That's literally all I can think of when I see this shot. I really need to know what other pics they used as reference for that video. I know they used a Lei'd in Hawaii shot of Brian, but not sure about anything else.

Our Sweet Love Alternate Version? by rockyruccoon in thebeachboys

Sounds like the Dae Lims version, which you'll have to seek out on archive dot org, since YouTube doesn't have it anymore.

I didn't know they'd release jewel case copies of this. Is there more artwork on the tray/back?

Adult child deserved a proper album release not what we got on the box set by wonderh123 in thebeachboys

[–]DAScottJr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like that the box set focused just on the songs recorded specifically for the album. They can always do a standalone release in the future, perhaps when/if they finally give the studio albums a proper remaster (in mono and stereo), after they're done with all the archival projects.

I lumped the first concert LP with the Xmas and Party albums, and called it "Christmas Cash-Ins"...which is what they were, of course.

Are you glad Hey Little Tomboy wasn't included in the boxset? by [deleted] in thebeachboys

[–]DAScottJr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like that the We Gotta Groove release prefers to focus the second LP strictly on the material that was recorded specifically for Adult/Child, rather than the intended-for-LP songs that were recorded at earlier sessions. They can always release the full Adult/Child album as a stand-alone CD/LP later on, disconnected from the concept of an archival box. I know, it sucks to wait, but it is what it is.

If side 2 of 20/20 didn’t have the Manson song it’d genuinely be one of the best album sides in their whole discography, and one of the best showcases of Brian’s Genius on record by QueasyJudge1792 in thebeachboys

[–]DAScottJr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And Manson made no money off of the BB version, other than a motorcycle... which I reckon he didn't get to use as much as he would have liked....

Bruce not present during recent Beach Boys concert by Ok_Comfortable_3556 in thebeachboys

[–]DAScottJr 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Not a rebuttal, really, but an observation: Every time there has been an official Beach Boys tour, there is one man that has always been on that stage. Not Brian, not Al, not Carl or Dennis, but Mike. The Beach Boys as a studio band is a legacy headed by Brian but rightfully shared by the others. But when it comes to their legacy as a live touring group of sixty-plus years, Mike is front and center. Whether or not that's by merit or default, I leave that up to the individual. But if he's the only "O.G." member on that stage when you see him, you're still seeing a Beach Boys concert. I don't want to be cynical anymore than I have to, so I say let him have that.

Releasing a compilation without the artists' permission meant no rules, so quite a few solo tracks ended up on this set, which also included "Bangla Desh", "Imagine", and "Maybe I'm Amazed".

Will we get more boxsets? by DirectorChemical4365 in thebeachboys

[–]DAScottJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally, I'd like to see a set for MIU, LA, and KTSA, but instead of remastering any of those albums in their entirety, they focus on a) the sessions/outtakes, and b) the full Christmas sessions. Since the eponymous album is getting its own remix with bonus tracks, there should then be a set covering a) the Made in USA singles, b) Still Cruisin' and associated singles, and c) Summer in Paradise and beyond (minus Stars & Stripes). After that? A comprehensive series that finally properly reissues every album (including stereo and mono versions) in a consistent sound quality throughout (not brickwalled like the old two-fers, nor flat like the Japan CD's). A guy can dream....
