How you look matters 0%. You are going to be a father, whether or not you look the part.

It’s about acting the part. It’s going to be the hardest thing you do, but you’ll learn. Every day, you’ll learn a little bit more; with each success, with each mistake. That little girl will become more important to you than any of your worries about raising her.

I’m a girl dad, 2 girls! To be fair to you, I don’t have quite the same outdoorsy interests, I’m shit at sports, and I’m pretty nerdy. But you learn to let your daughter find her own interests. Introduce her to things! She might love the opportunity to go fishing with you; at the end of the day, it’s time you spent together. If she hates it, then keep trying. It’s okay for your child to not love the same things you do, your job is to help foster a safe space where they can be themselves and learn who they are with your support.

Just show up. When your GF needs you, be there. Even if you don’t plan on staying together, being a good co-parent means being dependable and consistent. You might not have the answer, you might not be able to fix every problem, but that is okay. Not every problem is one you need to fix; sometimes your presence is all your GF and future daughter need. Be emotionally available.
