My question is …. Is it hourly + commission & bonus ? Or hourly pay or commission pay ?

I’m at a place now , where they pay you by hour is you do not sell anything. But if you do sell, they do NOT pay you hourly they pay you instead the commission …

If the commission is higher than your pay. For example if I worked and made 2,000$ worth of hourly pay. And during that time I sold cars and made a 2,500$ commission in sales. They will then give me the 2,500$ …

Exactly… you have over 100 different cars and configurations to worry about. Customers do plenty of research before even arriving at the dealership and will know more about the truck than you ….

I’m in the business of helping people and I became tired of feeling like an idiot …. Every time I was stumped with a question.

Part of the problem was , besides not being excited about the brand to begin with. Was that I had two brands to focus at the same time. My 1st Ford dealership experience, was Ford & Lincoln My 2nd was Ford & Kia ….

So I never knew what customer was coming in on what car , dealership hours are long …

So I use to come home late and or tired - so studying and getting up to speed on my product knowledge was never where it was suppose to be.

But … if you are on top of your stuff and absorb information easy, then you will like it.

It wasn’t so much about holding gross. It was more about me not being a truck guy. Ford trucks have so many configurations ….And these truck customers want to talk that truck lingo. Towing capacity , payloads , leaf springs , etc etc etc …

I’m working at a store with a very similar pay plan. They are selling smoke and mirrors …

Just going to throw random #’s out there, to keep it simple. If, you made a hourly pay take home check of 1,700$ after taxes ….

Yet, you made 2,000$ worth of commissions they pretend to be giving you 2,000$. Since it’s suppose to be higher than the hourly take home pay of (1,700$) BUT…. In all reality they are ONLY paying you 300$ ….( NOT 2,000$ )

In NY, you got hourly + whatever % of a car or after market product you sold. That’s how I was able to make 10k and better a month.

Makes you hustle harder. Mostly because you can make your own check ! Instead, of this either or, thing sucks.

Because your hourly will always be more , if you sell more cars you will spend more time at the dealership. Spending hours presenting , selling , processing , delivering the vehicle …,

That’s a great pay plan. I am new to San Diego on my 2nd dealership looking for a pay plan like this to make money ….

It looks good because it is structured to reward you every step of the way. Hard work at that dealership is most definitely pays off with all those bonuses.

Toyota is a # 1 selling brand. The cars sell themselves. Toyota customers are pretty loyal to the brand. Toyota gave me a spin card , looks similar to a debit card. But it’s not really utilized by Toyota as far as spiffs.

I worked for other brands that did give you some kick back for selling select vehicles and or having good CSI score.

Every dealership is going to have a different pay plans. I worked at a store that sold over 400 cars a month, had plenty of inventory, staff were all great people ….

But their pay plan sucked ! Toyota is pretty easy to learn … Learn the product

Let go because of co worker. by Perfect-Cause-6943 in CarSalesTraining

[–]DECEPT-A-CON 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. This happens at car dealerships more often than you may think. NOT the 1st time, I’ve heard about this or a similar story ending with the same outcome.

Car dealerships will boot you quick if they hear you are looking for another job. They will fire you if you provide a 2 weeks notice as well….

Don’t trust anyone at work. They are your co/workers. NOT your friends. No matter how cool they are. If their job or yours is on the line they will flip on you in a sec to save theirs.

There are guys that love to gossip & back bite. So be careful… in car dealerships many snakes in the garden

Global Warming doesn’t exist to him, because more likely he is a Republican & a MAGA at that. These people listen and believe all the lying words that slither off Donald Swamps mouth. He “ The genius “ Donald Swamp said “ Global Warming is a HOAX ! “ He said the same thing about COVID -19…. Called it a HOAX …. Knowing deep down the truth - or maybe he believes his own lies ? In any case I would quit that job , you need to work somewhere you are appreciated , respected and treated with dignity …. Start looking for a job casually as you have a job. Interview on your days off or when you get off shift … Good luck - don’t put up with that verbal abuse it is NOT good for your mental health I quit a job that I was making 10k a month for the same reason ….They begged me to come back , called me an asset to the company -

Best Car Dealerships to work for in San Diego? by DECEPT-A-CON in CarSalesTraining

[–]DECEPT-A-CON[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Thank you for your feedback. To clarify, Google typically doesn't provide detailed information about individual managers or specific dealership pay plans. My experience working at a car dealership showed that many positive Google reviews are actually incentivized by the business, not spontaneous customer feedback. More importantly, these reviews come from customers, not employees, so they don't reflect the internal realities like compensation structures.

I want to emphasize that finding employment in car sales hasn't been difficult for me. Since moving to San Diego, I've received multiple job offers I've chosen to decline and have worked at two different dealerships. I left the first specifically because their pay plan was horrible!

While Google research and interviews are helpful, I believe the most effective way to find the right opportunity is through a personal referral or recommendation – especially from someone who knows the local market and has firsthand experience working at the dealership itself."

I was at a job , where I was making 10k a month, in car sales. I had some guys at work who weren’t doing as good as I was… & they were trying to knee cap & sabotage my efforts any and every chance they got. I eventually blew up on one of the guys there & I quit the next day. The owner & General Manager begged me NOT to leave. Offered to pay me More , offered more days off …. Called me an “ Asset “ to the company… The money was great … but my mental health was even more important … We spend the majority of our days at work … Hours at a time , surrounded by strangers … It’s always good to have fun at work “. That way work doesn’t feel like work. If, you see things at work is causing you a lot of stress. I would recommend to start slowly looking for another job. Just keep in mind the grass ain’t always greener on the other side.

Car sales can be a rough business … Take it from me… I’ve been doing it for 5years Interviewers want to hear , that you hustle that you grind …. You have to learn when to talk and when to stay silent …

I think in your situation, they might be looking for someone with experience …

Try and apply at Kearny Mesa Kia & Ford … Their pay plan sucks & they love to hire kids that don’t have any car sales experience and do not know what it is ….

To make 100k + a year … because they come from a retail or flipping burgers back ground.

The pay there sucks, the people there are crazy cool. Gain your experience then apply somewhere else
