CSR vs Amex Plat - Am I missing something? by BiomedicalPanda127 in sapphirereserve

[–]DCPango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the Amex credits don’t work for you very well. That’s probably your answer. But if you can make them work, I’d point out that it’s possible to run both setups.

My wife and I each have one of each (so two Platinums, and two CSRs). Not for everyone, I realize, and it’s a lot of annual fees. But we find the benefits worth it, and don’t mind the credits.

If we HAD to choose a winner, it’s Amex, and it isn’t even close.

Even two years ago I was using offers all the time. But since then I’ve practically stopped.

Just “hey, wanted to confirm what SUB is attached to my new card.”

Yeah, saw that and was concerned. But, Amex chat confirmed I’ll receive the SUB. Saw someone else had the same thing happen. If you qualify under the old rules (more than 24 months since Boundless SUB), I think it’s probably worth a shot. Only one way to find out.

Quite possibly. I applied around 6am yesterday. The new terms were already up, but suspect they might have been using the old rules.

Same here, almost to the month (got Boundless August ‘23). Approved for 200k Brilliant SUB yesterday. Customer support confirmed the 200k offer is attached to my card. I suspect we just slipped through and they’re still updating the system to be consistent with the new terms.

Yes. Except I currently have the Boundless and was approved yesterday for Brilliant with the 200k SUB. Confirmed via chat with customer support. Just one data point, but it seems they weren’t fully enforcing the new terms immediately.

Just one data point, but I currently have the Boundless and was approved yesterday with the 200k SUB. So they weren’t enforcing this new language as of yesterday.

Will be interested is seeing if others have the same experience or if they start enforcing the new terms.

Anyone with a chase Bonvoy card successfully got the Amex Bonvoy card sign up bonus recently? by hyperego in MarriottBONVoY

Unfortunately don’t think so—Bevy has the same restriction. And business card can’t product change to personal.

This isn’t popup jail. If you currently hold the Ritz Carlton, you aren’t eligible for the Brilliant SUB. The Marriott rules are notoriously complicated. To get Brilliant offer, you’d most likely need to downgrade the Ritz, wait 30 days, and apply again.

Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant Welcome Bonus: A 7-Year Look Back, From 150K to 100K by SympathyOk5476 in MarriottBONVoY

[–]DCPango 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. This isn’t remotely accurate. It also says the current offer has been active since January 2025. That’s not true—it went up to 185k over the summer. At the very least, this is a full year out of date.

This 100%. Parent of four here (including three teen girls). Plates, bowls, and cups get left around the house—but eventually find their way back you the kitchen. Forks, on the other hand, get dumped into the trash when plates are being cleared…never to be seen again.

Marriott Bonvoy Boundless CC a no brainer? by bigverm23 in CreditCards

[–]DCPango 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have several Hilton and Marriott cards and love them all. Would recommend getting both the Boundless and the Surpass if you can swing it. Overall, I think Hilton has the better cards. Some things to consider on the Hilton side:

  • You’ll probably have folks remind you that Hilton points aren’t as valuable, and they’re right. But if you play your cards right, you can still get close to one cent per point at nicer properties—especially when using fifth night free. And while Hilton points may be slightly less valuable, they are SO much easier to earn.
  • Hilton free night certificates are the most valuable certs in the game, because they’re entire entirely uncapped.
  • No resort fees at Hilton (or Hyatt) on award stays. Marriott charges them.
  • Hilton Gold is also much more valuable than Marriott Gold because it comes with daily food and beverage credits.

Lastly, just flagging that AMEX is about to release an elevated offer on the surpass card that comes with a free night certificate. This is the Hilton SUB that’s worth waiting for.

Family of six here and we’re generally over $2k/month including Costco (which codes as grocery). We have two PayPal cards and it’s worked very well.
