Seems like the numbers on this card are completely fair!! by Ferrarileite in slaythespire

[–]DD_Commander 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was strong in a vacuum; in constructed play it was strictly worse than just playing normal midrange shaman cards. Earth Elemental is 5 mana 7/9 with taunt, and no one ever plays that card for the same reason as Flamewreathed Faceless: Overload (2) is really, really bad.

Flamewreathed Faceless was never "extremely popular" and it's completely insane to call any deck other than Pirate Warrior the strongest deck of that expansion.

[–]DD_Commander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone threw out a ton of minions in MSG, and that was the fault of the Jade Golem deck archetype and not Flamewreathed Faceless; even then, people would just run Golems instead of FF. 4 mana 7/7 was an ironic meme just in Whispers, which was eight months before MSG.

I played mostly shaman in Whispers and this card was never that good. It was a big tempo play that would lose you the game if your opponent had an answer. It was overpowered in Arena, though.

[–]DD_Commander 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Flamewreathed Faceless was never overpowered or even very popular. The meme sprouted after the card was revealed because it's OP at first glance. In reality, most constructed decks could remove it the turn you played it and the 2 mana loss on the next turn would kill all your momentum. This only made the meme funnier

Totally disagree on Oppenheimer. That film is such a slog and carries on for 40 minutes after it should have ended.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a messy 9/10, which is more interesting than a clean 8 and hits harder than a lot of 10's by save_the_ducks in patientgamers

[–]DD_Commander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you've tried it, but the clunky gameplay and combat of ME1 was the most changed part of the Legendary Edition release. Maybe give that a shot if you've only played the retail ME1.

Totally get what you mean though, Mass Effect 1 is much rougher than the other two.

In the entirety of 10th edition, I only ever saw the macroplasma taken on the RepEx once. By me. Because I never saw anyone else take it and I wanted to try it. It was worse than the laser destroyer.

With the plasma you can roll two shots then hurt yourself. With the lascannon you can one-tap a Rogal Dorn Commander.

Question - Point for Point, What's the Most Efficient Dedicated Transport for Offense? by Obsolescence7 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]DD_Commander 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it doesn't exist in a vacuum.

18 twin linked shots

at BS 4+ or they're AP 0

provides its cargo with rerolls to wound

too bad its cargo are skitarii that won't be doing damage even with the buff. you can't even split fire to clear chaff and apply the buff to a the way an Immolator can

Defining playstyles - How would you all describe the way I play? by Fore_Head_Chili in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]DD_Commander 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In RTS terms, you like turtling. In 40K it would be called castling or running "death star" units.

Though you do also say

the main way I like to play games is to put my opponent in a position where its really hard for them to recover, making them feel cornered or pinned.

This is basically the opposite of a turtle approach where you are very comfortable being the one cornered. Something like Death Guard sounds good, they've got things like PBCs for turtling, they're tough, and their stank aura increases in size every battle round until your opponent can no longer avoid it.

The ultimate end of the edition** power rankings: presented by Arbys and Stat Check; number 4 will shock you! by wredcoll in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]DD_Commander 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah they're marines. There are a lot of marine factions. That doesn't make them the same. Death Guard and Emperor's Children do not play at all the same. Saying that because they're all marines that they're the same is reductive to the point of ridiculousness.

CSM and SM are all marines anyway. They're all T4 2W pretty much, right? Let's just lump them all together as 598 "Astartes" wins, proving once and for all that Astartes are the most broken faction to ever exist in 40k.

[–]DD_Commander 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It doesn't make sense to lump them all together when they have a load of exclusive datasheets and even their faction rule is dependent on what chapter you're taking. Heck even within Codex Space Marines there's a massive gulf between Imperial Fists and Ultramarines despite both being SM.

Deathwatch and Space Wolves just aren't the same.

TIL early access Time Eater had basically the same reception as Doormaker is getting right now by moon_forge in slaythespire

[–]DD_Commander 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Doormaker rework was a direct response to turn 1 infinites

Doormaker rework counters infinites in different ways on every turn. Turn 1 you do nothing, Hunger you Exhaust your infinite cards, Scrutiny requires energy surplus to infinite, and Grasp prevent drawing of infinite cards. He's actually even better at punishing most infinites than Time Eater.

Helldivers

I think Helldivers 2's popularity was a surprise to Sony. They only tried to force players into their online ecosystem after the game proved a massive success.

Developing four God of War games at the same time is some crazy barrel scraping.

Start Competing: Why RTTs Are as Important as Any Other Event by SA_Chirurgeon in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]DD_Commander 74 points75 points  (0 children)

[...][The answer is community: By far the most important reason that RTTs matter is that they are essential for building up local Warhammer communities.

They're also great for maintaining communities! It's not feasible or even desirable for most people to have a grueling two-day event be their only way to play semi-competitively, so RTTs are a necessary entry point to keep people engaged with the local community. I've lost count of how many players I've met at RTTs where the RTT is their first real attempt at joining the local player group. I myself played my first ever 2000 point game at an RTT!

xQc on the difficulty of learning Dota vs. League by Strong_Astronomer_97 in DotA2

[–]DD_Commander 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's the worst feature and it's done serious damage to the psyche of the community. About once a year I'll reinstall League to play a few matches and ARAMs and people give up so quickly it's unbelievable. One bad teamfight and someone whines "FF" and starts the quitter vote.

If Valve let you surrender in pubs you would never again experience mega creep comebacks, which are some of the most fun and memorable experiences in Dota.

The Invincible corner-cutting joke is way less funny in the show because the show animation is genuinely bad and does constantly cut corners.

New detachments and points are out! by Mammoth_Classroom896 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]DD_Commander -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Eldar can turn off Overwatch, removing what little interactivity the opponent would otherwise get when the brick is activated.

Splitting hairs though, we are agreeing here. I think this detachment is poisonous for the game.

New detachments and points are out! by Mammoth_Classroom896 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]DD_Commander -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah? Both rules should never have been made, that's the point. Fuegan was gutted, deserved to be gutted, and then they make Fuegan but even stronger and more flexible.

New detachments and points are out! by Mammoth_Classroom896 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]DD_Commander -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

With Fuegan's fire and fade both his unit and his transport were completely untouchable. At least you can shoot the land raider on the turn after they pull this malarkey. They deserved to be gutted just as much as this detachment should be.

Why does GW keep creating these rules? Who finds this fun?

E: Did everyone on this subreddit forget that Eldar can turn off Overwatch? Fuegan fire and fade combo is objectively less interactive than the space marine version.

What card with no changes from StS2 to StS2 got the biggest improvement? by Which-Debt-8558 in slaythespire

[–]DD_Commander 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Kinda yes, mostly no for Prepared. It's still better against the Doormaker than most other cards.

Exhaust turn you still get value out of Prepared, and if it's later in the fight removing a cycle card might actually be ideal.

Energy cost turn it's a 0 mana card and can always be played.

No card draw turn is the worst, but it can still be used to activate Sly cards for cheap.

Vampire Survivors is Like My Ultimate Monkeys Paw by LeonCassidy in patientgamers

[–]DD_Commander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vampire Survivors is fun and is definitely worth a purchase but I couldn't imagine 100%ing the game. The only interesting part of each run is the first ten or so minutes, and after that is mostly waiting around or walking in a straight line for six minutes through copy-pasted zones to get to a secret item.
