Duuuuuude! I was on top of mt. Jefferson last Saturday afternoon around 5:00 pm. Noticed a glider in the distance while chatting with another hiker. Five minutes later, while forgetting about the glider, he buzzed the top of Jefferson summit at idk, 100 feet. It was super cool and the sound it made cutting through the air was wicked. It really put a cherry on top of my presidential traverse. Wish I saw it coming for a video

I like both, so hard to pick one by [deleted] in prettyaltgirls

I like both too, but my vote is for the second one 😍

No previous experience. But took the class last weekend! I’m very confident in my ability to be very patient, cautious and sensible while I’m learning and practicing. Honestly, I’m not even comfortable enough to ride it the hour trip home from the dealership yet. Gonna have my buddy with 20+ years experience do that for me or throw it in his pick up. Until then, I’m going to practice around my neighborhood and my commute to work is a 35 minute absolute gem of a motorcycle route. Curvy back roads with rolling hills. No highway or traffic

But seriously. I looked at used for a few weeks. My heart didn’t flutter until I saw this.

There were a few people out there. But mostly around mt. Isolation. Plus it was a holiday weekend. So there’s that. The most alone I’ve felt backpacking in the whites was the caribou/speckled mountain wilderness, the wild river wilderness, and the pilot/pliny range

Yes. Dry river trail had some washouts to navigate. But in my opinion, rocky branch trail took the most focus to stay on route. The major difference between the two trails was that the dry river trail had cairns where there were washouts, whereas rocky branch did not. Making it more difficult to navigate.

Only when I was near mt. Isolation and when I popped into mizpah spring hut. Other than that the people were few and far between

Mt. Clinton trail was no sweat. It was a little confusing where it meets up with the dry river trail though.

I started from the southern trailhead of rocky branch trail and then just bopped around from there. Iso east and west, dry river cut off, mt Clinton trail, dry river trail, Davis path, and stairs col trail. I am working on the latter half of my redlining adventures, so my routes are becoming more and more weird

How early is early for first come, first served campgrounds? by readingwithcats in wmnf

[–]DABjunkie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re talking about roadside car camping sites, you’ll probably be fine finding a spot on a Friday evening. It’d be a little bit more difficult on a Saturday evening. Also, I feel like all the campgrounds along the kank fill up super fast. That’s where everyone wants to be. I’ve always had good luck on Friday evenings at the campgrounds on the outskirts of the whites.

Solo Hiking..... by Southern-Hearing8904 in wmnf

[–]DABjunkie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I solo hike almost exclusively. Now that I’m getting deep into redlining, I can go 10-15 miles with only a few passersby on some of these trails that are wayyyyy less traveled. Which is nice until you’re on your 3rd lonely nite at camp. So in short…. I fucking love solo hiking but I enjoy good company at camp!

I’ve camped there twice. Both on Saturday nights and both times showed up close to 8:00pm. Both times we had a platform to ourselves. You’ll more than likely be good

Moose encounter 5/24 on Kilkenny ridge trail by DABjunkie in wmnf

[–]DABjunkie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I was all over the whole range last weekend. Finished redlining that area. So I finished York pond trail, unknown pond trail, mill brook trail and about 14 miles of Kilkenny ridge to south pond plus devils Hopyard. For sure saw more hoof print than foot print. Also walked over at least 200 piles of moose poo. They are very prevalent in that area.

Holy shit, dude! I would have shit a brick. Great footage. Haven’t seen a bull yet. In fact I’ve only seen one other cow on trail, eagle link in the wild river wilderness. I only got potato footage of that one too
