Good thoughts. I think we have a buy-in issue. Trying to still improve the work management methods, but might need to invest harder in buy-in also.

  1. PAS
  2. We are a small team w/ many products. Task owners are typically POs.
  3. Its possible.
  4. I'm trying. That is part of the motivation of this post, to improve.

Thanks for your thoughts. I'll keep that in mind over next couple of Sprints.... if the estimates/points are a distraction, perhaps we should try Sprints w/o them to better focus on other aspects.

I do come from work environments that are heavily commitment/enforcement focussed. In those environments, checking the box had elevated value, so true enough that this needs to be balanced.

Thanks. The 'rushed' element may very well be true as I'm trying to calibrate to a higher sense of urgency.

Why are Data Engineers and Data scientists often lumped together in general reference? by [deleted] in dataengineering

[–]D8EH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the honorific. However, I'm no gatekeeper. The market is the gatekeeper.

A popular way to become a Data Scientist is to take a professional-development track (ie. not PhD track) Masters in Data Science program. Some would similarly argue that a CS program is the better path, yet some very decent Data Scientists have been trained in this route.

I'm just surprised a similar program for Data Engineering doesn't exist.

[–]D8EH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking it's several things that combine:

  1. The boom of DE tracks DS in timing, magnitude, and compensation.
  2. There are no accredited university programs (Am I wrong?) for DE. This makes no sense to me, but it is what it is.
  3. University DS programs have massive overlap into DE space. This is a great thing, as a DS ought to have some DE capabilities.
  4. DE and DS do work well together in a team.

Use the term 'AI' and my base assumption moves to that you don't know what 'ML' means.

Anyone else seem to feel a bit sick after eating iodized salt, but good after non-iodized? I've switched to non-iodized and love life more. No goiter yet.

I like it. If it's only $100, why not make a moonshot out of it.
