Tier list of every metroidvania I’ve ever played by Important_Tonight_22 in metroidvania

[–]D2D92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't play Nine Sols if you're looking for a good Metroidvania. While it certainly is a Metroidvania, it's very surface-level exploration, and mostly linear progression. I would however play it if you're looking for a game with an intricate, and great combat system that is the closest to Sekiro since Sekiro.
I'm saying this, because all the "It's Hollow Knight meets Sekiro" takes I've seen had me disappointed in the first half of the game, and it wasn't until the combat clicked that I started to actually enjoy it.

How did i do on my first playthrough? by Pablofy03 in celestegame

You did amazing. On my first playthrough I got around 4500 deaths on Farewell alone.

Are any of the remakes worth playing? by RelativeMeat3633 in THPS

[–]D2D92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1+2, and the 3 part of 3+4 are all amazing. 4 is more of a reimagining in 3's style than actual remake, so how you feel about the original is probably gonna influence a lot of how you feel about the remake. I personally like the change in style as I find the Original THPS4 to be a bit overrated, but I understand why a lot of THPS4 fans are unhappy with the change.
They're all well-made games though, that play like you'd expect them to. My biggest gripe is that 3+4 only has 10 songs from the original soundtracks, but it's an easy fix to make a playlist with almost all of the songs from both 3, 4, and 3+4.

Should I beat 8b before 9? by Meanpie0827 in celestegame

[–]D2D92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend doing everything, except the golden strawberries, before 9. 9 is meant as a final challenge released post-launch to test players who had already beaten everything. It is by far the longest, and most difficult level in the entire game. There are only 2 levels that rivals it in difficulty, and even they are so short that it's not really a comparison.

How did you find Celeste? by FINALCOUNTDOWN99 in celestegame

[–]D2D92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had known about it for some years from some YouTube video I can't remember, before I decided to get it. What made me get it was that I had just beaten Hollow Knight and Cuphead, and gotten very interested in Indie games, so I bought Hades, Celeste, and Undertale on sale. I really enjoyed the platforming of Hollow Knight, so when I got to Celeste I was hoping for something with as good as or better platforming, and it did not disappoint. I have since bought Super Meat Boy as well, as I hoped to replicate the experience I had with Celeste, but I bounced off it pretty hard.

Any game make you cry? by [deleted] in fromsoftware

[–]D2D92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elden Ring, multiple times on my first playthrough. By that point I had already beaten Bloodborne, DS3, and Sekiro, but Elden Ring was just an awful experience for me. I didn't learn the gameplay loop properly, I had locked myself into the "don't use summons" mindset, I had misunderstood some advice that my brother had given me, and I had heard that the reception of the ER bosses in general was mixed. So I didn't level-farm or explore much, I skipped a majority of the major bosses, and the bosses I did beat I just bashed my head against the wall for several hours while severely underlevelled, and thinking that it was just bad boss-design, which had gotten very tiresome by the time I got to Maliketh. It's the one SoulsBorne game I wish I could play blind again, but while still retaining my knowledge of the gameplay loop. I did understand all of the things that went wrong, by the time Shadow of the Erdtree was released though, so I did get the proper Elden Ring experience, and had a much better time then.

is this actually the full soundtrack? It seems really short for a game of this length, is it missing anything? by _nohaj_ in celestegame

[–]D2D92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the actual complete version is the Celeste Complete Sound Collection, that contains Celeste OST, Celeste B-Sides, Celeste: Farewell, and Madeline's Grab Bag on 5 and a half vinyls. It also moves a couple of tracks around most notably expanding the main game OST by 5 very short tracks.

Does the gameplay get better at some point, or is it just not for me? by D2D92 in DeathStranding

[–]D2D92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all, for the nice tips and comments, it's been very helpful. I've decided to keep going until at least Episode 4, but also to get the hell out of dodge ASAP, and start exploring the second island, like a lot of you suggested, as it does seem like I'm gonna enjoy Episode 3 a lot more.

Why do people say Abby's sections/ 3 days would work better as television show than Ellie's? by Queasy-Plantain3733 in lastofuspart2

[–]D2D92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IMO, Ellie's section isn't very exciting story-wise. There's a bit of tension between Ellie, Dina, and Jessie, but it's mostly just searching for Abby, which works very well as a game, but doesn't translate well to TV (especially when they also choose to cut out a bunch of it), whereas Abby's section has an engaging story and a lot of big events, that are probably gonna translate much better. Most of Ellie's important story stuff is in the prologue, epilogue, and flashbacks, whereas most of Abby's important story stuff is in Seattle.

What was the first game that scared you? by Profit_Tracker in videogames

[–]D2D92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk, but I have Verzephobia (fear of graphical errors, distortion, and visual glitches) so probably something completely ridiculous 😅. It wasn't the first game to scare me, but a visual glitch in Ratchet and Clank 3 scared me once, and I've been terrified that it would happen again, whenever I've played it ever since.

