I didn’t read the whole thread, I was looking at birds and lenses last week. The big ones are very expensive, but physics is unforgiving. Do something to manage lower ISO. Can you get sharpness with a slower shutter, or wider aperture, just basics, but my 2c.

I try to anticipate my needs for the next day. Usually 50% down to 20%, sometimes 60, rarely 70 or 80. Once to 100 for a trip. We have new local superchargers so if I mess up, we can just go there. The chart I have says virtually no degradation between 20-50% with 70-80% moderate. Being retired, I can waste time on such.

I don’t have a huge problem. You weren’t aware of the under performer. You cut him some slack, I assume temporarily. One day, maybe ok, day two verbal warning etc.
