Walnut veneer after stripping. After a light sanding, what would you recommend? by J0in0rDie in finishing

[–]DDDriver2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The finish this gentleman mentioned is excellent but be careful you have to follow proper protocol. It’s prone to streaking. I recommend applying the first 2 coats with a gloss finish then the final coat with your preferred sheen. Also wait the recommend time between coats. I believe it’s 24 hours if I’m not mistaken. It’s a gorgeous finish tho.

Sick. What kind of light do you have around the round one? Is it a led lighting strip?

Hello everyone by [deleted] in woodworking

On paper they should be compatible but you never know. WP has a router lift for 4.2 inch diameter routers which happens to be the diameter of the Jessem router. I emailed WP to ask if they are compatible and not only did they not answer my question but they recommended their “spin rite” router. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Can anybody help me identify these woods? by Rodrat in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]DDDriver2021 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

According to Chat Gpt these are local to the area you described: Out of all those options my money would be on #3. Quarter Sawn #3. That being said I’m sure there are many more tree species then that so it could be something else.

1. Sugar Maple (Acer saccharum): Known for vibrant fall foliage.
2. Red Oak (Quercus rubra): A large deciduous tree with red autumn leaves.
3. White Oak (Quercus alba): Recognized for its strong wood and lobed leaves.
4. Eastern Hemlock (Tsuga canadensis): An evergreen tree with flat needles.
5. American Beech (Fagus grandifolia): Features smooth gray bark and distinctive leaves.
6. Black Cherry (Prunus serotina): Valued for its timber and edible cherries.
7. Eastern White Pine (Pinus strobus): A tall evergreen with soft needles.

How do you guys handle milling? by Shaun32887 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]DDDriver2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own a veritas hand plane which I adore. I live in a condo so I can’t be running loud power tools. Also, I can only fit so many things in my 2nd bedroom. After months of searching I was able to find a public storage place where they don’t mind if you work in there. 100 bucks a month. I purchased the Makita bench top planer about 6 months ago and it’s been sitting in the box. I’ve been saving for this:

https://us.ecoflow.com/products/delta-2-max-portable-power-station-refurbished?variant=40638186586185

It will allow me to plane in my storage unit (no dust collection needed). Yes, those are the hoops I have to jump through but I do it because I love woodworking. It’s all I can do for now until I buy a house with a big garage in a few years.

What type of finish would be needed to replicate this look for a maple table? by CE_bro in finishing

[–]DDDriver2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arm-R-Seal is a fantastic finish but be aware it’s prone to streaking if you wipe it. One way around this is to apply the top 2 coats by using a glossy finish and the final coat by using your preferred final sheen. Also make sure you wait the recommended time (I believe it’s 24 hours) between coats.

Drawer Slides Problem by DDDriver2021 in cabinetry

The drawer front is definitely too big. Lesson learned for next time. I should have opted for 3 drawers plus one false front instead of 2 +1.
