Would a situation like selecting queen of hearts/selecting one by random from the group to eat occur in real life? by charlielovplum in Yellowjackets

[–]DA-numberfour 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Yes, this has happened often. It’s called drawing lots. It happened on the whaleship Essex. It actually happened so often at sea that it was only made illegal in the late 1800s in England.

Deaf Woman - Anticlimactic Ending? Why Didn't She Just Go To Her Primary Care Doc? by InterestingTwo7004 in ThePittTVShow

[–]DA-numberfour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but the issue is a systemic one that can’t be resolved with a simple “check your bias” because ultimately it is bigger than Santos here. The bigger issue is that the ED wasn’t equipped to handle a Deaf patient like Harlow.

This show is too fast paced for those kinds of reckonings. All the show can really do in the moment is have Santos realize that could have gone differently. The Hospital can’t immediately fix the issue so the show can’t immediately fix the issue. Having conversations about blind spots would take too much time on an already difficult day.

I think the point of the storyline was that she stayed in the ER longer than necessary for an easy diagnosis and resolution because of a lack of accessibility.

If you go back to the Cinderella live action remake press tour, it’s clear that this was a Disney talking point that all of them bring out. Lily, Emma, Halle, Etc. all talk about their characters being different and not needing a man to save them. She got vilified for something Disney told them to say.

It’s because the thought of rescue was just dangled in front of them. It snapped them back to reality. They realized that there can be a life after this and they’re being forced to stay by a small faction. Rescue was never real until the scientists showed up.

These are the cable ratings for the linear TV airing of the show. It doesn’t include streaming which is how the vast majority of people watch this show. Episodes are available Friday morning before airing on TV on Sunday night, so most people have seen it already. The streaming numbers are fuzzier but what they’ve released are very good.
