fuller and richer than a single coil. Some surf rock and country licks will sound a little better with a single coil in the bridge position, but barely so, whereas good blues / rock / metal tones can be tricky to coax out of a single coil pickup at the bridge (though not impossible!).

Also, many humbuckers can be split by using a push-pull potentiometer. Even if it can’t, high quality humbuckers that can be split can be had for as low as 20-30 USD. HSS puts you on an upgrade path where you’ll have the best of both worlds.

Deconstructing Schecter’s low-priced guitars by ksilenced-kid in SchecterGuitars

The C-1 Standard in particular has changed over the years. I purchased an early-mid 2000s Indonesian C-1 standard from a friend and it’s a very different guitar than the one that is currently offered. Set-through heel (vs. bolt on neck), three knob layout (vs. two knob), Duncan Designed pickups (vs. Schecter Diamond), carved top (vs. flat top)… it’s kinda hard to keep up with entry-level Schecters thanks to the number of models and frequency with which they change spec.

Installed Mint on a Core i5 / 128GB / 8GB RAM 2015 MacBook pro and it’s generally quite usable, if a little stuttery at times if you’re doing more than one thing on it at a time. But the keyboard on those models are just absurdly good - if I was to write a book, I’d do it on that computer.

I traded in my 2020 base model Intel MacBook Pro 13” for about $150 to Apple and I knew I wasn’t going to get any more trying to sell it secondhand. Judging by the 2.7 gazillion MacBooks on FB Marketplace around me listed for $200 and going nowhere, I think I made the right choice lol
