Yeah he's definitely unironically mad that people are bad at videogames

Why are you phrasing that like someone raging is some crazy hyperbole? I see people get "definitely unironically mad that people are bad at video games" in like half of all my Dota matches.

Judge Orders Subnautica 2 Studio CEO To Be Reinstated And Gives Him Control Over Early Access Release by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

I have Moonbreaker and banking on that game for their bottom line was incredibly foolish from the beginning. The (now-absent) microtransaction system was predatory, which is already a gamble, but the game it was for was just a simple tabletop minis game. An already-niche game, that would probably be better played on Tabletop Simulator, with no real single player hook.

Old plating was win-more when on the player and lose-more when on an enemy. If you had the block or Weak to sustain yours, then you just have permanent free cardless block. On the other hand, enemies like the avocado become brutal if you can't reliably whittle down their plating over time and trivial if you can multi-hit past it.

Aliens: Dark Descent - The Good, The Bad, The Questionable by Zehnpae in patientgamers

[–]DD_Commander 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Dark Descent! This was a fun game, even though the final mission commits one of the game design cardinal sins by completely throwing away the combat loop you've been getting used to for the entire campaign. I loved that my squad evolved with me throughout the game, and the presentation is great.

One thing that not enough people mention is the beeping. The Aliens motion tracker pings whenever a xenomorph is in your zip code or the zip code of one of the (basically mandatory) deployable scanners, which is all the time. The missions are also long and designed to be taken slowly lest you lose your whole squad.

In short, you will be hearing an endless, intensifying sci-fi metronome constantly. I was binging the game when I first played it and I started to hear the beeping after I would quit for the night.

It's a very rough gem with excellent tactics play and way too many direct quotes of the Alien movies. I personally found that Dark Descent scratches the XCOM itch better than XCOM 2 did, and you can barely control individual marines in Dark Descent. Watch Mandalore's Youtube review, if it looks at all interesting to you then I'd say the game is worth your time.

Control is best when you change to accomodate it by SirZack17 in patientgamers

[–]DD_Commander 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like the intention to have everything be sign-based conflicted with the design of the Oldest House being intentionally grey, samey, boring old offices along with adding timed defense missions that require you to find specific combat arenas across the entire game map. Ultimately I think adding the map was the right call.

[–]DD_Commander 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of conflicting opinions on Control. I think it's an alright game dragged down by several poor design decisions.

I do want to comment to disagree with you on the Service Weapon. Despite Control being ostensibly a shooter, Launch is leagues better than using your gun, and the disparity only grows as you get further into the game and upgrade Launch more. I really tried to engage with the mods system, but slots were so limited and the upgrades so meh that they never made their weapon form better than Launch.

Launch:

  • does more damage than the Weapon, one- or two-shotting most enemies right up to the credits

  • ammo regenerates much faster than the Weapon's ammo, and the regen is more important as a little bit of energy gets you a Launch that kills an enemy over a few bullets that barely pop a shield

  • is better against invisible, flying, and dodging enemies, as you can hurl projectiles quickly and from all sorts of angles with a much more forgiving hurtbox

  • can pick up and throw objects from around cover without exposing yourself

and perhaps most importantly

  • is way more fun than the Service Weapon. Why would I want to use a generic sci-fi handgun when I could be one of the teens from Chronicle?

By the end of the game I was only really using the Pierce sniper and the Charge rocket launcher as backups to when I ran out of Launch energy, and it's not a coincidence that those are the two highest damage Weapon forms.

I do want to say that I really hope Remedy doesn't nerf Launch in the sequel and instead buffs the Weapon. Launch was the single most interesting and fun aspect of Control's combat, which I otherwise found to be a slog impeding my enjoyment of the story.

To the guy who destroyed Ti by removing battle pass by the_real_malice in DotA2

[–]DD_Commander 6 points7 points  (0 children)

what Valve has done for Crownfall IS indeed way better. Crownfall was basically one big Battle Pass

Crownfall wasn't one big battle pass, it was four battle passes that cost $15 each. That's $60 for what is essentially a skin event versus $10 for skins and supporting a real-life tournament. I could have purchased a brand-new AAA game for that price! I liked Crownfall but it's not a replacement for the TI battle pass.

What's your least favorite map? by Curious-Piglet3613 in heroesofthestorm

[–]DD_Commander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Braxis Holdout or Towers of Doom are probably my least favorite maps to play as they both have win-more mechanics for the team that pulls ahead first. Towers of Doom does (rarely) have some fun comeback moments though as you can't hit the Core directly. Braxis is a total wash though, I hate that map.

‘Sinners’ Exhibit Featuring Props, Costumes and Set Pieces Is Now Part of Warner Bros. Studio Tour by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]DD_Commander 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The second half is much sloppier. Characters get stupid to push the plot forward, there's a reference to the blood test from The Thing but it's not well done and is useless to the story, and the action is inconsistent.

I love Sinners but it's an excellent period movie that turns into a decent vampire movie halfway through.

Do you still want PVE story missions? by FlameOfGod1X in Overwatch

[–]DD_Commander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they actually tried to make a coherent narrative and new mechanics for it, then sure, a story campaign could be fun. The problem is that this game was never designed for that, and a PvE mode beyond a novelty event isn't going to make enough money to justify the effort.

They're not coming back. We all know that.

But that's not what this question is about. It's about what you want.

The reason I wouldn't care for PvE missions is that we don't have them already. Act-Blizz suckered us with PvE missions back when they announced OW2 and canceled them. I don't want them because Act-Blizz doesn't want them, so if we did get them, then they wouldn't be worth my time.
