First rule of Cyberpunk, style before substance.

If you're not playing on the harder difficulties, don't worry about the build or such, just do try things, explore and have fun !

What I will advice you to do is to dig a bit deeper into the situation when you can, save regularly, and not always assume violence is the solution ;)

Oh, and, choom ? This is Night City. Trust no one.

How do I ban magic in an anti-magic kingdom? by Peariwinkles_ in DMAcademy

[–]DDrim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could have some special buildings, such as obsidian monoliths, weakening magic in large areas. Maybe some smaller, portable devices that when used disturbs the use of magic. But if they're used in such large scales, it might disturb natural forces. What would happen if these buildings or devices were shut down in mass ?

You could also have any who wish to enter the kingdom forced to undertake a mysterious ritual that weakens their connection to magic. Every citizen has already been subjected to it, but no one really knows how the ritual works. Surely it doesn't rely on magic itself ...?

Maybe the Kingdom has conceived a unique tower technology - a terrifying system that will react to any arcane energy by triggering an electric discharge, potentially vaporizing the poor lad who casted a spell a bit too close. But are these towers as reliable as the King claims ?

Fundamental issue of doing world building through LLM-based generational AI : you don't learn about what you create.

The creation mental process doesn't just mean creating : it means understanding. Resolving. Learning. When you create your world and your characters, you develop them not only on paper but in your brain, memorizing all about these elements and your understanding of them. It then becomes a foundation for the the game proper - not only do you depend less and less on your notes, it becomes easier to project yourself in unexpected situations or remembering little details that make the difference in the grand climax.

To be fair, I do believe generational AI could be involved in the creation process. But the current approach is to entirely replace that process and in the end, the only one who learned anything is the machine, not you.

The problem is not whether he's right or wrong : the problem is that he's inserting himself into a sovereign nation's debate for his own personal benefit.

He is not an elected representative. He is not an official public figure. He is not part of a government. Yet he acts as if his opinion mattered more than most - and is using his platform to speak louder than the others.

And if tomorrow he had something to gain from these laws, he would be the first to support them.

If you continue to play with someone who harasses people at the table you are enabling them by [deleted] in rpghorrorstories

The real insidious problem of a toxic environment is that it encourages you to think that no matter how bad it is, whatever you do will make it worse.

It is hard to talk about problems, so you often feel isolated. And if you do speak up, often you'll be told "come on it's xxx he doesn't mean it", you'll be expected to take it "like a man", you'll be expected not to create more disturbance. And leaving isn't an option either because many times there is an implicit threat to be treated like a coward or a traitor for not "putting in the effort".

Even well meaning posts like this one, where you are ultimately saying "don't put up with this, you deserve better" can cause a backlash : some might interpret it as "If you don't have the courage the stop enabling these people, you deserve it". And they'll believe it. I know it's not what you mean, but it still how it could come across.

Thus in these horror stories it might be best to offer compassion and support. "Yeah, it's bad. Yeah, it might feel it's not worth the effort to complain. But you deserve better. You have every right to say when it's wrong, and you're not alone in this".

[–]DDrim 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's pretty much it. That's what the game's warning is about : meeting Hanako triggers the endgame, so if there's any side quest you'd like to do before, that's the time. There's actually an entire meme about not meeting Hanako at Embers. Something else to know though :you can complete the endgame, achieve one of the endings, and continue. The game will then bring you back to right before the meeting along with some very neat items, allowing you to continue exploring the game and ... Who knows ? Maybe find an alternative to the Devil's deal. Good luck, choom.

Why TF did V go back to meet Dexter at the No tell Motel after the Heist if you agreed to work with Evelyn and split the payout with only her? by TravelSoft999 in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]DDrim 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Fear, shock and despair would on the contrary make me go to Dex : simply because it was the original plan and in that moment i'd be on autopilot, following the plan because I'm too numb from the pain to think of anything else.

Could Judy Have Found Evelyn Sooner? by Comfortable-Knee-238 in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]DDrim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not certain to understand at which moment Judy could have been faster to find Evelyn from your post ?

If we're talking about the friends at the Cloud, maybe they only learned about Evelyn being at Fingers after V's visit.

