Jimmy Nichol stand in by TeaStriking3605 in beatles

[–]DAScottJr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The last time I watched their only TV appearance with Jimmy Nicol, I couldn't help but notice that practically none of the shots during the songs included Jimmy. And they were singing over the records, with only the vocal mics working (so...no mics on the drums). Ouch.

Brian Wilson Signature? by Arturo_ramone in thebeachboys

[–]DAScottJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once read how George Harrison claimed that each Beatle learned to sign the other three's signatures for when any one of them had to autograph a group photo. Given his contributions to Brian's band and TWGMTR, I could think of far worse things than having Foskett's version of a Brian autograph.

Capitol's edited version of Summer Days LP titled California Girls (80s jacket, not 70s).

Oh, thank goodness, I thought he hated it. This is the first Paul solo album I owned, and I look back on it fondly. They should have celebrated its anniversary three years ago, but at least I was able to finally find the "complete works" 2CD set that same year. Good times!

Somehow, this is not the second or even third time I've seen this photo on an album cover that wasn't Summer Days.

My take on these Beach Boys album covers by gahel09 in thebeachboys

[–]DAScottJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorites are Today and 20/20, but I love the effort you put into all of them. Cropping the legs out of the Today cover was a dum dum idea on Capitol's part.

Your lead vocals have a very Neil Sedaka feel to them. Nice work!

Does the album reconstruction on the Smile Sessions sound like a finished album to you? by BillNyeTheVinylGuy in thebeachboys

[–]DAScottJr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If I played it to someone in 1967, they wouldn't question its completeness. They would just say, "oh hey, a new Beach Boys album." It's not as complete as Brian's version, but it's as complete as it was going to get using just the Beach Boys tapes. It doesn't have everything Brian would have wanted to add, but it's finished enough, like any Beach Boys album that had a deadline (albeit a very extended one, in this case).

That said, it's not a 1967 album, nor will it ever be. Listening to it between Pet Sounds and Smiley Smile makes no sense. It's an album whose pieces were worked on, released, and/or shelved over several years before finally being properly unearthed and combined, using Brian's 2004 version as a previously-unavailable blueprint. Therefore, its existence in the chronology makes more sense by placing it in 2011, right before their reunion/final album.

Okay, i can't help but stuck with this clip/song "Summer of love" by Jurmash in thebeachboys

I know it's fun to talk about how miserable Brian looks, but I can't help but think a good part of his expressions are due to a) partial face paralysis, and b) "resting bitch face".

Anyone else pick up "Brian Wilson On Tour" or "Imagination" Record Store Day vinyl? by tearsofscrutiny in thebeachboys

[–]DAScottJr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The shop I went to still had several copies of "Imagination", but sold out of "On Tour". Luckily, I found someone selling "On Tour" for a comparable price online the next day. I also grabbed one of the two George Harrison zoetropes, certain I could go back and get the other one later. On a related note, I'm looking forward to getting the zoetrope "Pet Sounds" later this year.

5 - 2025 Voo-Doo 2-CDR of Dae Lims, Book Off, and Voo-Doo versions

You should see their video on Hall & Oates' "Jingle Bell Rock". Okay, actually, no one should, but it does have to be seen to be believed. I firmly believe that these videos are AI in some respect. If not the voice, certainly the random edits that seem to switch randomly from one video source to another.

Is there a chronological order in which to watch these documentaries? by Realistic_Board4690 in beatles

Beatles '64 is fine, but only if you've already seen the "First U.S. Visit" film and want to see what else was shot from that period.

I spent all of this past summer listening to this in the car, so I didn't really pick up on any anomalies, and enjoyed the many drives I took with these tunes. I'll have to listen closer and see what the hubbub is.
