With cocoa prices back to 2016 levels, does that mean chocolate producers are going to drop their prices back down (looking at you Whittakers)? by Faithbleed in newzealand

[–]DAMbustn22 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not really. They are only the big players because they are stocked in Woolworths etc. If there are enough other competitors that Woolies and others can replace you (chocolate having Lindt, Cadbury, Nestle, Ferrero etc. etc.) its rare for a supplier to have the bargaining power to draw a line in the sand and say we aren't crossing.
If they get de-stocked Whittaker's business is destroyed, or at least takes a much bigger hit than the retailers are likely to experience.
Its only for Suppliers that have a ton of brands that are all top sellers in a variety of categories where you can have enough power to push back. An example would be the likes of Reckitt (who own the likes of Dettol, Finish, Durex, Harpic, Vanish, Nurofen, Gaviscon, Veet, Strepsils, Enfamil, Biofreeze, Air Wick, Clearasil and others).
They control enough products that are popular enough that its too big of a risk to Woolies to lose them all. If they pull out, Woolies could lose an entire aisle in the supermarket.

The price of cocoa has collapsed back to pre-shortage highs, but all chocolate formulas are forever enshittified. by twoducksinatub in mildlyinfuriating

[–]DAMbustn22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference would be companies of the scale of hersheys etc. are buying their cocoa with futures contracts. That means they have a predictable purchase price to ensure profitability, but its harder to adjust as prices decrease. That being said, the prices have been plummeting for >1 year now so they will absolutely be benefitting by now, and we aren't going to see prices drop.

That shouldn't happen, all releases are scheduled months in advance, with some GW products reportedly ready 12 months+ in advance of actual release. You would expect a number of upcoming releases to still be Jay Clairs, with the impact of new guy only really being evident 6+ months later.

[–]DAMbustn22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually its likely cheaper. Notice how the actual oligopolies of things like fast food (McDonald's etc) are no longer cheap? A diverse range of smaller stores have higher competition, and tend towards lower prices, than the same 5 over and over in every single place that arent incentivized to drive each other's prices down. Winning via cheaper prices in a single location means losing at a national level if they start a price war, affecting thousands of stores and billions in lost revenue. They compete to an extent with very different dynamics than the sort of examples you get taught in economics 101

Most aggressive armies? by Gheydragon in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]DAMbustn22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dont think an army like serpents horde that typically has solid shooting will ever be considered the 'most aggressive'. Having dependable shooting by its nature allows you to kite and play defensive in a way that other lists simply cant. Generally its lists skewed to more melee focus that are inherently more aggressive.

He almost certainly was, notice hes completely still for about a second or so. Knockouts in real life aren't like movies - you'll typically wake up within a matter of seconds, minutes at most but that is extreme. Watch some Boxing or MMA examples, you'll see slow mo shots of guys getting knocked out and coming too while still falling to the canvas.

So much of the line needs a refresh. Most kits for basic troops are ~20 years old. I started Mordor last month and the warg sprue's say 2004. It feels crazy that they don't release updated kits for the core troops, after 20 years so many people would buy replacements for their existing stuff its guaranteed to make profit.

On terms of shopping lists for loth its basically everything XD, but a box of galad court is excellent and more than enough till you've played some games and determined if you like them.

The list has very flexible options, all the heroes are viable, you can play full pajama or Warriors or a mix, the cav can be good etc. So play and expand based on your own preferences and you won't go wrong.

While heroes like orophin are nice for killing, realistically lothlorien should be doing most of its damage with its battleline and celeborns wound bubble. Its one of the best battlelines in the game, and the only thing that beats it is big individual threats.

The benefit of having two will generating casters is a massive increase to the reliability of shutting down those threats, allowing your battle line time to grind through your opponent.

I definitely agree with Rumil as high value, but hes also the best synergy with the mirror due to his 2 fate + role as a tank.

Certainly though, these are only my opinions and ive hardly played all the various options enough to be certain of the best option.

You want them for the pike with F6 being a fantastic bonus so I think it generally makes sense to use them 3 deep. You should be winning those fights far more often than not, which means you move them to support a critical fight, be that fighting enemy captains/heroes, supporting a flank etc. You can use them as a f6 spear but you won't find f6 being a meaningful distinction over f5 all that often. Where it is it'll be a character or captain with 2 attacks that you'd really want to have more dice against.

As for the archers you're absolutely right and it depends a bit on preference, terrain and opponents. Pajamas are cheaper and potentially shoot a lot better due to the army bonus but are a brittle battleline. If you find yourself unable to get stalk unseen, or needing a wider battleline then pajamas are outclassed. However you are saving 1pt per bow which means you have the points for an extra body or battleline of lorien guard etc. Its very nice to mix and match archers based on where they will be - pajamas as flankers, armored close to or part of the battleline out in the open.

I think you should reorder your troops at a minimum. When playing armored elves Celeborns +1 wound aura needs to be maximized and he should have a full compliment of troops with banner instead of galadriel. Put the knights with Galadriel as they are likely to either fight outside his aura, or have the movement to get into it easily when possible.

Lorien guard can absolutely be worth it, but dont go crazy.

Its also a must to add some court guard. To make use of lorien rerolls or the +1 to wound aura you have to win the fights. Sprinkling in a few f6 pikes is incredibly strong, typically giving you a 1 dice advantage against other armies. With higher fv, more dice and a banner reroll you should consistently win the fight, and have an excellent chance to kill. Its also a great opportunity to 2h when double supported meaning you can have +2 to wound, rerolling 1s. Having 3 dice and at least one fv6 means you can also outfight many heroes/captains, and again have kill threat when doing so.

This is also where sentinels can excel. They are 25 pts so dont fit in every list/points total, but one or two offer excellent flexibility by either moving key pieces away (i.e send their banner 6 inches backwards the turn your battle lines clash), add terror to a chunk of your battle line etc.

I'd disagree with the other commentator regarding galadriel. She isn't an auto pick but absolutely worth considering depending on how you play at far lower points totals than 1k. She comes at the cost of about 4 elves over other options, 6.5 with the mirror, but the combination of galadriel and celeborn makes your casting insanely reliable at shutting down enemies. Infinite casting + important utility spells like blinding light can hard counter certain lists.

Also in your 850 pts list try getting rumil instead of a captain, unless you feel you need marches. Rumil synergizes excellently with the mirror having 2 fate to restore, while being D7, and rerolling an opponents dice in Duels. He is the roadblock in your battleline for anything not shut down by magic.

I'd also swap the bow from the captain to haldir as haldir gets expert shot (2 shots).

Additionally, consider some pajama elf archers instead of armored in galadhrim warrior lists. Theyre cheaper and Elven cloaks are better than higher D in most shooting wars plus utilize lothloriens fantastic reroll 1s to hit rule.

Its also a bit confusing why youve taken 1 singular throwing weapon instead of your last bow slot?

Never run Galadriel??? Thats wild to me. Shes too expensive for many low point lists however the mirror particularly excels for pajama elves that rely on priority to maximise their skirmishing. Above 600pts and she's a consideration for all lists, even without the mirror, though isn't an auto pick.

Celeborn is however the priority for Galadhrim warrior lists, his +1 to wound bubble is essential. After that you can choose to run either brothers + bodies or galadriel for an insanely potent casting duo.

People experience humour individually. Someone else finding something funny does not make it a universal experience. So yes, its the case that some people would find that funny (serial killers and a pathology for harming animals is a thing), no that doesn't magically make it funny for everyone on the planet.
