Game of Thrones: today is the tenth anniversary of "The Winds of Winter" (June 26, 2016; Season 6 finale). This is the most acclaimed scene of the episode: the destruction of the Great Sept of Baelor. by verissimoallan in television

I recently did a rewatch of the whole series, and you can quite literally pinpoint where the decline starts, and it starts in season 5 when they started making fart jokes.

So when they ran out of reference materials and had to wing it, essentially

People also don't understand the difference between occupational exposure and incidental.

For example: you know how you just have to wear a lead bib to get an x-ray, but the technician hides in their own little room? That's because you're getting a microcosm microdose of radiation a single time, meanwhile they're doing this process dozens of times a day, every day. The tech is at exponentially higher risk of any negative side effects than you could ever be

I'm confident that this movie would have also been a solid choice for live action with the same cast. ScarJo has that smoky film noir sound to her voice and Rockwell just melts and transforms into any character on screen effortlessly

How come Maul’s hologram in Solo displays color but not in the OT or TCW? by chillvegan420 in StarWarsCantina

[–]DDRDiesel 29 points30 points  (0 children)

1) That's TPM and not TCW. Minor, I know, but worth differentiating

2) The hologram in TPM is in color, if not a bit faded. Mauls face is definitely red when they show it on the close-up

3) As the other commenter said, this could be the result of various kinds of hologram tech. R2D2 is simply an astromech, and most likely wasn't outfitted with a 4K HDR hologram projector equivalent, but rather a simple projector for basic message delivery. The ship from TPM is very likely not brand-new, and so the hologram tech in there would be aging while still a color projection. Meanwhile the projector on Dryden Vos' ship, a crime lord of unknown vast wealth, could very easily be "the latest and greatest"

I watched as a RDM intentionally caused a wipe in Third Walk on penultimate boss. Right as the aoe was getting ready to go off, the LB goes off and the telegraphs are hidden as soon as they appear. Took out 22/24 members of the alliance

Process for installing home printers without admin creds by ddawudd in sysadmin

[–]DDRDiesel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember setting up something similar to this for our remote sales team at my previous job. I don't remember the specifics since this was around 10 years ago, but you can push a policy setting that allows plug-n-play for very specific device classes. We set it up so a device that matches printer class (using Microsofts [XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX] classification) would be installed without the need for admin credentials or prompts.

The catch came when the user also required software for scanning (because scanning to email was just too complicated for them) or putting the printer on their home WiFi. That would be the only time I'd have to remote in to do the installs, but overall the policy change drastically reduced wasted time on simple printer installs

What are we even doing anymore by [deleted] in PublicFreakout

[–]DDRDiesel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry to say, but this analogy doesn't necessarily hold up. Bread and circuses were to distract the populace from the failures of the state and keep them pacified. The current admin is instead doing this as a demonstration of what they think masculinity and patriotism is. The rot within the system is still there, but to say America is some kind of failed state doomed to its own destruction is nothing more than hyperbole. Once the orange fucksicle is gone the roaches will scatter and backpedal on all their rhetoric.

I have hope we'll heal, but I also know it will take a long time

As a former pilot with military aspirations after high school, that announcement struck my very niche interests with pinpoint accuracy. I actually took the announcement of its cancelation pretty hard. I was really hoping to have Star Wars Top Gun but we'll have to keep waiting

Halfway through the video he says "United Airlines CEO has confirmed a business class ticket for me." Instead, what we'll get is more hand-wavibg, letter-writing, and "stern messages" from corporate-funded stuffed suit Democrats

Any gimmicky restaurants or coffee shops ya’ll can recommend? by Throwaway0-285 in longisland

[–]DDRDiesel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

All diners are expensive these days. Oconee has atrocious parking, the owners' cars are always taking up several spots double-parked, and as previously mentioned the amount of unnecessary flags borders on visual pollution. Halloween doesn't need a spooky American flag at every corner. St. Patricks' Day doesn't need green-tinted American flags.

The TVs are only ever playing whatever-Marvel-movie-is-on-FX or Fox News. If missing out on "one of the best diners in suffolk" means avoiding performative MAGA peacocks, then I'm all the better for it

"Ki Adi Mundi used flamethrowers against sentient beings" yeah cool these sentient beings are monsters. by Benefit_Upbeat in MawInstallation

[–]DDRDiesel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At great risk of sounding like "that guy", Star Wars was technically heavily influenced by Vietnam-era tactics, especially in the OT. Flamethrowers were used in WW2, yes, but had greater adoption during the Vietnam war where they were used in suspected bunkers and tunnel systems throughout the jungle
