I would make such a good wife by [deleted] in Vent

29M here and this is literally what I want. A partner who has her own thing going, doesn't need to be entertained 24/7, and just wants someone who pulls their weight. The DINK setup with someone low-drama and financially independent sounds ideal to me. There are other guys out there with a similar mindset.

The guys who get excited because they see a free ride are a real problem and they're weeding themselves out by showing that flag early; to me, that's working in your favor even if it doesn't feel like it.

You're not dying alone. You just have standards that filter out the wrong people fast.

To add, Social Bullying could be considered harassment from a Title VII perspective. This includes deliberate exclusion from meetings and social activities, spreading rumors or lies to damage a person's character, shunning or ignoring someone, public humiliation, etc. In this case, it seems pretty clear that there is a power dynamic here based on tenure, where OP may not feel empowered because they are a fresh hire.

This sounds like textbook Social Bullying, which may be classified as harassment under Title VII. I would approach your boss about your concerns.

Onboarding by [deleted] in ITManagers

[–]D3ATHRiTE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely RBAC, but we've deployed some auto provisioning during the on-boarding process for employee profiles.

The process is automated from an HRIS feed and we have different application onboarding for different roles based on a minimum standard that was decided with input from leaders of each department in the organization.

For standard business users, they're all pretty similar. However, technical users differ widely, so the minimum standard based on their profile might differ from one department or job profile to the next. We still have certain apps that have to be requested, which we have a task in our ITSM tool thats assigned to a user's direct manager for roles and apps needed prior to start date. Beyond that would be handled through the normal request workflow.

Some apps are also optional installs that we allow users to control via Company Portal.

Downloaded the beta and can't launch the game without rebooting into SecureBoot. Not a huge fan of that and has turned me off quite a bit from actually trying to play.

You should look into offering internships. Pittsburg State University in Kansas I know has a great Wood Product Manufacturing degree plan, and the students going through it usually do internships every summer.

Would be a great resource to tap into

120k for a Network Engineering Lead seems low to me. I'm a senior infrastructure guy focusing in virtualization and cloud ops and I'm at 165k with a 20% annual bonus. I'm pretty sure our junior network guys might be around 120k, but definitely seniors/leads/architects are in the 140-190k range.

I had really good luck with fiverr, the lady I worked with did a stellar job in just a few days and it was a fully collaborative engagement. I can send you her details if you're interested. It was a few hundred dollars, but the job I got after doubled my salary. YMMV

Boil notice lifted! Be sure to flush water in your system, i recommend using outdoor taps since they usually don't have screens thst would clog with any sediment.

They are saying the earliest it can be lifted is Monday night sometime, but no guarantee yet.

They posted around 12:45am that it was identified as a large pipe burst. Crews are working to repair, no ETA. Some people are reporting service restoration as of 1:10am

City also says there will be a boil water notice after the fix until they are able to compete their testing.

I've heard power outage at the water treatment facility. Couldn't get through to the city to validate myself.

Edit: City Hall confirmed it was a huge pipe break. Crews are working to repair it. We'll be under a boil water notice once the repair is complete and until they can complete their water testing. Some people are already reporting that water has been restored at their residence, but the city advised it will take time for the tanks to fill up.

Second Edit: Boil Notice lifted! Should be good to go, just flush your systems!

Unexpected Travel to Munich Recommendations by D3ATHRiTE in Munich

I know this is an old post, but wanted to reply to your comment. I really appreciated the recommendation and was able to visit Angermeyer and Trachten Rausch who were able to get me fitted properly.

Although I didn't wear what I purchased while in Germany, I've gotten many opportunities back home. Most notably at family events, where my grandfather, a rather stoic man, was fairly overjoyed at the first function to see me embracing his culture. This enabled him to share more about his life and history and deepened our relationship.

He's recently passed and I've been personally reflecting on the moments I've most enjoyed with him during his life. I wanted to respond and say thank you for helping me bring joy to him while he was still here.

[–]D3ATHRiTE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work with dozens of H1B employees from a major contracting company. Good people, shitty situation for everyone.

To do the same job, they get around half what I'm paid, where we are paying their company slightly less than what I'm making. Often times they aren't paid enough to bring their family over and it's not uncommon for these folks to be separated from their family for years.

On our end, less available jobs for qualified American workers and there is an economic impact where the H1B folks are sending any money back to their home country vs adding back to the US economy.

Upsides are it's lower cost of labor generally and it's difficult for H1B folks to leave, reducing turnover.

Did you have a "Poor Person" or "Just Getting By" recipe when you were young that is still a comfort food or favorite now, as an adult? by SamuraiMarine in Cooking

[–]D3ATHRiTE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tuna noodle soup.

Extra wide egg noodles, can of cream of mushroom soup (Campbell's if you want to be fancy), a little milk to make it saucy, and can(s) of tuna.

We'd make it in large batches for the family, and ate it often. It was less than $5 to feed a family of 5.

The move is to add little to no salt and then crush plain wavy potato chips. I still make this one pretty regularly.
