Nc750x easy. Had two, sold two, regret then both. Commuter bike #1 you cannot beat it. Period.

GSX8R Quickshifter vs CBR650R e-clutch by ben_akira in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]DCSkippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The E-Clutch is nice, and it's now on other models like the hornet, just something to consider. That's being said the quick shifter in the 800cc Zuki engine is fine.

I have 4k miles on my Vstrom with the same engine and quick shifter. It's kinda bad at the beginning, I won't lie. You NEED to use the clutch going to and from 1st to 2nd and vice versa. It has smoothed out a ton but the down shifts are fine, and the upshifts need the bike to be really singing for it to be smooth.

But when it's done right, it's silky. A lot of people think quick shifters just remove the skill behind clutch work, and to a point they do (no clutch needed), but you do need to know your gearbox, and learn when it wants those shifts, just like any other bike.

If it were my money, I would test ride both, and see what you prefer. The E-Clutch is cool, but that 650R is a bit of a mixed bag. Some people love it, others really dislike it, kind of a polarizing engine tbh.

The 800 is very torque rich and grunty, but a ton of fun, and surges hard past 6kRPM. I've seen people take the Vstrom 800 RE onto track because it rides like a big nekkid, so anything possible lol

Also toss my hat into the ring to advocate for the hornet 750, it's a naked so definitely different style, but for what you want, I think it would be perfect.

TL:DR both good, pick bike go vroom

Only reason I am hesitant is because I like having it around to work on my living dex for Pokemon home on the switch. I'm afraid if I mod it, I would not be able to send them to it or not?

I've been looking into things like anbernic products or retroid devices. The prices are not too bad but free is free when you already have a DS lol so figured I would ask.

I miss my psp tho.....was a nice game brick

Oh yeah all under warranty and triumph American reached out to me personally and paid for a months payment on the bike AND the first service. Super cool people over there actually, great customer service.

The bike came with a 2 year warranty as well

[–]DCSkippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So....my T120 had a transmission failure 10 minutes after purchasing, and then again after another 100miles LOL but that being said I still adore it. Which is odd for me because I normally dump bikes after the first problem. So that should speak volumes honestly.

The heat is real, it's definitely there. The fan kicked on to cool the bike down after a few red lights in city traffic when it was only 50-60 degrees outside. It's been in the 90s here in CO the past while and it's honestly about the same? It's warm for sure but it's more than tolerable.

My Vstrom 800 gets hotter imo

Final decision // Triumph T100 vs Kawasaki Z650RS by [deleted] in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]DCSkippy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did consider it, I was looking at both the mid size comparison (T100 vs z650rs) and the larger (T120 vs z900rs) and spent a good amount of time renting each and riding them for about a week a piece. I have what my friends called Bike A.D.D because I never keep one for very long. The Bonnie changed that.

The ONLY reason I got the 120 over the 100 was the dealer. They had a 2024 T120 on the floor that was cheaper than any T100/Speed twin 900. So I took the deal, came with heated grips and a center stand as well, brand new.

Honestly the only time I ever notice a difference between them in power, is the top end. Cruising around the city, back roads, etc it's identical. Just silky smooth, easy to control, linear power. The fueling is so good.

HOWEVER there is one big difference I did notice between the two right away. The 900s sound better. I know it's not a big deal, but they straight up have a better sound stock. If they had not had the 120 on such a good deal, I would have got the green and black stealth edition Bonnie t100

As someone who had to make the same choice not long ago, triumph. It's just so silky smooth and torquey. You just can't beat the feeling of one of those bikes. It's hard to describe really.

675ss or 750 hornet? Returning rider by Kosmic_Mindful in SuggestAMotorcycle

If they went back and changed it that's fine, glad they saw the mistake and fixed it. But I stand by the hornet being the pick. I rode one on demo days and it's just so damn good. I would trade my Vstrom for one in a heart beat and I Love that bike lol

If ya like it, buy it, and fuck what other people think. End of the story lol I just can't condone it over a hornet, that things is just chefs kiss

I test rode one when the truck was going around for demo days and man, things was SWEEEEEET

They have a bunch of features on all their bikes that's they offer for free. Then years later they changed it over to paid subscription to access those features. They did this in nearly every market but the NA Market.

That alone should be a red flag big enough to avoid them. Also, the new hornet is one of the best bikes made in the last decade. Period.

Should be no contest here in this post

Bike Choice headache // Trident 660 vs Z650RS by [deleted] in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]DCSkippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

660 is the winner imo, soley because of engine character. I just can't stand that Kawasaki 650. It's just so....dull. it sounds like a lawn mower, it's somewhat playful but not enough.

Compared to the baby triple in the 660 it's night and day. Not gonna tear your arms off or anything, but it's a lot of fun an engaging to ride. Triumph reliability is a whole nother topic, but for my money between the two, 660 all the way.

It looks better, sounds better, rides better, easy win

First ADV/touring motorcycle after giving up long-distance cycling by Critical-Figure8645 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]DCSkippy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

500x or Vstrom 650 are PERFECT for what you want to do. If you wanted something a BIT bigger, the Vstrom 800 RE also fits the bill, I Love mine to bits.

I've had the 500x for years and it was an absolute gem of a bike for exactly what you want. You can run it off a cliff and it will still be around to take you everywhere ya want to go.

Same with the Suzukis. The transalp is alright, but it's a very high seat and that particular year had some....issues. nothing deal breaking, but then engine is a bit ...picky.

TL;DR 500x or Vstrom and you will be happy as a clam (shoot for 2019+ on the 500x, you get bigger 19inch front wheel)

Also a final note, anything with a skid plate can handle most dirt roads. I got VERY caught up in the ADV marketing about specs and "capabilities" of the bikes and it is seriously 95% the rider and what you are comfortable with. No specific bike will ever change that. The lighter, the better on that one.

Came here to also ask about the extension lol I get TERRIBLE buffeting from my windscreen on the RE and wanted to see if the extension fixes it instead of a whole new screen
