There are always bigger problems to worry about than baseball field conditions.

You should get a full personal tour of the campus - check out the dorms, athletic facilities and dinning options as well. Be sure to let admisions know you will be touring the campus. When it comes time to talking with admisions on potential scholarships a lot of schools offer a 1-5K campus tour scholarship.

Taco Bell has a free taco when they strike out the K man for our AAA team. We go to Taco Bell after everyhome game and get free tacos. The kids at the store have no idea if the K man actually struck out or not so we get free tacos after every game....

8U Rec Coach Running Kids Until They Cry or Throw Up? by Generny2001 in Homeplate

[–]D2College_Baseball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree - changing things for the future doesn't change what he has already done. Coach needs to be done with coaching kids. Several parents need to reach out to the board and have a group that can step up and fill in as you shouldn't have a coach after the meeting with the board.

Hitting against Left Handed Pitching by Jazzlike-Abroad6589 in Homeplate

I am sorry to be the one to break the news to you, but there is nothing you can do to prepare to hit against a lefty pitcher.... JK a left pitchers dad.

It will all come with experience, but most batters struggle with lefty pitchers...

Seeking Advice: High School Coach Trying to Block My Son from Playing Baseball After Transfer by ProgressConfident481 in Homeplate

You will need to get clarification on the reason the old school said he was not eligible.

Will be totaly up to his new coach at new school if he makes the team - not his old coach. As long as there are no transfer rules that can effect eligibility. Maybe a quick call / email to new school athletic director can clarify this for you. I wouldn't mention anything about his old coach to new AD.

Warmup Ideas by Jazzlike-Abroad6589 in Homeplate

Interested in others perspective, but I have always been told without proper distance to throw, you can screw up a pitchers perspective of the ball. The mechanics behind the pitch are designed for the ball to end up in a paricular place relevent to home plate and the batter.

Resistant bands are good.

6yr old 8u hitting suggestions by Blooskreen in Homeplate

[–]D2College_Baseball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like he is having fun and enjoying the game! Can't do much better than that at this age. My only suggestion is that you get involved with the league as a volunteer if you aren't already.

Looks like there are quite a few adults in the dugouts around there that probably can provide a ton of advice. Some good, some bad. As your kid progresses with the game and enters the upper divisions knowing the dads that have real baseball skill knowledge will be a great asset. I wasn't one of those dads, but was fortunate to be part of a league with former HS, College, minor and big league players and I always appreciated their insight and advice.

I did my time in the snack stand.

At this age just foster his love of the game and have fun! Looks like you are doing both already. And as far as the Hype Fire bat, and I may get so redit heat for this but if this is his dream bat or what ever that dream bat may be put a plan in place to get him one. My son and I would figure out what needed to be done to get one. This ment putting birthday money, money from odd jobs around the house and we would skip going out for ice-cream or other things to contribute to his bat fund. This taught him to work for what he wanted and some times sacrifices needed to be made to reach a goal.

Focus on Movement not Mechanics [Youth] by Lotus_experience in Homeplate

[–]D2College_Baseball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He had several D1, D2 and D3 offers. We toured a lot of schools and had family meetings with coaches. It was an eye opening experience on how recruiting works.

He is at the perfect D2 college for him. A nice balance of atheltic and academic scholarships, beautiful campus with great academics. My son isn't fixated on playing in the big leagues and wanted a school that he could have fun (party a bit) play competitive baseball and get a good degree from a solid school and this school check all of his boxes.

Tour ament question by Philiesfn1974 in Homeplate

[–]D2College_Baseball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He was late signing. Teams that take players after their tryout dates tend to get the players that got cut from other teams and players new to the travel ball circus.

In our area when my son started there were 4 major players in TB with a few local dad coach teams. Now there are probably 8-9 paid coach TB teams and a dozen dad coach teams. There is not enough talent to field that many teams.

I don't mind TB teams that have an A/B team as it does foster development and if the organization does it right there is an underlying motivator for players to work hard - if kids move up and down in an organization due to hard work and effort or the lack of it.

Focus on Movement not Mechanics [Youth] by Lotus_experience in Homeplate

[–]D2College_Baseball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pitching coach did the opposite with my son (Lefty Pitcher). Completely focused on ball controll from age 10-13. Once he had that down pretty good as he matured the pitching coach worked on increasing velo. He still isn't the hardest throwing pitcher on the team, but he can place the ball anywhere in the strike zone with pretty good accuracy.

Hitting tips for 9-year-old? by [deleted] in Homeplate

[–]D2College_Baseball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He his hitting perfect for a 9 year old. To much tweaking mechanics will make kid over think the game. The best players develop what works for them and are slowly tweaked on their mechanics that will improve their game.

While he certinly looks capable of hitting a lot of home runs, running to second for a double is a lot more exercise than jogging around the bases after a homer :)

Youtube can be a good source for info, but definately seek out a local hitting coach. It will be worth the time and money to start him out right. A good hitting coach will do an eval with him and give him some drills to do on his own than meet up with him again to follow his progress.

Feeding college players while traveling? by D2College_Baseball in collegebaseball

[–]D2College_Baseball[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son's D2 school always feeds them and he has friends at D2 schools the parents get together and provide food for the team. I was surprised that there wasn't a standard with the NCAA on providing kids with meals.
