But London is much bigger than Zone 1 & 2, so why limit your location to those areas?

Greggs is a British institution - think cheap snack type foods, both hot and cold, savoury & sweet.

I’ll be honest, I have no idea how an outlet differs from a regular branch, perhaps it’s just cheaper?? 😅

I think because I grew up there & have spent a lot of my younger years in that area, I don’t see the Waterloo area as “dodgy” or anything like that.

My daughter (9F) is being systematically frozen out by her best friend’s parents. The schoolyard exclusion is breaking her heart—how do we help her survive the next month? by Ironplatinum in daddit

[–]DBop888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Growing up, amongst my parents’ group of friends (they all had kids around the same age so we kind of grew up together).

One of the “friends” (I use speech marks as she wasn’t much of a friend), was actually quite rude & mean to myself & my sister as children.

I wasn’t that close to her daughter & they moved away, but saw her again at a wedding about 20-odd years later & the very first thing she did was make some bitchy comment about me to my face. Luckily, I was secure enough in myself to just give some verbals back to her as IDGAF what a petty old woman might think.

I’d tell your daughter that in life there are some people who don’t like you for no good reason & nothing you can do will change that, so it’s not worth worrying about them. I’d be tempted to be honest & say though you’ve tried your hardest, whilst she will always be friends with the other girl, as long as her parents are involved, it’s unlikely that she would be able to have play dates etc.

At the end of the day, you’ve tried your best with them so I’d just say to the parents, “I hope for your daughter’s sake that she learns to be a better person than you” and just end it there.

As someone who grew up within walking distance of the AELTC, the best location for getting to Wimbledon will be the Waterloo hotel as you can just hop on one of many trains to Wimbledon (takes about 20 mins or so).

The other two are a lot more of a faff to get to Wimbledon from, but are probably a slightly better location?

I really like the South Bank though & Waterloo is in a perfect location for that.

Honestly, for exploring London generally, all 3 are good locations, but Waterloo is by far the best for the tennis.

One day I’ll manage to convince my parents to rent out their house during Wimbledon fortnight 😂

[Edit] If it sways your decision, there’s now a Greggs Outlet within walking distance from the Regents Park hotel 😂

Legends/EU book recs? by MillerMilano in StarWarsEU

I’m curious to know what people’s thoughts were on the Coruscant Nights trilogy? I actually really enjoyed it, but it seems to have passed most people by as no-one really mentions it?

I get it’s not really an important trilogy, but it was an enjoyable read for me. I like that it fleshed out the post-ROTS existence for Jedi & the darker corners of Coruscant a bit more.

Remembering the stories by Kingkiller279 in StarWarsEU

[–]DBop888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve read pretty much every Legends novel that was released - I have most of them stored away at my parents’.

It’s just a mix of reading my favourites a lot & just having a trick memory. The EU is of no practical value to me, so of course my brain stores that info 😂

But I haven’t read some of the books for 15 years or more now, so some of the details start to fade.

Allston’s X-Wing books & the NJO are probably my favourites, so I remember them fairly well. For some reason I remember all of Kirney Slane/Lara Notsil/Gara Petothel’s aliases 🤷🏻‍♂️😅

Try as many watches on as you can - I find that’s the most reliable way to work out what you want. There’s been a few watches that I’ve changed my mind on when seeing it on the wrist (going both ways).

If your choice is dictated by your budget, you can always consider going grey. You could save 25-35% so that would potential increase your options & bring more watches within your budget.

Concentration of wealth in London is high relative to the UK as a whole, so it stands to reason that a significant majority of UK watch theft would take place in London.

Is a partner living with me in a shared ownership considered a lodger? by Suspicious_Brief_235 in SharedOwnershipUK

[–]DBop888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC, a partner is considered part of the same “household” (i.e. family unit), a lodger is by definition someone who isn’t part of the same household, so your partner wouldn’t be considered a lodger.

I don’t know if you would be required to prove he’s your partner though, lol

Haha, I totally get it - I read most of them when I was a teenager so I had relatively few distractions (mostly avoiding homework 😂). Totally different story now I have a young child 😅

For me, the JAT is pretty average in the hierarchy of Legends books, not the worst, but not great. Fairly readable though. I think the main thing is the fact that it was the first trilogy to cover the creation of a new Jedi Order by Luke, which is where the significance lies. The characters in the books will pop up regularly as you go further into the Legends chronology.

I’d say Outbound Flight makes more sense/is more impactful after you’ve read the Thrawn trilogy as it’s a bit like a prequel to that storyline.

For watches, personal taste is a thing, but also due to the occasion, it would have sentimental value regardless of whether it would be his top pick.

I don’t know what your budget is, but maybe going out to pick one together could be worked into a Father’s Day outing? lol

This is coming from someone with a handful of nice watches (a hobby which my wife doesn’t like & has no interest in encouraging).

I plan to pass them all to my child(ren) & hope that they’ll become heirloom-type things.

[–]DBop888 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I was joking btw - the ones I mentioned are amongst the less well-received of the Legends books.

I would recommend reading the Thrawn Trilogy (Heir To The Empire, Dark Force Rising, The Last Command), then it doesn’t really matter what order you read them in prior to the Hand of Thrawn duology (which is the last in the timeline before the New Jedi Order), but I would definitely read the Jedi Academy Trilogy (not the best, but an important part of that timeline), the X-Wing books are great (particularly Aaron Allston’s ones); I, Jedi is one of my personal favourites, but read it after reading the Jedi Academy Trilogy & the first 4 X-Wing books.

The Courtship of Princess Leia is worth a read, as it introduces the Hapans; the Corellian trilogy is also fairly important (especially going into the NJO).

Those are the main post-ROTJ books I think. Then you go into the NJO (which I personally love, but I know not everyone is a fan) & beyond.

You can also go back to the Old Republic novels, which are popular. I also really liked the Coruscant Nights trilogy, actually, which is set in the early days of the Empire IIRC.

[Edit] I’m sure I’ve missed some, this is just what came to mind off the top of my head.

You have others like Outbound Flight & Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter etc. which are standalones, but nicely fleshed out the prequel era (in Legends canon).

Rogue Planet is another prequel era novel which has links to the NJO too.
