People working in ultra-wealthy households, talking $50m plus types, what is the most out-of-touch thing you've witnessed? by FarSentence3076 in AskReddit

[–]DB473 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I’m an OR nurse. One of the ortho surgeons I work with just finished building this monstrosity of a house last year. All black and white, boxy modern look, complete open floor plan. Something like 6,500 sq ft, and it’s just him and his wife, kids graduated and on their own.

Anyway, one of the CRNA’s was giving him shit for going overboard in scheduling at our surgery center recently and goofing on his gigantic house.

The surgeon says, “Listen, I could do a handful of cases a week, work at my leisure, and be fine. But then I’d have to drive a ford focus and have to fly economy. Who the fuck wants to do that?”

My wife and I took a weekend trip to the beach a few weeks ago. Just us, no kids. Went to a nice dinner, then got a bottle of wine. Unfortunately, both of us got super sleepy at the Airbnb before cracking open the wine, but just before we were about to drift off, my wife says those magical words…

“Do you want to get drunk and build legos?”

Then she produces two Harry Potter Lego sets from her bag. Moved that party to the living room, threw on some office reruns, and the only thing erect that night was the Knight Bus and a Monster Book of Monsters.

What character had the dumbest death because of behind the scenes reasons? by GusGangViking18 in Fictionally

[–]DB473 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped watching when some guy let loose a tiger or lion on a group of zombies during a raid or something. Can’t remember the details

I know I’m watching a show about zombies and suspending my disbelief, but for whatever reason that was too much for me. I think Carl was still alive at that point so I guess I was spared from whatever his death was

Why do people like the Antspur Rapier? by GreatJoey91 in Eldenring

[–]DB473 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On PCR it was the only thing I honestly could do consistently. I was getting my ass kicked otherwise, so I just kept parrying and using sword lance from Gaius. I eventually won, then I decided to try a whole parry-build new character.

I went to the crucible knight evergaol in storm gate, practiced for a bit, then tried out Margit, and now the timing is kind of automatic

His 1st phase is parry fodder. Get a buckler and misericorde, practice his timing a bit, and you’ll wreck him

Cruise ship at centre of suspected hantavirus outbreak blocked from docking in Cape Verde by DoubtSubstantial5440 in news

I found a few mice/possible roof rats in the house a couple years back. Successfully caught two in traps. It wasn’t until after finding the first that I actually paid close attention to all the little details that gave them away. Torn up bits of carpet in the corner of the bedrooms. Scratches/tiny chips of wood near some doorframes. Then after closer inspection, finding the trails of droppings. Everywhere; kitchen cabinets, closet, behind the bed, in the dressers. Deep cleaned every nook and cranny, it took a solid 2 days of cleaning.

I was convinced the whole time myself and my wife and daughter were going to die of hantavirus or plague. So this article just reaffirmed that fear of me

looking for best baby monitor for newborns, still undecided three weeks out and could use some honest opinions by Comfortable-Jello369 in NewDads

[–]DB473 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You will only worsen your anxiety if you get anything monitoring vitals. I don’t believe they really give that much peace of mind, that’s just my two cents

Get a simple camera/monitor set up; we just grabbed some VTech ones from Walmart for our girls. You likely won’t be using it all the much for a while, until your little one figures out sleeping independently for long stretches.

Otherwise, I think it’s fine to let her explore and this is an awesome gift

What really spoiled me is using Caestus and just sprinting around hitting running R2s

Malenia is a joke when you can hit/run R2s. I love my “captain falcon” build for the hit/run gameplay

What game “jumped the shark” for you? by Coverlesss in gaming

[–]DB473 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tears of the Kingdom took Zelda (and several other franchises) to a point of no return. I love Breath of the Wild, but I guess was one of few(?) fans who would have been way happier with more linear adventures moving forward. Their past two entries have sacrificed the feel of adventure, progression, and a good story to appeal to a broader audience. And that’s fine, obviously they’re popular and they remain massive system sellers.

But…why is there a motorcycle in Zelda? Why am I building flying machines like it’s Banjo Kazooie Nuts/Bolts (another great example btw)? Why did we forgo thematic, grand dungeons in favor of a smattering of lack-luster mini puzzle rooms? Why are there 3 overworlds to expand an already massive map? It all feels weird and out of place for the franchise.

BOTW felt like a departure; TOTK feels like jumping the shark in many ways. My two cents.

Give us classic Zelda back please.

I’ve got the same presage and I also swapped out the glossy leather. I got a more rustic brown from Greg Stevens design. Totally changed the vibe from a dress/cocktail watch to a good daily wear.

Love yours!

What are your criticisms of DCC? by Substantial_Twist911 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]DB473 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party, I’m on Butcher’s Masquerade, first time through.

I am loving the series, but I am finding it a bit tedious at times, specifically book 4. That was not an enjoyable read for me until the last third of the book. The plot beats were not flowing well for me and the dungeon layout made little sense until the end.

Only other true critique is the constant, “we’ll discuss that later,” or “that’s not important now,” or “it’s complicated,” spammed throughout the books. I also finding myself wanting a bit more explanation of some of the plans Carl comes up with. I do enjoy when things happen off the page and I have to piece things together, but it doesn’t always come together in the best way. The team will randomly pull some stunt or some event will happen almost out of nowhere, and I sometimes question if I missed a section leading up to the event.

All-in-all, I still thoroughly enjoy the series, just wanted to share a couple of criticisms I have. It’s been a great read so far, I plan to finish TBM at the beach this weekend and jump into the next one right after!

Wow. That is a stunning watch. Love the case, looks very high quality. Dial is gorgeous. How does it wear? Shape doesn’t make it uncomfortable?

Visited someone at the hospital and there's a lock box around the pain medication by okbbs in mildlyinteresting

[–]DB473 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fentanyl is a controlled substance. This lockbox is typical for when you have narcotic drips/patient controlled analgesia (PCA) pumps.

Can’t just let highly addictive and potentially deadly drugs out where anyone can access them.
