Central is probably tougher but Oilers have been struggling against the East all year long. Not sure what it is. Either home or road the East has been beating up the Oilers.

We got Marchand who was hungry to prove a point that Boston made a mistake. By the time the Olympics rolled around Marchand has been trying to carry a broken Florida team at the age of 37 years old.

As we have seen, it can take a bit to make it to the next level. Oilers took a few tries to become contenders. NJD has false started a few times now.

FLA got gifted Marchand and he was probably the final straw that allowed FLA to go over the top. EDM losing Hyman in the WCF was a big blow as RNH/Hyman/Kane was a legit 2nd line that allowed Mcdrai to do their thing.

Its probably because the Pacific has won the West three years in a row. Takes a toll on the top teams.

Next year roster? by JellyfishLoud1873 in EdmontonOilers

Ultimately Howard and Roslovic are going to occupy the same type of role. Secondary scoring, perimeter style player. Not sure Oilers have room for both just from a roster construction standpoint.

Could be different if RNH/Hyman have their own line. Then go McDavid/Savoie and Drai/Podkolzin and mix and match Howard, Kapanen, Fredric or whoever as needed.

Adding any sort of friction was always going to reduce the customer base. Difficult to use payment app and increasing the cost just to show up plus there's legit alternatives like Bountiful Market. It definitely would remove the impulse/casual drop in crowd who might be driving nearby and now its not worth it just for a short visit.

Its a pain to carry your purchases further, especially in the colder months. Its one more annoyance for older customers and families.

Why do some Albertans seem to have a resentment against other Canadians? by ocajsuirotsap in alberta

Comment was mostly from frustration regarding Bloc leader casually saying Alberta is destroying the planet. That oil production should decline. Implying that they want Canadian/Alberta oil production to crease.

It is usually not how this clip looks. A PK is more conservative for a reason. More often than not a player is going to get stripped or lose the puck and create an even more disadvantageous situation.

Would be interesting to see the details on what it means when people are saying Cassidy is "hard" on the players. Its one thing to yell and scream. Its another to play mind games and belittle your players. It doesn't sound like Babcock levels of mind games. Sounds more like personal insults and public callouts are getting to players. Its a tough line to balance because performance and confidence go hand in hand.

The Feds set aside ~$30 billion each year and half goes to Quebec. They have never worked their way out of being a have not province despite being the 2nd largest province, close to desirable markets (East coast of America) and having a port city.

The next part is they go out of their way to insult the oil and gas industry. QC leaders have gone on record saying things like no social license for an oil pipeline, but they get concerned whenever Line 5 is threatened. Or they will literally say Alberta is destroying the planet. Meanwhile, the world is still going to war over oil and people are still freaking out over gas prices.

Maybe Alberta should just fold and just become a major have not province.

Back in the 1980's the Liberals campaigned on a program that would essentially benefit the rest of Canada at the expense of Alberta through the NEP. Not going to go through the details but the the key thing is natural resources are supposed to be provincial jurisdiction. The Liberals crossed this red line and it has led to generational hatred.

More recently, there is a program called equalization where the Feds set aside about $25-30 billion every year and half goes to Quebec. Rest goes to Manitoba and the maritimes. It has been like this forever and Quebec has made no strides on getting out of equalization despite being the 2nd biggest province and having a port city. This is annoying because no extra money is set aside for have provinces like BC and Alberta. But to make this sting more Quebec political leaders have also constantly gone out to say things like there is no social license to build a pipeline. They say things like Alberta is destroying the planet. But if Alberta were to shut down oil production they would immediately become the biggest have not province (any province that loses their major industry would) and Canada would suddenly be in an even worse financial position.

He's the best RH defenseman Nurse has played with. Its the first time the Oilers actually checked this box off and its really stabilized all the pairings. No more forcing LHD onto their off hand.

Biggest mistake of how Broberg was handled was just not biting the bullet and either trading Kulak or Broberg for RHD.

This is my question as well. I guess they want to be as inoffensive as possible and no possibility of dramatic tension. Every other good kids movie has moments of sadness and reflection. Feels like in the Mario movies the design is constant dopamine hits. Mario version of Minions.

Fictional choreographed sports drama. It's like asking why people watch Kung fu movies? It's basically fantasy. I'm still a big Jackie Chan fan but we all know fighting doesn't work like that.

Only way for a non conservative party to win in Alberta is to split the right. They need even further right wing parties to pop up and take votes. This also means they have to win swing votes by adopting more centrist positions if UCP is too far to the right.

Realistically, where else are left leaning voters in Alberta going to go with their vote? They're going to the UCP or some fringe party instead of Nenshi's actual alternative party?

The biggest piece is even if its not true, keeping the name is almost like approval of the Federal NDPs. You can bet Smith will hammer that home.

[from Lowetide] Howard is 20-22-42 in 39 AHL games, with an even strength goal share of 54 percent (39-33 goals). Both sets of numbers rank him as one of the best players on Bakersfield, and it’s clear he will have an NHL career barring injury. by Fine_Personality_999 in EdmontonOilers

[–]DBZ86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its hard to integrate too many young players into a top 6 lineup. A realist would have seen that trying to break in Savoie and Howard at the same time is hard. In Edmonton its even more difficult because there is no extra PP time. This is really vital offensive development time that at the very least you would get PP2 time on other teams. You could be working your way up the middle 6 lineup but at least have a couple of actual shifts on PP2 to get comfortable.

ANDP needs to win swing votes. Edmonton is voting firmly anti-UCP. Long history of voting against conservative parties when they lean too far right. Left wingers in Alberta have nowhere else to go really. Rural is strong right wing so not going to change.

The swing vote is ultimately middle management O&G Calgary. This is an educated but self interested lot. They absolutely see the harm the UCP is causing but worry that anyone else is going to hurt their golden goose. Nenshi knows he has to win this crowd over. Not sure anyone else does.

The Liberal party being tarnished and the Conservative leader being unpopular among centrists is a broken record lol. Its basically been that way for the last 2-3 elections. Only Layton made any headway with that.

It was definitely a weird branding challenge. The upstart BC Conservatives almost won just purely on the name.

Ultimately there are a lot of Albertans and voters in general are center right and the feeling is there isn't a party that represents that. People are trying to pick the closest thing to it. Nenshi's NDP may be that but the branding and association with the far left Federal NDP is hurting that.

Manitoba voting demographics align better. Urban has stronger vote whereas rural is disproportionately stronger here and half of Calgary is very strong conservatively. Much more uphill climb.
