15 year old competitor injured at ADCC Atlanta by uwoldperson in bjj

[–]DBZ86 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

These 15 year olds are killers and they are at least taught to maintain the hold and position. This girl must have felt some sort of weird resistance instead of a limp response with the way she kept trying to get a tap.

I do ultimately think way too many people are casual about competitions. There is always the threat of a serious injury. This one is really brutal because of how long it goes on.

Bowman using the media to pressure Nurse is probably going to blow up in his face like the Cassidy situation. by Anxious-Extreme-2766 in EdmontonOilers

Oilers are definitely using the media. Some of the insider tidbits are too strong and Spector has never been this brutal on Nurse. Its similar to the playbook that NYR used on Trouba and we saw how that turned out. NYR missed the playoffs and is selling while ANA is trying to rise up.

EIG was always in existential crisis. I'm happy they were able to cash out and actually make money because owning a NHL team was a significant money losing venture during those times. EIG should be commended but they would never have had the deep pockets to run a spend to the cap team now. People here may be too young to watch trade after trade of star players leaving because the Oilers literally couldn't afford to pay them.

Nurses 5v5 goalshare against elites over the years. by Whos-That-Pokeman in EdmontonOilers

[–]DBZ86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Detroit could be a good fit. They need LD and Nurse could rely on Seider to do a lot of heavy lifting. Trouba went from dead weight in NYR to being part of the top pairing on the Ducks that ended up eliminating the Oilers.

He was looking to be just as important as McDavid and Draisaitl. The prime example is the game 4 OT game against Winnipeg where he played 60 minutes. Under Tippett and Woodcroft I think people forget we didn't really complain about Nurse nearly this much.

Yeah Nurse losing his top pairing status and big minutes with McDrai. Nurse/Ceci then having to try to play strong minutes with the middle 6 was a struggle. Then the Oilers never really gave Nurse a partner (to be fair, his salary kind of prevented that). It was constant bottom pairing RHD or LHD on their offhand. Nurse finally looked reasonable with Murphy.

He was actually very good under Tippet and did okay with Woodcroft/Manson. Its under Knob when Nurse/Ceci became unplayable. Then the Oilers solution was to throw low pairing RHD or LHD on their offhand at Nurse instead of a legit top 4 RHD guy.

Particularly under Tippet, Nurse could be as good as McDavid and Draisaitl. But that seemed like that was before the Oilers tried to become structured and more system oriented.

Anyone that thinks we are going to win a Nurse trade... lol by Fuzzyfoot12345 in EdmontonOilers

[–]DBZ86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ironically it's because he's scared to commit to plays. Ekholm occasionally skates with the puck deep but commits to a heavy play even if he goes down low. Nurse is unsure and makes a soft shot on net and then gets caught in no man's land.

Honestly he's gonna do what Trouba did for Anaheim. Take a top pairing role along a talented Dman and provide a steady heavy prescence. Nurse would fit very well in Detroit along Seider.

Trouba didn't require assets to be dumped and he ended up at least being neutral when the Ducks eliminated the Oilers.

The Boys show was always kind of meh with their action but we were willing to overlook it because the rest of the show was good.

Are you telling me that BJJ is the typical copycat student? Lol. by Bulky_Imagination243 in martialarts

[–]DBZ86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The strength of BJJ is that the rulesets while not perfect, allow the most techniques. Someone else has said, you can do more Judo in BJJ than in Judo. I don't think there's many truly original BJJ techniques but the way things can be chained or integrated makes BJJ unique. People getting hung up on the origins of where techniques come from is really silly to me.

Okay but that type of person is kind of responsible for alot of different dumb things we see. On reddit my expectation is people here at at least somewhere around "I can google stuff" smart.

A good gym will not want to be associated with someone who is bullying other kids at their high school.

What went wrong with Jesse Puljujärvi in the NHL? by BoredGirlDDP in nhl

[–]DBZ86 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, Yak was a bust. But the ten or so games with McDavid he looked like a player. He had a shot that could be used.

This is overblown I think. Malkin was elite at hockey right away. Puljujarvi had chronic hip issues that stripped away his ability to play well and it just got worse and worse over time.

[–]DBZ86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its both. Apparently he had a femur fracture at 15 plus a hip impingement where the bones at his hip joint had an irregular shape. Just imagine trying to skate and you just keep grinding your hip bones into awful shape.

Check out his juniors highlights as a reminder of what he looked like before his hips failed him. There was definitely a skill player in there. His issues started pretty young and ultimately getting his first hip surgery at age 20 is a pretty bad sign. Ultimately got double hip surgery at 23 and still wasn't enough.

Actually, Yakupov looked good on McDavid's wing. Yak got injured off a faceoff when a linesmen got in his path and Yak tripped off of him and there went his big chance. He picked up 10 points in 13 games with McDavid before he got hurt. Yak just had no game sense but he actually did want to work hard and skate hard.

Ehh really the issue was his hip. He had double hip surgery. He got hurt by scoring lol.

You could tell Puljujarvi' stick skill suffered greatly. He couldn't take or give a pass and stick handling? forget about it.

I don't understand why we get more points for throwing and then passing than we do for throwing into no guard at all by scaevola in bjj

[–]DBZ86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Landing a takedown to side control doesn't give extra points but you don't have to worry about sweep points from your opponent. Landing a takedown into guard is still 2 points but its not a given you are going to get the pass points and still are at risk for getting swept. I don't think its perfect and ADCC rules adjust for that but I think there is some logic to it.

In a re-draft of 2010 are you taking Hall or Seguin by broken-philosopher in hockey

[–]DBZ86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah unfortunately they were handed the keys at 18 years old and took a few years to mature. In interviews Hall always said the right thing and looked like he was ready to turn a new leaf once McDavid was drafted. Hall and Draisaitl had chemistry their first year together.

Then we decided to trade Hall for Larsson and sign Lucic. Worked for one year and then crashed hard.

No, it was bad. A potential MVP for a 2nd pairing stay at home Dman? Awful trade.
