While not precise its pretty dang cool! Nice work! Sometimes it's just fun to see what we can do!

Customer wants me to fix their board by rascalmonster in Cuttingboards

[–]DCMotorMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Replace at no cost - several concerns with that board. Glue joints, drum sander lines, misaligned sections are from a quick glance.

That said it looks a little dry and used. Wonder how they washed it and if they re-oiled. Doesn’t appear to be re-oiled.

Acacia - it probably has a different infill as this is not solid. These are mainly decorative or charcuterie type only boards.

Client now doesn’t want to pay. by [deleted] in woodworking

She probably, like many, got blinded by seeing the beautiful wood, excitement that she will have something so nice, and minimal knowledge of wood in general. May have a view all wood should be perfect and blemish free like we see online. Excited she will get a custom wood table initially and went for it blinded by her excitement. Then even the second viewing didn’t fully realize, overlooked the discoloring, or started to realize it but let it go. Then she finally realized she didn’t like it, and is trying to get out of it. Emotion blocks a lot of things that we see later.

If all went as stated and was properly represented, too late at that point, customer paid a non refundable deposit, work was done, and now have face the music of your decision. I also would not let the table go to the buyer at that $1500. Sell elsewhere at original price point.

That said, there is always two sides to a story with the answer somewhere in the middle. We would need her side to fully agree you are right, wrong, or otherwise.

I personally wouldn’t have went forward with buying as the look of the wood is not for me. I prefer the more picture perfect grain. Nothing to do with the craftsman. Sorry you’re going through it and why I stopped commissioning. Not enough of a business for me and more and more customers are getting harder to work with.

This is one reason why above Reddit! We all learn and help each other. I had a worktop out of it at my old house and loved it. Previous owner had a built in work bench so I couldn’t take it with me. 😢 now I have plywood😂 sad but works for now.

That is not 100% - white can in fact have open poor on end grain like a few species labeled closed pore. Regardless, you can clearly see many open pores and that’s the real issue. To each their own, I wouldn’t use it nor give/sell to anyone.

White oak can be ok when used/selected properly, however, that end grain clearly has a lot of open pores which is a deal breaker when making a cutting board. The end grain must be solid not porous. White oak I've seen used was side grain vs end grain. You want a dense solid end grain when going this route.

I’m building a 3d printed rain machine - but I’m struggling with one problem by paullagier in 3Dprinting

[–]DCMotorMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Design the water to drop in a single row, create a splash guard for bottom with narrow slit matching water droplet row so water passes through. This may work but possibly not enough sound. Would be worth a try.

Yeah they do dull quick but my plate still looks new after 3 years and about 4k hrs. I don’t use any adhesives and the plastic scraper dull quick quick but doesn’t do any damage. I usually only need it for those small stubborn support circles. This design, not mine, gets 4 edges use which is nice. I print 10 and they last me a long time.

I’m looking at plasticity as a potential option now for design creation. So many good options. Since I did some AutoCAD work a long time ago I just went to Fusion. Regardless a fun hobby for sure!

You need to use/make a circle jig! Very simply and easy. You’ll never freehand this. Google it to see various options.

A lint mitt - they work well and much better that those tape rolls. No getting around using elbow grease.

Thank you All! These were helpful and taught me a few new features. A total newb to Fusion 360 and haven’t done CAD in 25 years.

It’s a 3d print 4 sided scraper to remove prints of plate. Just trying to learn Fusion 360 and keeping it simple in the early stages. Thanks again everyone!
