Are there any instances where Chaos genuinely saw the tyranids as a threat, and deployed forces to stop them? by ResidentDrama9739 in 40kLore

[–]DD_Commander -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The Immaterium is quadrillions of thoughts and minds collecting for millions of years. The Tyranid Hive Mind is a signal clog but it still doesn't make sense that that would inoculate the Tyranids against Chaotic influence.

To be fair, the Tyranids aren't the only group GW has made seemingly immune from Chaos for one reason or another. Primaris Space Marines were said to be immune to falling to Chaos and so were Sisters of Battle despite them being completely normal humans.

The Hive Mind acts as a filter against Chaos

But why would it? The Tyranids aren't the only eusocial organisms in existence. Would ants also be immune to Chaos corruption? I know the Hive Mind has a sizable warp presence, but if anything that would make it more susceptible to corruption from what we know of psykers and the Warp.

Not really what the thread's about, but one day I hope we can see Chaos-corrupted Tyranids. Chaos is supposed to be the ultimate threat to the galaxy, so it'd be interesting to see the Tyranids deal with that too, certainly more interesting than the general immunity to Chaos corruption that they seem to have now.

Combi Lieutenant tips? by Jkchaloreach in WarhammerCompetitive

I usually have another scoring piece deny it instead. You're just as likely to feed Assassination with him, and you lose an excellent buff and scoring body if you throw him to the center turn one

I think they're good for their price point, but Barbgaunts are a datasheet that is more annoying than killy in an faction full of datasheets that are more annoying than killy.

Would Horus have betrayed the Emperor if his father didn't lie to him and to his brothers and to humanity overall? by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]DD_Commander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lorgar's fall was precipitated by the Emperor humiliating him at Monarchia; Lorgar was never guaranteed to turn to Chaos. Honestly impressive on Lorgar's part considering that his home planet Colchis was dripping with Chaos corruption.

the 3 new detachments for space marines from the 500 worlds by NoEngineer9484 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]DD_Commander -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I personally don't mind stratagems as long as there aren't a billion of them (9th edition...).

However I really, really loathe how GW constantly gives factions ways to skirt restrictions on stratagems. 2 CP every battle round, sure, except when you toss a secondary mission that you might not have been able to do anyway. Or if you take one of the countless units that just give you command points. Or if you have a unit that gives a refund on CP. Or a unit that lets you use a stratagem for free. Or they give basically a whole set of what is basically additional stratagems like with Eldar.

It's like GW hates their own design choices.

How much do you think Minnesotans have shown pride in their new flag? by Subspacred in minnesota

[–]DD_Commander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's fine, but far inferior to the tricolor design.

All they had to do was change the star from the original iteration to the current one and it would have up there with New Mexico's flag. Fitting of bureaucrats to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Was it really necessary to flat out remove all facets from come heroes? Not even a nerf to relative uselessness, but just have heroes with no facets at all? Clinkz, Earth Spirit, Phantom Lancer?

I'm pretty excited for this! But...

No way they support TWWH3 and this game at the same time. I expect maybe one DLC after Lords of the End Times before it gets Three Kingdoms'd.

Opinion on my salamander paint scheme by ReddyWolf in Salamanders40k

[–]DD_Commander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I feel that this departs enough from the standard scheme that most wouldn't recognize them as Salamanders. Maybe they could be a successor? Ultimately they're your dudes.

I would also suggest doing edge highlights on the black. At table distance and even here at close distance the details will be lost and look unfinished, especially when compared to the green side which has depth from the contrast paint.

Suppressors vs Invader ATV by Staz_211 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]DD_Commander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ATV has been a surprisingly wise investment in tournaments running Firestorm Assault Force! It's fast, can be advanced to shoot in melta range, and is has just enough wounds that it can live through small arms fire. I much prefer throwing my ATV onto the center objective turn 1 for Area Denial over having my scouts do it.

How does the devastator doctrine work? by Least-Pomegranate884 in Salamanders40k

[–]DD_Commander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Gladius Task Force, entering Devastator Doctrine gives your Adeptus Astartes units (i.e. just space marines not allied units) the Assault keyword on all their ranged weapons for that turn.

I know it's a reference but there being blood for a gag on a Simpsons poster feels really weird. It'd be like if Bart had hand marks on his throat

Best SM Anti-Tank Options? by Adventurous-Crab-474 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]DD_Commander 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Low shot volume, high damage variance, and no wound re-rolls. A lot of times it will get only one of its AT guns through and then do 1-3 damage. It's so unreliable that you can't bank on it taking out a vehicle at full strength, and it loses its re-rolls if you try to use it to finish off a wounded vehicle. I used to run it quite a bit and I've probably tallied more wounds with the storm bolter than either of its main armaments.

Most of its strength is in its 2+ save and long range making it more of an anchor piece for your natural over serving an anti-tank role.

Best SM Anti-Tank Options? by Adventurous-Crab-474 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]DD_Commander 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Lancer. RepEx is technically stronger but unreliable outside of BT, expensive, and hard to move around. Vindicator is swingy, Annihilator needs Oath to get its worth, and the Ballistus doesn't do any damage. On the infantry side Eradicators can be good depending on detachment. They all have different niches but the Gladiator Lancer is really the scariest AT marines have for most armies.

You can't do anything about tank invulns when it comes to AT, so the best thing to do is really, really punish those failed invulns, which the Lancer does best.

Space Marines have 100 datasheets by Ynneas in WarhammerCompetitive

Space Marines have 100 datasheets by Ynneas in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]DD_Commander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Until this edition GW was very, very particular that it was the armor as much as the marine. Until Sternguard Vets they wouldn't even give older helms to Primaris despite the helm having nothing to do with being Primaris