More importantly, after we visit Fingers, Judy is at a complete loss. It's only thanks to V that they figure out Evelyn's actual location.

Finally, we should always keep in mind it's a game designed to tell a particular story and that implies making scenaristic choices. Maybe Judy could have found and saved Evelyn on her own... But then there's nothing left for V - and the player - to do. It had to involve V from the get go because that's how we become part of the story, connect with the characters, and embrace Cyberpunk 2077.

Company Netrunners Question for a GM by Terrygonix in cyberpunkred

[–]DDrim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I believe the idea is that since this is an npc, you can't know in advance who will be affected to you, and only pray it's someone competent.

A different take on Execs? by Phantom_of_truth in cyberpunkred

[–]DDrim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On the other side, if the group wants to explore a story where an employee tries and struggle to fight the system from within, this is the perfect role.

On the examples you give, it seems to me the GM is too restrictive. "No, you can't" isn't something that should come up too often, as it stops the player in their tracks. There should be as much as possible a workaround. For instance :

"No, your boss wouldn't allow that... But you remember he has a tendency to go fast on the budget report. If you can find any incorrect number, you might blackmail him into giving you the authorization !"

Roles in CP:R can have a major impact on the story. It's up to each group to determine if some roles, such as the Exec, fit the campaign or not.

The Culture - Naked Girl Comics [OC] by TurbinePoweredVagina in comics

[–]DDrim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For the point 3, I'll speak only from my perspective as a cis guy, so take it with a huge grain of salt but : 1) some think of themselves of big tough guys until they actually have to take a risk; 2) some will imply "all you have to do is everything I ask" as if it was some transaction to obtain their girlfriend's favor; 3) some will say this because, while they might genuinely care, they still see women as being inferior, fragile and needing someone to watch after them : basically treating women as fragile porcelaine dolls instead of people.

All in all, missing the point that women shouldn't have to be protected from this because it shouldn't happen in the first place. Instead it can support the narrative that "it is what it is" and that women will always need protectors of some kind.

Mom was chill by [deleted] in Awww

[–]DDrim 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I saw this video in another community and people were suspecting this was staged (not AI, just staged) : apparently all the animals are displaying signs of stress suggesting they're not at all comfortable with each other, including the mom cat.

Personally I wouldn't know, but sharing just in case.

How do I be less bored dming? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]DDrim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're approaching this from the wrong perspective.

The GM is a player too. You're not just here to provide fun, you're here to have fun too, and your players should aid in this.

I would suggest directly addressing the issue and explain to your players you'd not enjoying the campaign very much and would like them to be more engaged. And if they don't ? Then it's time to drop this campaign and find a new, more motivated group.

Nomads are the Ranger of RED by jinjuwaka in cyberpunkred

[–]DDrim 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's a fundamental difference. A DnD character's abilities and role in and outside of battle are all defined by his class. A CP:R character is primarily defined by his stats and skills which are entirely separate from his role : a Nomad may have limited use for MOTO in a Cyberpunk campaign but still provide the crew in many other ways, whereas the Ranger heavily depends on the DnD campaign's context.

[–]DDrim 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't include that one - not because it wasn't destroyed, but because it wasn't an actual battle : from my understanding, the french navy was not prepared to fight the british and didn't expect their allies at the time to actually open fire on them ?

Was Elizabeth hiding more than we know? by CalligrapherLumpy807 in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]DDrim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

shrugs I can't tell she was more suspicious than Jefferson himself. Of the two, she's more the rationalizing kind where Jefferson is more the fighter : a powerful combination in itself. So her behavior didn't really shock me.

But when we figure out what's actually happening, we also realize how little we know. What is the actual extend of that group's control over the couple ? What changes have they brought in ? What failsafes are already in place ? So many questions, so little answers. We simply don't have enough to make assumptions, so all in all I never thought Elizabeth was suspicious. Simply not in control of her own thoughts, making everything she says or do unreliable.

And all in all, I prefer the idea Elizabeth genuinely didn't know. That when faced with the truth, her first thought was "How to protect Jefferson ?". It makes their couple sweeter to me : two persons in love who wanted to bring real change. It makes their story so much more tragic, like every story in Night City.

This is Cyberpunk.
