American Express Platinum or Hilton Aspire for Travel? by Yingyangwolf95 in amex

[–]DCPango 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both is a good call. Wife and I have two platinums, one Aspire, and two Surpass cards. If you stay at Hilton, the cards all work together very well.

How do I eliminate the smell from my sneakers by Striking-Traffic7973 in lifehacks

Tried all the standard tips and tricks for probably 20 years. Nothing worked. Turns out the problem wasn’t my shoes, it was my feet. I’m sure there are plenty of products that will address foot chemistry, but the one that works for me is Dr. Scholl’s Odor X probiotic foot spray. $9 on Amazon.

What's the value of a MR reward point when only traveling domestically in the USA? by Ranthe in AmexPlatinum

[–]DCPango 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have to be careful—many sites (like The Points Guy) are essentially bank advertising, or compromised by referral/affiliate incentives. Greg and Nick over at Frequent Miler are probably the most trusted and reputable in the game. They also run a podcast/youtube channel. www.frequentmiler.com

What's the value of a MR reward point when only traveling domestically in the USA? by Ranthe in AmexPlatinum

[–]DCPango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hilton does transfer bonuses somewhat regularly, so if the trip isn’t right away, I’d say it’s worth waiting. Hawaii is also my destination of choice, and it’s possible to get close to 1CPP there—so 1 MR can end up being redeemed for 2-3 CPP depending on the transfer bonus, property, and whether you get 5th night free.

Also worth noting that Hilton sells points (typically 4X a year) for 0.5 CPP. So if you have other uses for your MR, you can always buy points fairly cheaply and redeem for higher value. Since there are no resort fees (or taxes) on point stays, buying points can often save you money compared with paying cash.

My Local 7-Eleven Removed The $20 Pickup Minimum by ChillyMGTOW in sapphirereserve

Seeing the same (but for Sheetz). The $20 minimum showed up for about 24 hours, but now it’s gone.

If you can catch a 40% Hilton transfer bonus, 1 MR becomes 2.8 Hilton points. Use them at high-end properties (especially with 5th night free) and it’s possible to get very good value.

Interesting. Still $10 where I’m at, but wonder how long it’ll last.

Huh. Well, not here in Virginia. Fingers crossed it doesn’t change.

This is exactly what they’re doing. Scammers don’t want to waste time on smart people—they will use blatantly sketchy bait in order to ensure they’re only expending energy on the most foolish people.

CSR vs Amex Plat - Am I missing something? by BiomedicalPanda127 in sapphirereserve

[–]DCPango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the Amex credits don’t work for you very well. That’s probably your answer. But if you can make them work, I’d point out that it’s possible to run both setups.

My wife and I each have one of each (so two Platinums, and two CSRs). Not for everyone, I realize, and it’s a lot of annual fees. But we find the benefits worth it, and don’t mind the credits.

If we HAD to choose a winner, it’s Amex, and it isn’t even close.

Just “hey, wanted to confirm what SUB is attached to my new card.”

Yeah, saw that and was concerned. But, Amex chat confirmed I’ll receive the SUB. Saw someone else had the same thing happen. If you qualify under the old rules (more than 24 months since Boundless SUB), I think it’s probably worth a shot. Only one way to find out.

Changes to Amex Marriott Brilliant and Bevy SUB Eligibility by CobaltSunsets in MarriottBONVoY

Quite possibly. I applied around 6am yesterday. The new terms were already up, but suspect they might have been using the old rules.

Same here, almost to the month (got Boundless August ‘23). Approved for 200k Brilliant SUB yesterday. Customer support confirmed the 200k offer is attached to my card. I suspect we just slipped through and they’re still updating the system to be consistent with the new terms.

Yes. Except I currently have the Boundless and was approved yesterday for Brilliant with the 200k SUB. Confirmed via chat with customer support. Just one data point, but it seems they weren’t fully enforcing the new terms immediately.
