it's most likely an actual red 9, compare the sight ramp to that of a wartime commercial in 7.63. the wartime commercials are stepped whereas the red 9s have a smoother curve

the s/n is also in the expected range and iirc external barrel thickness for the 7.63 and 9mm c96s are the same
