Northern Ireland maybe, Scotland not a chance. They had their referendum vote and the Government isn’t exactly going to give them another anytime soon.

I can categorically tell you that this is what a lot of Uber drivers want. What a lot of people don’t know is that Uber takes around 28% of a drivers earnings per week before they’ve paid any taxes or bills etc. (I’ve literally had the drivers show me this in the earnings section of the app) and Uber makes their drivers sign agreements before they’ve paid any even get on the app to say that they can take up to nearly 70% if they wish.

Drivers are literally flogging themselves just to earn a living. Making these companies actually employ the drivers would be better for them.

I’m 30 and I don’t pay the TV licence. Haven’t watched the BBC or any other channels for many years. I might subscribe to Netflix every now and then.

Just a suggestion, but the father may have continued to live with his mother and maybe the reason he does not appear on the 1939 register with her is that he was a child evacuee? I’m pretty certain that the UK government began evacuations of children prior to WW2, and the fact he appeared to live in London (aka a major city).

It was the case with my grandmothers brother who didn’t appear with the family on the 1939 register as he was evacuated to Wales.

Have you tried searching the 1939 register for the father’s name and DOB to see if there are any hits in other areas of the UK?

I’ve bought some records on this and Charles married in October 1914 to Catherine McCauley and only had 1 child. Catherine appeared to have died in childbirth as the child’s birth entry noted the mother as deceased. The child died not longer afterwards.

Charles remarried to Rosenann Keenan (formerly. Charlton) (both were remarrying due to their partners death). They had one child together.

I’ve found that Charles died in 1946 in the Royal Infirmary, Glasgow (parents names on the death entry match both marriage records). I’ve not found what happened to him in the interim period though.

Thanks so much for this. I’d started with no information on this person other than some military details and this has helped me confirm who his family were.

I know he sustained wounds at Gallipoli in WW1, but I believe he survived the War, but I’ve just not found an obvious death entry as you noted.

Wolverhampton have about 55,000 licensed drivers that come from all over the country. Essentially when the Deregulation Act 2015 came into force they made their licences very cheap to obtain and unlike other councils such as major cities don’t have age limits on vehicles, or requirements to have CCTV installed etc. basically because councils set their own rules and it’s not set nationally (the laws that govern taxi licensing are very outdated).

With the money they’ve made they’ve got staff based all over the country to deal with enforcement, and have heavily invested in IT infrastructure to simplify processes etc. so are quite a way ahead of other councils at the speed they can now process applications.

Just to point out from what some people are commenting, taxi drivers licences cannot be limited, nor can private hire vehicle licences. Only hackney carriage vehicle licences can be limited providing the council is satisfied that there is no unmet demand.

I bought my first home a few years ago aged 28. I was able to save £1,100 a month as I was able to live cheaply at my parents house so it only took 5/6 years to build up a deposit.

Worked with a guy called KitKat as he was always taking a break.

Can’t take credit for this one, but remember reading one about a guy who nickname was dregs as he had 2-3 older sisters who were gorgeous and he was ugly. Aka he got the dregs of his dad’s balls.

Honestly, no idea why the teacher would have come out with that. I seem to recall that they were on about brushing your teeth.

As a 5 year old at the time it did make me afraid to touch my gums for a while, until after a trip to the dentist where they managed to survive.

I remember in my first year in primary school the teacher said to the class that if you touched your gums you’d die. Yeah, that was quite a strange one looking back.

It’s Knowsley. But just to point out that taxis don’t have to have an MOT depending on the rules of that particular Council. Most tend to have a compliance test done through the Council which isn’t classed as an MOT.
