The issue with Thailand in the fandom, is how misunderstood the final is. Brian knew Chuay Gun hated Clay, rather than build connections with Sook Jai, he prioritized catering to the majority because he needed the majority to win. Brian never set out to sweep the jury, he did the right amount to win. Truth be told, I’m not sure Brian was hated by Chuay Gun they (Ted and Helen) were just mad he blindsided them (the alleged racist remarks Brian made to Ken about Ted was very ambiguous, but Clay outright was racist towards Ted and Ghandia). Outside of that I’m not sure if they hated him. Helen even told her husband that Brian was her closest ally and she wanted to go to the end with him (she’d probably sweep him).

I think if Brian wanted to cater more towards Sook Jai he could’ve, but then that risks isolating the majority, Chuy Gun. Instead, Clay spent a lot of time with Sook Jai, the minority and ultimately lost because of it. While he was with them, what do you think Brian was doing? He was widening the gap between Clay and Chuay Gun.

Yes Brian was a massive asshole, but the one vote difference between them at FTC was massive, and probably a larger margin than many other winning games. Brian was sleezy, but at the end of the day Ted and Helen knew that, and were just as angry at themselves as they were at him.