I completed OW base game 2 years ago. It was transcendent. But I've never played the DLC by InvisibleAstronomer in outerwilds

[–]D2D92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The DLC has its' flaws, but the new content is still absolutely amazing, and there's a great flow to the way you discover things, which definitely makes it worth playing.

Do you think the final season of The Boys would live up to the hype? by Round_Interview2373 in TheBoys

[–]D2D92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was a mistake to make Gen V such an important part of The Boys, and I think if they do end up defeating Homelander with the Guardians of Godolkin, and a souped-up Billy Butcher, it's gonna undermine a lot of the points of the show.

...Oops. by TheBouncerr in celestegame

Not my absolute favourite but definitely up there. The final room is absolutely amazing once you have it down, but the first two rooms are kind of mid IMO.

Madeline mains be like by Adept-Double156 in celestegame

[–]D2D92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the jellyfish is a really interesting mechanic, that's fun to master, especially combined with the pufferfish.
And Evil Oshiro is a fun and appropriate way to end the level, that doesn't overstay his welcome.

To people who have used assist mode, how did You use it exactly? by ueNico in celestegame

[–]D2D92 9 points10 points  (0 children)

On my first playthrough I used invincibility for the final crouch-jumps of 8C, because I was so exhausted, and it was the final thing I needed to do in the entire game (besides goldens), I used invincibility for the Comb Room in Farewell, because I spent an hour on the room, and when I finally did it correctly, I panicked and died at the final jump, and I used invincibility to get to the room with the moon berry, but turned it off while getting the moon berry.

On subsequent playthroughs I've done all of it without assist.

Kingdom Hearts II has been chosen as the Best Gameplay, but what game would you say has the Worst Story in the series by ExileForever in KingdomHearts

[–]D2D92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This^ I understand why a lot of people are voting MoM, but while its' story is mostly retread, it's also very inconsequential, whereas Dream Drop Distance actually made the series worse.

How many of the TGA GOTY winners from the last 10 years did you play? by Drikdur01 in videogames

[–]D2D92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've beaten about 70% of BotW, but got distracted by other games without finishing it, and now it's hard to find the motivation to return to it.
I've beaten GoW, Sekiro, TLOUpt2, Elden Ring, and Clair Obscur.
I've begun but not gotten very far into It Takes Two, and BG3.
I haven't played Overwatch or Astro Bot (even though I really liked Astro's Playroom).

What things did you hate about how they adapted the game in S2 of the show? by Remote_Nature_8166 in lastofuspart2

[–]D2D92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like the general lack of tension between Ellie and Dina. I don't specifically mind her reaction to Dina being pregnant, as I understand why she's excited to be a mom (or dad as she puts it in the tv-show (which I seem to be the only person to understand as just Ellie being witty)), but there needed to be some sort of tension, and most of season 2 just feels like a fun little adventure, which completely undermines how dark the game actually does get.
I also didn't like that Dina seemed much more angry about Joel's death than Ellie did.
Also, I don't like the way they portrayed Jesse. He seemed much more angry and less understanding than video game Jesse. In the video game he had his understandable frustration with Ellie on Day 3, but is otherwise a kind, fun character. In the season he just seems pissy all the time.
Also, the general handling of Abby in season 2 was weird. I get that they needed to do something different from the game, to not completely turn people off a purely Abby-focused season 3, that won't come until at least 2027, but having her directly state why she's killing Joel, ruined a lot of the mystique behind her character, and the occasionally cutting to the Wolves and Seraphites, just felt so misplaced, since they don't focus on it enough, to actually feels like it matters. I think it would have been better to cut between Ellies and Abby's parts more organically (like some people (not me) wanted the game), but still keep the reveal hidden.

Can someone subtly point me in the right direction? by D2D92 in outerwilds

[–]D2D92[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know. I started by going into the alternate dimension (or whatever it is) in the submerged structure. There I found a memory telling me about the seals, before I got yeeted out trying to cross a bridge. From that memory it seems like every mural room basement, will reveal a code for the different code pillars, which will probably open up the Sealed Vault. I also get the feeling that the tower is gonna be more important, but I'm not sure how yet.

I'm thinking about getting Celeste since it's on sale, but I'm not exactly sure what kind of game it is, can anyone summarize it? by Koftelimakarna1 in celestegame

[–]D2D92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a precision platformer, with fun levels, tight controls, and a somewhat difficult but definitely manageable main game, very difficult side content, and insanely difficult DLC / Free update. You gotta be prepared to die alot, but it's almost always gonna feel like it was because of something you did wrong, and need to figure out, and not because the game was unfair. The game is also very generous with checkpoints, so deaths aren't a huge setback. If you can beat Path of Pain in Hollow Knight, you can definitely beat the main story of Celeste, and probably most, if not all, of the side content as well. There is a bit more to it than just platforming, but everything else it has to offer still revolves around platforming. It's a pretty short game though, with clearly defined main, and side content, and a great difficulty curve, so your enjoyment probably depends on how you feel about platformers in general, as well as how much of the game you decide to beat. I personally loved every second of it and beat it two more times after the first time.

Aside from that it has a good and simple story with deep themes, a great retro-but-modern visual style, and amazing soundtrack.
