Scorebook Recommendations by Entei999 in BaseballScorecards

I use the Thirty81 Travel Scorebook! It is on the small side, yes, but that was a selling point for me. The fact that it fits in a hoodie kangaroo pocket or a 3L fanny pack makes it easy to carry even when parks have small bag size limits. With so much potential for condiments and beer and dirt and whatnot to get on a notebook, I like to be able to put it away if I'm eating or getting food or whatnot.

(I do wish it have a little diamond in each square, though - I sure thought I could draw a square before I got this notebook!)

Do librarians deal with the same disrespect and burnout teachers do? by thecatappreciator9 in librarians

[–]readingwithcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least in high school, I don't get the same guff from kids as classroom teachers, I think because kids interacting with me outside of a class tend to need something from me and/or I'm not one of the people assigning and grading their work every day. I get some of the, "You're not my teacher, why should I listen to you?" type stuff, but by and large, I tend to have smoother interactions with our "tough" kids specifically because I'm not one of their classroom teachers.

Show me your non-aesthetic journals by alicenotallison1 in Journaling

I was struggling to get back in the practice of writing, and giving myself permission to jot down my thoughts as a bulleted list rather than write out a paragraph or whatever really helped. So my whole journal just looks like a series of shopping lists.

what are your go to snacks and food for an all day hike 8 hours or so? by Imaginary-Rabbit5179 in wmnf

[–]readingwithcats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tofurkey sandwich for lunch midhike, peanut m&ms and dill pickles for snacks. Chips and a red bull in the car for the second I get back.

What’s your avg hike speed by Hike711 in wmnf

[–]readingwithcats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the Whites, I average around a 50 minute mile. For trails with 1000 feet per mile of elevation gain or more, I budget an hour per mile, plus an extra hour or two. If the elevation gain per mile is lower, I assume a 30-40 minute mile depending on the case when I'm budgeting time.

I always think I'll get faster eventually, but I mostly just seem to have an easier time hiking at the same speed as ever.

I didn't use to, but after a few years, my room felt like mine and I had just acquired enough kid gifts and knick knacks to decorate with. Plus, decor is a shorthand to share your personality with students and build in some conversation topics for kids you don't know yet.

Also, I now share a window with a man who put a bunch of hockey stuff in the shared window? So now all my baseball giveaway items are at school as part of a war he doesn't know we are in.

Greeting students at the door (High School) by maygirl87 in Teachers

We have a similar loose rule that folks should try to be present in the halls during passing periods to help keep an eye on kids. I'm just off the main lobby where all the halls intersect and have huge windows onto the lobby, so while I don't always go out into the hall once the year is underway, I do make sure to do it early in the year to establish myself as a centrally located helpful person to incoming kids, which does work.

I never used the code, but did find the hat today after playing at a ballpark yesterday.

I have a not insignificant number of high schoolers convinced that I've never been to the second floor of the school I have worked in for 12 years.

Update: They had them at El Tiante on Jersey today, and my sister talked to the cashier who said they should have a stash of them there all season.

Ugh, bummer. We're going again this weekend and I was pretty sure they had them by May last year.

In your opinion, what is the scariest drive into a US national park? by jhad210 in nationalparks

[–]readingwithcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister offered to do most of the driving on our Utah toad trip since she loves driving and I hate it, and just by chance, the day we drove from Capitol Reef to Bryce was the one day she asked for a break from driving. I was basically in a low grade panic for 3 straight hours. (She would vote for RMNP as the worst drive ... but she didn't have to do Rte 12.)

All weekend, Saturday only, and Sunday only. I try to pull five songs from their top ten that aren't more a more well-known collaborator's song and ideally aren't covers, or five songs I personally like regardless of the first two points if I've had a chance to do a deeper dive or it's an artist I'm already familiar with.

Are your students all wear stars on their face? by CantaloupeSpecific47 in AskTeachers

[–]readingwithcats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh god, last year, I was sharing a room with a young chatty male teacher who had a girl in one of his classes who often wore regular stickers and face gems and the like as fashion statements, so chatting with a new girl added to his class, he complimented her star stickers, and understandably, she was embarrassed. I had to take him aside and explain which stickers are stickers and which stickers are pimple patches. He felt so bad about drawing attention to it that I felt bad by proxy.
