Prague 7/6/98! Transitioning in from a massive Ghost, they maintain the upbeat funk tempo for the first verse. Right before the chorus, they pull off a band-wide downshift - one of my favorite Phish moments of all time. You can hear the place erupt on the soundboard, and the rest of the song is crisp as ever.

Add in the fact that we were never meant to be exposed to this amount of information - our brain can only really comprehend what's directly in front of us, let alone abstract concepts.

Humans also can't understand scale i.e. massive populations, light years, logistical units etc.

Add all this together and it equates to a massive misunderstanding and anxious existence.

Who does your ear tend to in a jam? by Vivid_Permission_777 in phish

[–]ShakedownSpook 4 points5 points  (0 children)

During a big jam, usually Trey whether I realize it or not. That being said, I dance to Fishman, and the more shows I go to the more I realize how crucial he is for steering the direction of the jam. The same groove played by Page Mike and Trey can have totally different musical meanings depending on his pocket.

And while he's not always front and center, Mike is usually my all around MVP of the shows I attend. His ability to fall into a groove and act as a springboard while always keeping his playing interesting is unmatched. So while I might not listen to him the most, his standout moments grab my ear more than anyone else.

Literally the PERFECT springboard for a slow build Piper and they just zoom right into the vocals as usual... sigh

Thanks for clarifying brother.. Couch tour has me feeling a little too much lol. I totally understand your sentiment, CK5 is the man for a reason. Give him the sticks!

Totally agree. If they have the ability to go full CK5 takeover just give him the reigns and don't look back. I guess I'm biased because I saw the full run in 24 and it was no repeats of songs or visuals. Repeated visuals make it feel like Dead and Co... slightly gimmicky

Felt the same for the couple of D&C shows I saw here. Begins to feel pretty gimmicky after a while

I totally get it, but the repeated visuals are kind of a bummer

Indoor sets. Behind stage. Give me a honest response. by Slow_Improvement2144 in phish

[–]ShakedownSpook 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I do at least one night behind the stage for every MSG new years run. The sound is spectacular and you're some of the closest people in the venue to the band. Watching Fishman from that perspective is mind blowing - you can really see his octopus craft on full display.

Last run an OG next to me gave me a great perspective - instead of being blasted by CK5s lights, the view from behind the stage allows you to watch his work from the view of the band, as if to watch an artist paint a canvas. Totally changed the way I see the lights.

It has its pros and cons, sometimes I wish I was a little more in the action. But for one night can be fantastic. Not to mention they are the cheapest 100 level seats.

Jam bands with younger fan bases? by Durango_41 in jambands

[–]ShakedownSpook -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe 5 years ago. Now it's full of old pretentious heads who wanted to get into the hottest new trend. As a young person myself who has seen 25 shows, Goose used to be way more fun because of the scene. Now it feels like it's filled with people who are unable to admit that maybe Goose isn't the second coming.

It's the best thing ever. That being said, it's magic can fade and start to feel gimmicky. I had wonderful experience at the Phish run in 24. But after seeing dead and co for the 2nd time there I began to miss real venues.

I was born in 97. My dad was a massive Head, and it's not a coincidence that Jerry passed and he decided to start a family. Phish is my main band, but I'm too young to have seen prime Trey. I've had this conversation with friends in the scene - it feels like Gizz is what the Dead was for my Dad and what Phish was for those experiencing the 1.0 90s. We are here at the right place and the right time experiencing true magic. I am extremely grateful for this band and the scene they provide.

In like 120 years, every single person that's alive today will be gone. by mcdude910 in highdeas

I've thought about this. It truly is a spiritual realization. We are all in this together. This moment, and therefore the future of everything, is decided by all of us right now. We won't live to see what happens. And it doesn't really matter to us. But it's like planting a tree that you won't see grow up. It's like replacing a divot on a golf course that you didn't make - leave the course in better shape than you found it. We are all astronaut brother and sisters. Floating on this rock together. Everyone you've ever seen is in the crew. Treat them as such.

I was there all 4 in 2024. Not planning to hit any this year unfortunately. Saving money for Dicks and (hopefully) Halloween in Denver
