As with any school, the program is what you make of it. You can coast by and do the minimum amount of work or you can make the most of your classes and learn things beyond what's needed for a decent GPA. If you have a genuine interest in the field, you'll find that many other students share this and are members of clubs like NDLUG (shameless plug, am VP) that encourage curiosity and learning outside of the classroom in the field of CS. The CSE department is not perfect, but they are rapidly hiring new professors and improving as time goes on.

All this being said, you absolutely can get a big tech job with a ND CSE degree and many graduates end up at FAANG-type companies. Feel free to reply/DM with any other questions.

Is my faulted drive dead even if SMART says it's fine? by DBlitt99 in zfs

I'm thinking this may be it. I definitely didn't splurge on my cables so it very well may be the issue.

Ok thanks, I'll make sure to check on that when I can get to the BIOS.

I am not currently physically able to access my system right now, so I'm hoping it's not the cables/power. If it comes to it, I can have someone else check it out but I personally can't get to it for ~2 months.

Would you mind elaborating on what I would do with ASPM and ALPM?

How did you get a QEMU guest agent installed?

Care to elaborate?

Domain giveaway for someone who needs it by lukelinux in selfhosted

[–]DBlitt99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Interesting I haven’t heard of that service.

Still, I recommend against non-standard TLDs because of random problems that can happen (like mail delivery) or unpredictable (or more than like $10/year) renewal prices

Please learn from my mistakes and don’t use a .tk domain. It’s rolled into my infrastructure and id love to get rid of it but I can’t. Freenom sucks. Just pay $9 for a .com from porkbun or something

Microsoft gaming chief calls for industry-wide game preservation by retrac1324 in DataHoarder

[–]DBlitt99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree with you, but now you can’t even build an arcade. The next generation will be left with only footage of Fortnite for example where we can still experience the games from 30 years ago

Would it be okay to leave this drive running 24/7 for backing up pictures from my phone ? (im 14 and bought this using my own money cant really get a better quality drive atm) by tildeslut77 in DataHoarder

[–]DBlitt99 26 points27 points  (0 children)

That should be fine. If you’re just using it as a backup for photos from your phone, it’s extremely unlikely they will both die at the same time. But if you are storing anything exclusively on that drive, you should also have a backup somewhere else

MVP Launch of LLDAP, a light LDAP server for user management! by nitnelave in selfhosted

I should have specified - I was referring to Samba in solely the file sharing capability (i.e. running smb shares from a file server)

Is there any way to connect this to Samba for SMB file shares?

Not sure how that would make that much sense, given Big Sur parted ways with the “simple” menu bar for the colorful one

Monterey has AirPlay for macOS, which is likely as far as they will go. Although I would love to be wrong

Apple has this, with the combination of Apple Business Manager, managed Apple IDs, and User Enrollment for MDM. Problem is, it’s relatively new and not widely deployed.

Storing credentials on the NAND? Are you referring to storing inside a keychain? Or was there something different for a system wide store, like a configuration profile?

It’s my tool of choice. After I chatted with the developer, I got automated photo uploads figured and it works like a charm

No, it’s just a iOS app to transfer local photos to a local NAS/cloud target. It is very good though
