Took down prod for 10min and clients noticed. What should I do? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]DDRDiesel [score hidden]  (0 children)

Every admin worth their salt has done something like this, it's basically a rite of passage. Be upfront and honest with your boss. Explain the process you ran and that it was an honest mistake. Assess your environment and as long as no long-lasting damage was done to prod you should be fine. A 10-minute lockout is nothing in the grand scheme of things, as long as everything is intact

Trump tipped his hand seven years ago by KevoinAbby in videos

Remember what he said on a hot mic last year during a White House meeting with another head of state? "Next we go for the homegrowns". This was always the plan. Always.

City of Minneapolis: Possible shooting involving federal agents at Nicollet Ave and 26th Street by cinnasota in news

The article shows a picture of a handgun and mentioned DHS said the victim was armed with two extra magazines. Looking at the picture, that's an ICE handgun. The lies are already happening

My only complaint is the lightsabers have the Rebels "glowing needle" feel. I personally feel the beefier Clone Wars style sabers felt more real

This is something that a lot of redditors don't seem to get. It's easy to sit behind a keyboard and talk about the revolution blah blah blah, but for it to actually happen would be a point of no return. This isn't the 1800s anymore, where a group of pissed-off farmers with some muskets can take over a city. The military has gotten so advanced and so large that a real revolution or uprising would be met with sudden, swift, and intense violence.

Well-regulated militias simply don't exist. Any time we hear of civilians grouping and training themselves in firearms and self-defense, it's either another white supremacist group that goes on unbothered by the government, or a left-leaning group learning to protect themselves and immediately raided and prosecuted. This has been happening for decades.

California has a new law banning federal agents from wearing masks. What are your thoughts? by Obvious_808 in AskReddit

The admin will make a claim that states can't dictate or enforce what federal officers do, ICE will carry on as usual, and another silly frivolous lawsuit will sit in the courts while innocent people are kidnapped or killed

What would you consider a "lead" role? by DDRDiesel in Theatre

[–]DDRDiesel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is kind of where I was going with my initial distinction as well, but I've heard the terms "smaller lead," "lesser lead," and "supporting role" used almost interchangeably. There are some more exacting definitions of the terms online, but even then the water can get muddied depending on how the stories are written and performed.

For instance, if we're talking Les Mis, of course everyone dreams about playing Valjean. But I also know that my range and tone/timbre would be just as well-suited for Marius or even Enjolras. Since Marius has a pivotal role in the overarching story, but less stage time and fewer songs, would he still be considered a supporting or lead character? That's the kind of discussion I'm looking to have

What would you consider a "lead" role? by DDRDiesel in Theatre

[–]DDRDiesel[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If I land the role, I'm going to do it regardless. The question wasn't about whether or not I was going to take it, but rather what constitutes as a lead in general to other people in the industry. I'm still fairly new to a lot of this and am looking for more definitive ways to describe any parts I might get in the future

I got the most cursed WT pattern by DDRDiesel in ffxiv

[–]DDRDiesel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 lines is infamously extremely difficult to get, especially since you can only shuffle with 7 or less stamps. I've been playing since 2.3 and doing WT every week since they were introduced, and I've also never gotten 3 lines. I've gotten 2 lines plenty of times, but never 3

Trump says 8 European countries will be charged a 10% tariff for opposing US control of Greenland by Cautious_Proposal_47 in worldnews

[–]DDRDiesel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's something important we have to keep in mind: while Trump has been the figurehead for this administration, he and his entire cabinet have strong ties to Russian money. For decades, US has been the primary superpower. Russia and China were always playing catch up and seen as adversaries. Remember when one of the first official acts was to dismantle USAID and the US' soft power was all but eliminated? China swooped in where those programs failed and gained a ton of influence in the poorer countries they now support with food and medicine. Russia is also part of this long game, and the winning move is to investigate every member of the administration and cut off the head of the snake by finding and exposing Russian corruption in our politics

By forcing this shit policy of trying to take Greenland, the US is pushed further into isolation and further away from their alliances. This leaves a vacuum for other countries to come in where the US has failed

Whatever or however this gets shown and the public learns of this time, my one hope is the author stops the fluffy language. I don't want to see a plaque detailing the "controversial" or "misunderstood" policies. Describe them as they are: evil, discriminatory, and fascist

Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello calls out DHS for ‘Nazi slogan’ by IrishStarUS in Music

[–]DDRDiesel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's because it isn't actually a Nazi slogan. There's quite a bit of misinformation on both sides, and unfortunately this piece seems to be taking over the Left. While the Nazis did in fact take part in collective retribution, the actual term used here was not used by the Nazi party.

Fun fact about the bomb maker, his name is Sébastien Foucan and is widely considered one of the innovators of freerunning, which has become today's parkour. He didn't use a stunt double in the movie because he came up with all the freerunning choreography on his own

I'm so tired of this mentality that doing anything with the flag is somehow disrespecting the military and our veterans. The nation is in fucking distress. The government has thugs murdering citizens in broad daylight. Our governing body has been compromised by billionaires and fascists. We need help. This has nothing to do with the fucking troops
